We visited the gorgeous towns of Echuca/Moama recently. If you are a nature/bird lover, this is definitely a place to put on your list. We were lucky enough to be there during the Moama Lights Festival, which added a magical touch to our trip. Peaceful nature and great food, what more could you want?!

In the 1860s to the early 1900's, Echuca was a bustling port with paddlesteamers ferrying people and goods all through the the Murray, Darling and Murrumbidgee River systems.
Accommodation :
By the early 1970's, the port was derelict and unused. The council of the day decided that its paddlesteamer heritage was unique and started restoration of the port.
Today the paddlesteamers are making a comeback. Many old sunken boats are being repaired to their former glory.
Kevin Hutchinson is a Shipwright who has played a large role in the paddlesteamer revival.
Echuca is a great example of how rural towns can use their heritage to establish tourism.
Places We Go - Murray River | Subaru Australia
The twin towns of Echuca in Victoria, and Moama in New South Wales, are just a two and a half hour journey from Melbourne, and they straddle each side of the Murray River, separated only by a busy bridge. Underneath, the river acts as the state border and is famous as an aquatic playground, with paddle steamers, anglers, power boats, water skiers, canoeists and houseboats all gravitating towards this wide stretch of beautiful water flanked by Aussie bush.
