Did you know the best historical city in the North of the Netherlands? The Netherlands, or Holland, is known for Amsterdam with its canals, art and rich history. And also Rotterdam, the modern port city and all its architecture! But there is much more of course, like Friesland for instance. In the Golden Age, the capital city of Leeuwarden in the North of the country, was a glorious fortified keep. A walk around the city center will take you back to that time, the seventeenth century, and even medieval dungeons and castles. We visit an old prison that kept enemies of the state during the World Wars, but now has cultural clubs and a library. You can still see the streets charming market that dates from the Renaissance period and there is a leaning tower that's been standing proudly for over five hundred years. We see the Blokhuispoort, Oldehove, de Waag, Jacobijnerkerk and much more. To top it all off, we sleep in the best hotel of the province Friesland. Enjoy it with us!
Our trip to the Netherlands is the first time we are back home after 1,5 years of traveling all over the world. Before this you saw the big journey through Africa. It was the end of a trip that started on Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the Canary Islands. As we were headed to our overnight stay in Dordrecht, our journey was marked by numerous veld fires and road works, but fortunately neither caused any significant delays. Upon entering the town, the sight of an exquisite old sandstone church welcomed us, setting the tone for a fascinating and picturesque experience. As we took a leisurely drive down the main road, our excitement grew as we marvelled at the abundance of historic buildings. We drove down a back road which led us to the surprising discovery of the old jail, with roots dating back to 1885, leaving us in awe of its historical significance. CHASING SNOW ACROSS THE EASTERN CAPE | Hogsback Snow | VLOG 05 with Acacia & Michael
From the Wild coast of the Transkei to SNOW in only a few hours. We were up in Coffee bay when we heard that there was potential snow a few hours down in a small village called Hogsback. We immediately packed our bags and headed on an adventure. We entered Hogsback through the back mountains as the sun was setting. The first morning we woke to a chill in the air but no snow. We took a hike through the beautiful Hogsback forests up to a lookout called The Edge. (Join us for more hikes here ....😂
We woke up early the next morning to even colder conditions and our first sighting of snow on the car ! We quickly got as warm as possible and headed up the mountains to find the thickest snow possible. It was an absolute winter wonderland ! The landscapes were coated in soft white snow. We spent the rest of the day hiking, driving and playing in the snow !
