More information about Germany´s cultural destination no. 1:
Bautzen is a historic town in the eastern German state of Saxony, near the border with Poland. Known for its beautifully preserved medieval architecture, Bautzen is one of Saxony's hidden gems, with a unique blend of German and Sorbian cultures. The town is famous for its stunning old town, defensive towers, and vibrant local traditions.
Key Highlights of Bautzen, Germany: 1. Historic Old Town: Bautzen’s Old Town is picturesque and filled with narrow, cobbled streets, colorful facades, and Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque buildings. It’s one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Germany. Landmarks include the St. Peter's Cathedral (one of the few shared by both Catholic and Protestant congregations) and St. Michael's Church, which offer excellent views of the city. 2. Defensive Towers: Bautzen is known as the “City of Towers” for its many historic defensive towers, which were built as part of the city’s fortifications. Reichenturm is one of the most famous and is sometimes called the “leaning tower” of Bautzen, as it tilts slightly like Pisa's. The Mühltor (Mill Gate) and Lauenturm are also notable towers that reflect the town's medieval charm. 3. Ortenburg Castle: This castle, perched on a rocky hill overlooking the Spree River, is one of the oldest parts of Bautzen and has a history dating back to the 10th century. Ortenburg Castle has served various functions over the centuries, from defense to an administrative center. The Sorbian Museum is housed within the castle, highlighting the rich history and culture of the Sorbian people, an ethnic minority with Slavic roots who have lived in the region for centuries. 4. Sorbian Culture: Bautzen is a cultural center for the Sorbian people, an indigenous Slavic minority in Germany. Sorbian culture is deeply woven into the town’s identity, with Sorbian-language street signs, festivals, and traditions, making Bautzen a culturally unique destination. The Sorbian Museum provides insight into Sorbian language, traditions, art, and history, while events like Easter egg painting and Sorbian processions celebrate their unique customs. 5. Spree River and Natural Beauty: The Spree River winds through Bautzen, enhancing the town’s scenic beauty. The river gorge near the town center provides hiking trails, stunning viewpoints, and areas to relax and enjoy nature. Bautzen Reservoir just outside the town offers recreational activities like swimming, boating, and fishing, making it a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike. 6. Bautzen Memorial: Bautzen Memorial is a former prison that served as a Soviet and later East German prison during and after World War II. It’s now a memorial and museum, dedicated to those who suffered political persecution, and offers a stark insight into the region's recent history. 7. Local Festivals and Events: Bautzen hosts several unique annual events, many of which celebrate Sorbian and German traditions. The Easter Processions, featuring men on horseback in traditional dress, are especially popular. The Bautzen Summer Festival and the Old Town Festival are also widely attended, featuring music, food, and cultural activities that bring the historic town to life. 8. Culinary Specialties: Bautzen is known for Bautz’ner Senf (Bautzen mustard), a popular condiment throughout Germany. You’ll find a variety of mustards in local shops, ranging from mild to very spicy. Traditional Saxon and Sorbian dishes are available in local restaurants, such as Potzsch and Ratskeller Bautzen, featuring hearty soups, sausages, and delicious pastries. 9. Architecture and Art: In addition to the towers, Bautzen is home to beautiful half-timbered buildings, elaborate facades, and historic bridges. The town is also dotted with statues and art installations, which add to its charm and provide insight into local history and folklore. Visiting Bautzen: Bautzen’s medieval charm, cultural significance, and natural beauty make it an ideal destination for travelers interested in history and unique cultural experiences. The town’s close-knit size makes it easy to explore by foot, allowing visitors to enjoy the ambiance, sights, and local flavors at a leisurely pace.

Discovering Bautzen Germany 🇩🇪: A Virtual Walking Tour
#offbeatdestination #bautzen #germany #travelvlog
We are again in the eastern German state of Saxony - in Bautzen.
The city has a blend of architectural styles, with Gothic towers alongside Renaissance buildings. Both German and Sorbian languages are spoken in Bautzen due to the presence of the Sorbian minority. This bilingualism adds an interesting cultural touch, visible in street signs and local traditions.
Bautzen has witnessed numerous events in its history, evident in its historic walls and fortifications. The town also has several green spots, with the Spree river flowing through, though it faces ecological issues like some urban rivers. Ancient walls stand near modern cafes and art pieces which we will see on this walking tour through this city. _______________ offbeatdestination europe travel walk walking videowalk 4k uhd city street life offbeat destination streetwalk walking tour virtual tour virtual walk world travel walking trip ultra hd 4k resolution relaxing video ambience bautzen germany deutschland bautzen germany bautzen germany walking tour germany walking tour dresden walking tour 4k walking tour walking tour 4k saxony germany walking tour pirna 4k walking tour dresden virtual walking tour germany city tour 4k walk in autumn germany city walk in autumn germany city walk in germany town walk in germany 4k city walk in germany germany travel germany city tour Budysin Reichenturm und Reichenstraße Tourist Attraction (Building Function) Tourism (Interest) Bautzener Rathaus Alte Wasserkunst Tourist Destination Spree (River) Michaeliskirche Dom St. Petri Ortenburg Saxony Sachsen Wondern Ortenburg visit germany discover germany beautiful germany germany 4k bautzen vlog nazi bautzen bautzen guide visit bautzen saxony germany move to germany life in germany trip to bautzen bautzen tourism cologne germany bautzen gestapo bautzen memorial marmaris turkey marmaris turkey 2024

Görlitz is the easternmost city in Germany, the county seat of the Görlitz district and the largest city in Upper Lusatia. The city is located on the Lusatian Neisse, which has formed the border with Poland there since 1945. The part of the city east of the Neisse was created when the border was drawn in separated in the years after the Second World War and has since formed the independent Polish town of Zgorzelec.
Görlitz was almost completely spared from destruction during the Second World War. The historic old town is very well known. A special feature of the city is that all essential phases of the Central European settlement development were preserved and legible without major structural changes. With over 4,000 mostly restored cultural and architectural monuments, Görlitz is often referred to as the largest contiguous monument area in Germany. The inner city image is characterized by late Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque bourgeois houses in the old town as well as extensive Wilhelminian-style quarters around the old town. Because of this special cityscape, Görlitz is also a sought-after film location, which earned the city the nickname Görliwood. (Taken from wiki)
Wysokość wieży, 28 metrów a średnica 4 metry. Ostatniego dnia II wojny światowej - 7 maja 1945 r. - wiadukt padł ofiarą wycofujących się oddziałów Wehrmachtu. W listopadzie 1945 roku pociągi mogły ponownie przejeżdżać przez tymczasowo naprawiony wiadukt. 5:10 Kamień milowy Polsko-Saksońskiej Poczty w Löbau W okresie panowania dynastii Wettynów w Polsce dużą wagę przywiązywano do funkcjonowania komunikacji pomiędzy Warszawą a Dreznem. Dla usprawnienia przesyłania, z rozkazu króla Polski i elektora saskiego, Augusta II Mocnego (Fryderyka Augusta I), powołano pocztę polsko-saską. Z tego czasu pochodzi ten słup milowy z polskim Orłem i litewską Pogonią w Löbau. 5:31 Kościół św. Mikołaja (Nikolaikirche) z XIII wieku Kościół parafialny św. Mikołaja jest jednym z najstarszych kościołów w Löbau. Pierwsza dokumentalna wzmianka pochodzi z 20 grudnia 1293 r. Była to wówczas prawdopodobnie romańska budowla halowa z cofniętym chórem. Pod koniec XIII wieku wybudowano wczesnogotycki prostokątny chór i przedłużono kryptę. W latach 1884/1885 kościół stracił cenne wnętrze. Między innymi zaginęły galerie ozdobione pięcioma kolumnami. 6:04 Ratusz w Löbau Ratusz w Löbau z późnogotycką wieżą z XV w. i barokowo-klasycystyczną fasadą.
