Maribor, Slovenia in 4K Ultra HD
Maribor is the second-largest city in Slovenia and the largest city of the traditional region of Lower Styria. It is also the seat of the City Municipality of Maribor, the seat of the Drava statistical region and the Eastern Slovenia region. Maribor is also the economic, administrative, educational, and cultural center of eastern Slovenia.
Maribor was first mentioned as a castle in 1164, as a settlement in 1209, and as a city in 1254. Like most Slovene ethnic territory, Maribor was under Habsburg rule until 1918, when Rudolf Maister and his men secured the city for the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs, which then joined the Kingdom of Serbia to form the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. In 1991 Maribor became part of independent Slovenia.
Maribor, along with the Portuguese city of Guimarães, was selected the European Capital of Culture for 2012.

Driving Through Koper - Dashcam view of seaside town in Slovenia
Koper is the fifth largest city in Slovenia. Located in the Istrian region in southwestern part of the country, approximately five kilometres (3.1 miles) south of the border with Italy and 20 kilometres (12 miles) from Trieste, Koper is the largest coastal city in the country. It is bordered by the satellite towns of Izola and Ankaran. With a unique ecology and biodiversity, it is considered an important natural resource. The city's Port of Koper is the major contributor to the economy of the Municipality of Koper. With only one percent of Slovenia having a coastline, the influence that the Port of Koper also has on tourism was a factor in Ankaran deciding to leave the municipality in a referendum in 2011 to establish its own. The city is a destination for a number of Mediterranean cruising lines. Koper is the main urban centre of the Slovenian Istria, with a population of about 25,000.

Laško is a spa town in eastern Slovenia. It is the seat of the Municipality of Laško. The area is part of the traditional region of Styria. The municipality is now included in the Savinja Statistical Region. The town is located at the foothills of Hum Hill on the Savinja River. It was first mentioned in written documents dating to 1227 and was granted town privileges in 1927. It is known to have been settled since the Iron Age and Roman archaeological finds are common in the area, though the precise location of the Roman settlement is not known. Today the town is best known for its annual Festival of Beer & Flowers (Pivo - Cvetje) and the local Laško Brewery, the largest brewery in the country.

Ep35 Slovenia Beauty & Flooddamage Dravograd & Meza river
I had the idea to see Slovenia when leaving the Netherlands. So after a Austria I did enter Slovenia on the 14th of August. 10 Days after the flood disaster had struck parts of Slovenia and Austria.
I stayed in the town of Dravograd and would follow the river Meza to do the panorama route near Solcava.
For me it was fine to go since my camper is build to be off-grid so I dont need campings etc. Only supermarkets & water and a road. Those are always there even after a disaster. The roads would sometimes be a problem, but were repaired with loads of heavy equipment and manpower.
There was still a lot of beauty to see but also a lot of distruction.
Just happy that I was not here the 4th of August..... Heard people were scared in their houses.
It should be no suprise that hiking trail were not top of the list to repair so loads of them were not passable (blocked by fallen trees and landslides).

Il secondo episodio di un viaggio in bicicletta dell'estate 2021, partito da Gemona del Friuli e proseguito sulla ciclovia Alpe Adria, fino al Passo del Tarvisio, per poi proseguire verso la valle della Sava in Slovenia, al Lago di Bled, a Lubiana e oltre. Da Lubiana mi sono trasferito a Maribor in treno e ho iniziato a percorrere la ciclovia della drava a ritroso, verso l'Austria. Tra forti piogge e sole ho attraversato Dravograd, Lavamund e poi ho continuato verso Villach, per arrivare a Spittal an der Drau.

We are Sabina and Matija, and we love nature and hiking in the mountains. We are currently hiking the Slovenian mountains.
This time our niece Nadja joined us. She hiked Mount Košenjak with us.
Truth be told, I didn’t have high expectations from this hike. However, the route surprised me a lot, a very nice trail, suitable for a family adventure.

Ljubljana is Slovenia's largest city, and a good home base to explore the Julian Alps, Lake Bled, and the coast of this small (but beautiful) country. It's very close to the borders to Italy and Croatia.
