Newcastle Transport (Keolis Downer) 46 Outbound (Wallsend-Glendale)

The 46 route runs between Wallsend and Stockland Glendale via Elermore Vale under the banner of Keolis Downer's Newcastle Transport, mostly through the western part of the old 226 route operated previously by State Transit Authority's Newcastle Buses & Ferries division.

The 46 route has one slight difference from the 226 in that it operates into Stockland Glendale via the new section of Glendale Drive as opposed to the 226 previously operating through Main Rd and Lake Rd (Crossroads Subaru) to Stockland Drive.

This trip was operated by a Volvo B7 Euro 5 with Volgren CR228 bodywork and interior. It is a 23## or 24## class ST reg'd bus.

The route truly is a waste, this section of the old 226 was the least frequented and most 226's ended at Wallsend (where the 46 starts), as you can see from the trip, a grand total of zero (0) passengers used the service. The area was most likely continued to be serviced in some way shape or form so that passengers were not adversely impacted by a total loss of service to either Wallsend or Glendale and making the new powers that be or Transport for NSW look completely heartless (or stupid).

Newcastle Buses 222 Inbound (Wallsend-Newcastle East) Part 2

The 222 used to run between Wallsend and Newcastle East (Nobby's) via Elermore Vale, John Hunter Hospital, Lambton, Broadmeadow and Hamilton. Mostly under the banner of State Transit Authority's Newcastle Buses & Ferries division.

This particular trip had a diversion in Elermore Vale due to some road works and was operated by a Volvo B12B Euro 5 with Custom Coaches Evo II body and interior. It was a 49## class bus that previously operated out of Sydney Buses Ryde depot, hence the 'Y' run plate on the front lower left.

The route has now become a shell of its former self, the privatisation powers that be decided to cut the route in early 2018, keeping the western half of the route as the 42 loop service between Wallsend and John Hunter Hospital, city folk be damned.
