Cagliari is not only sea and pink flamingos but also historical monuments.
The ancient Amphitheatre of Cagliari is the most important of the historic buildings of Roman Sardinia. The builders, perhaps on several occasions between the first and second century AD, have done an incredible job carving the rock to form these bleachers. To help your imagination and take your mind back in time, I can tell you that the Roman Amphitheatre of Cagliari had a monumental facade well over 20 meters high and could hold up to 10,000 people to watch the fights between men and wild beasts, the execution of capital sentences and fights to the death between gladiators.
So what we see today in ruins was once an integral part of the city's life, both good and bad.
IT

Picturesque historical districts with sea views, elegant shopping streets and panoramic terraces, including the bastione di Santa Croce, a great place for a romantic evening after a fiery sunset. Cagliari is Sardinia’s main and most populous city, at the centre of an urban area that counts 430,000 inhabitants (150,000 of them in the capital city alone) as well as the island’s gateway port and main Mediterranean cruise liner hub. The city’s history goes back thousands of years, from pre-historic times to the reign of the Savoy.

Sardinia Best Kept Secret #travel #italy #sardinia
Sardinia Best Kept Secret #travel #italy #sardinia
Sardinia is a large island located in the Mediterranean Sea, off the western coast of Italy. It is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean after Sicily. Sardinia is an autonomous region of Italy, with its own distinctive culture, language (Sardinian), and traditions.
Here are some key facts and information about Sardinia:
Geography: Sardinia is known for its diverse landscape, which includes rugged mountains, pristine beaches, and rolling plains. The island's interior is characterized by the Gennargentu mountain range, with the highest peak being Punta La Marmora. Sardinia's coastline is renowned for its clear waters and picturesque coves.
History: Sardinia has a rich history that dates back to prehistoric times. It has been inhabited by various civilizations, including the Nuragic people, Phoenicians, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, and the Kingdom of Sardinia. It eventually became part of the Kingdom of Italy in the 19th century.
Culture and Language: Sardinia has a unique cultural heritage influenced by its history and geographical isolation. The Sardinian language is still spoken by some locals alongside Italian. The island is known for its traditional music, dance, and festivals, such as the Sagra del Redentore in Nuoro and the Cavalcata Sarda in Sassari.
Cuisine: Sardinian cuisine is distinct and features ingredients such as lamb, seafood, cheese (notably pecorino), and bread. Some popular dishes include porceddu (roast suckling pig), culurgiones (stuffed pasta), and pane carasau (crispy flatbread). The island is also known for its wines, particularly Cannonau, a red wine.
Tourism: Sardinia is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors with its stunning beaches, clear waters, and historical sites. The Costa Smeralda in the northeast is a well-known area frequented by celebrities and tourists alike. The island also offers opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, snorkeling, and windsurfing.
Nature Reserves: Sardinia is home to several protected natural areas, including national parks and marine reserves. The Asinara National Park, in the northwestern part of the island, is known for its pristine environment and wildlife, including the rare albino donkeys.
Transportation: Sardinia is connected to mainland Italy by ferry services and has several airports, including Cagliari-Elmas Airport, Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport, and Alghero-Fertilia Airport. The road network on the island is well-developed, making it relatively easy to explore by car.
Sardinia's natural beauty, cultural richness, and history make it a fascinating destination for travelers seeking a blend of history, outdoor activities, and Mediterranean charm.

Cagliari is the capital and biggest city of Sardinia. Before Sardinia became part of Italy, it was a separate kingdom with its own king. The island of Sardinia and the city of Cagliari itself have a very rich history.
So let's go for a walk in the city center of Cagliari and check out some tourist attractions - Piazza Yelle, Via Guiseppe Manno (one of the main shopping streets), Piazza Constituzione, the big terrace Terrazzo Umberto I and the Bastion of Santa Caterina, the old neighbourhood of Castello or Casteddu in the Sardinian language, the Cagliari Cathedral, Torre dell'Elefante or Tower of the Elephant.
I hope that this video will give you an idea about what to expect in this wonderful city!

Cagliari ♥️ My beautiful city ♥️
Cagliari is a city in Sardinia (Italy). The best period to visit it is May/June and September when the city is not very busy like in July and August.
it's for every kind of people, couple, friends, families, because as is a quite city but in the same time is even full of pubs or club on the beach, We had a famous beach only 10 minutes by car from the city center, where you can have a lunch or aperitif in front of the beaches in one of the chiochetto as We call them, basically a kind of cafe.
If you don't have a car don't worry buses work until 2am and you can catch them from Roma Street to go to Poetto Beach. From this Street is very easy moving as is in the heart of the city in front of the port, and buses go by every 10 minutes.
Even if You like Bike you can rent it from Sassari street or Sardegna street, there are also in the city center.
Cagliari is famous for churches, museums as well.
This city is in Italy, so is a must enjoy food a lot, even if You take some weight and you are a single woman doesn't matter, Italian men love it.
Enjoy Cagliari.

Places to see in ( Sardinia - Italy ) Oristano
Places to see in ( Sardinia - Italy ) Oristano
Oristano is an Italian city and comune, and capital of the Province of Oristano in the central-western part of the island of Sardinia. It is located on the northern part of the Campidano plain. It was established as the provincial capital on 16 July 1974. As of December 2010, the city had 32,165 inhabitants. The economy of Oristano is based mainly on services, agriculture, tourism and small industries.
Oristano was previously known by the Byzantines as Aristanis (in Byzantine Greek: Αριστάνις), and founded close to the ancient Phoenician settlement of Othoca (now Santa Giusta). It acquired importance in 1070, when, as a result of the frequent Saracen attacks, Archbishop Torcotorio made it the seat of the bishopric, which was previously in the nearby coastal town of Tharros. It also became the capital of the giudicato (judiciary, equivalent to a Duchy or Kingdom) of Arborea. Consequently, fortifications were designed, but the building thereof went on until judge Mariano II rose to power.
In medieval times Oristano vied for power over the whole island of Sardinia, and therefore waged wars against the other Sardinian kingdoms which culminated in the attempt to conquer the whole island during the reign (1347–75) of Mariano IV and that of his son Hugh III (1376–1383) and his daughter Eleanor (1383–1404). The giudicato of Arborea held out to be the last Sardinian kingdom (Giudicato) to cease to exist in 1420, about 10 years after the battle of Sanluri. It was transformed in Marchesato by the Aragonese and conquered, following a revolt by the last marquess Leonardo Alagon, by the Catalan troops of the Kingdom of Aragon, in 1478 after the battle of Macomer.
Thereafter, Oristano's history was that of the island of Sardinia, characterised by the Aragonese-Spanish (until 1708) and Piedmontese (from 1720) dominations, and then the unification of Italy. In April 1921, David Cova, Emilio Lussu, Camillo Bellieni and other Sardinian veterans of World War I founded in the city the Sardinian Action Party.
The Tower of St. Christophoros, otherwise known as Tower of Mariano II, was built in 1290, is 19 metres (62 ft) tall and the most striking remaining evidence of the old walls built at the time of the Giudicato, as it was one of the main gates thereof.
St. Mary's Cathedral (1130) was rebuilt during the reign of Mariano II after being destroyed in a siege. Of the original structure of Mariano, only parts of the apse and base of the campanile are left, as well as the Gothic Chapel of the Rimedio, which houses some medieval sculptures.
Oristano can be reached by train from Sardinia's ports of Olbia and Porto Torres, and the island's main cities Cagliari and Sassari. From Oristano all villages of the province can be reached by buses departing the bus station close to centrally-located Piazza Mannu. Moreover, a private concern provides a twice-daily bus service to and from Cagliari Elmas Airport. The journey takes approximately 2 hours.

Places to see in ( Cagliari - Italy )
Places to see in ( Cagliari - Italy )
Cagliari is the capital city of the Italian island of Sardinia. It’s known for the hilltop Castello, a medieval walled quarter situated high over the rest of the town. Architectural highlights include the 13th-century Cagliari Cathedral. Housed in a former arsenal, the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Cagliari displays bronze objects, Roman ceramics and artifacts from the Nuragic age to the Byzantine era.
An ancient city with a long history, Cagliari has seen the rule of several civilisations. Under the buildings of the modern city there is a continuous stratification attesting to human settlement over the course of some five thousand years, from the Neolithic to today. Historical sites include the prehistoric Domus de Janas, very damaged by cave activity, a large Carthaginian era necropolis, a Roman era amphitheatre, a Byzantine basilica, three Pisan-era towers and a strong system of fortification that made the town the core of Spanish Habsburg imperial power in the western Mediterranean Sea. Its natural resources have always been its sheltered harbour, the often powerfully fortified hill of Castel di Castro, the modern Casteddu, the salt from its lagoons, and, from the hinterland, wheat from the Campidano plain and silver and other ores from the Iglesiente mines.
Cagliari was the capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia from 1324 to 1848, when Turin became the formal capital of the kingdom (which in 1861 became the Kingdom of Italy). Today the city is a regional cultural, educational, political and artistic centre, known for its diverse Art Nouveau architecture and several monuments.
It is also Sardinia's economic and industrial hub, having one of the biggest ports in the Mediterranean Sea, an international airport, and the 106th highest income level in Italy (among 8,092 comuni), comparable to that of several northern Italian cities. It is also the seat of the University of Cagliari, founded in 1607, and of the Primate Roman Catholic archdiocese of Sardinia, since the 5th century AD.
Forget flying: the best way to arrive in Sardinia’s historic capital is by sea, the city rising in a helter-skelter of golden-hued palazzi, domes and facades up to the rocky centrepiece, Il Castello. Although Tunisia is closer than Rome, Cagliari is the most Italian of Sardinia’s cities. Vespas buzz down tree-fringed boulevards and locals hang out at busy cafes tucked under arcades in the seafront Marina district.
Like many Italian cities, Cagliari wears its history on its sleeve and everywhere you go you come across traces of its rich past: ancient Roman ruins, museums filled with prehistoric artefacts, centuries-old churches and elegant palazzi. Edging east of town brings you to Poetto beach, the hub of summer life with its limpid blue waters and upbeat party scene.
Considerable remains of the ancient city of Karalis are still visible, including those of the Tuvixeddu necropolis, the Roman amphitheatre, traditionally called Is centu scalas (One hundred steps), and of an aqueduct used to provide generally scarce water. Still visible are also some ancient cisterns of vast extent, the ruins of a small circular temple, and numerous sepulchres on a hill outside the modern town that appear to have formed the necropolis of the ancient city. The amphitheatre stages open-air operas and concerts during the summer.
The Palaeo-Christian Basilica of San Saturnino, dedicated to a martyr killed under Diocletian's reign, Saturninus of Cagliari, patron saint of the city, was built in the 5th century. The old medieval town (called Castello in Italian, Casteddu de susu in Sardinian, the upper castle) lies on top of a hill with a view of the Gulf of Cagliari (also known as Angels' Gulf). Most of its city walls are intact and include two early 14th-century white limestone towers, the Torre di San Pancrazio and the Torre dell'Elefante, typical examples of Pisan military architecture.
