안녕하세요. 히든코리아입니다. 오늘은 철의 도시 포항의 멋진 야경을 여러분께 소개합니다. 2014년 1월 준공된 포항운하는 포항시 송도동과 죽도1동 사이에 있는 동빈대교와 형산강을 남북으로 잇는 1.3km의 물길로, 바닷길과 연계하여 총 길이 8~10km의 운하를 형성합니다. 옛 물길과 생태환경의 복원을 통해 시민들의 휴식공간이자 포항의 새로운 관광명소가 되었습니다. 포항운하는 인공적으로 낸 물길이 아닌 국가 발전에 모든 역량을 쏟아붓던 1960년대 말 매립되었던 기존의 물길을 복원하여 만들어졌다는 점에서 그 의미가 큽니다. 도심 사이로 흐르는 물길을 따라 크루즈를 타고 낭만적인 정취를 즐길 수 있으며, 물길을 따라 여유롭게 걷기에도 안성맞춤인 곳입니다. 특히, 물길의 끝에서 만나는 포항제철의 야경은 철의 도시 포항을 대표하는 아름다움으로 자리잡고 있습니다.
Hi. This is Hidden Korea. Today, I would like to introduce you to the wonderful night view of Pohang (home to Korea's largest steel company, POSCO), the city of iron. The Pohang Canal, completed in January 2014, is a 1.3 km long waterway connecting Dongbin inner harbor and the Hyeongsan River from north to south. Through the restoration of the old waterway and ecological environment, it has become a resting place for citizens and a new tourist attraction in Pohang. The Pohang Canal is significant in that it was created by restoring an existing waterway that was reclaimed in the late 1960s, when all of its capabilities were devoted to national development, not an artificial waterway. You can enjoy a romantic atmosphere on a cruise along the waterway flowing through the city center, and it is the perfect place to take a leisurely stroll along the waterway. In particular, the night view of POSCO, which meets at the end of the waterway, is the beauty representing Pohang, the city of iron.

In this video, we took a trip to the Saugus Iron Works National Historical Site in Saugus Massachusetts. After being lost for hundreds of years, an archaeological dig successfully found the remains of this historic site. A reconstruction was built on the location using some of the original materials and artifacts, and is open seasonally and free to the public. Definitely check it out when you're on the north shore of Massachusetts!

Following Hiraizumi, ‘Hashino iron mining and smelting site’ is designated as the 2nd World Heritage Site in Iwate prefecture. Here’s a congratulatory message from Hiraizumi Town Mayor. Congratulation on the registration of Hashino iron mining and smelting site. Kamaishi citizens and related people’s passion like a blast furnace made the registration come true. I would like to offer my sincere congratulation to you all, and also would like tourists who come to Hiraizumi to visit Hashino as well by all means. Thank you very much.
8 areas and 23 assets including Hashino iron mining and smelting site were designated as World Heritage Sites named ‘Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining’ on July 5th, 2015. The operating period of Hashino iron mining and smelting site was from 1858 to 1894 and it had 1,000 of employees and produced 930 tons of molten pig iron per year at its peak. It is said to have been the largest ironworks. Under the supervision of Oshima Takato, a retainer of the Morioka domain, the operation has started with the initial test furnace. Then, the first blast furnace and the second one were constructed. The initial test furnace was repaired and used as the third furnace.
Hashino iron mining and smelting site is composed of three remains such as ‘Iron Ore Mine Site’, ‘Transportation Aisle’ and ‘Blast Furnace Sites’, but only remains of the blast furnaces are open to the public. The sites are the iron-making places where iron ore was pulverized and melted. Mr. Miura who is the staff of Kamaishi Kanko Bussan Kyokai guides the sites for everybody to easily understand what has been done there. He is stationed at Information Center and takes tourists to the site as a local guide. Hashino iron mining and smelting site built and underpinned Japan’s industrial era. Why don’t you visit there?

Ancient Iron Smelter - Kafue - Zambia
Kaingu Safari Lodge offers cultural tours of the local village. People who live in this area were originally hunter gathers but are now not able to provide for their families by hunting wild animals as this is poaching. Tourism provides a welcome opportunity to earn money in a different way. The reconstruction of the ancient iron smelter is part of the tour and is available to any of the guests at lodges in the Kafue for a $5 fee that goes straight to the community via a trust.
