The Ilocos Region is the first region located in northwestern Luzon. It is comprised of two major provinces: Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur. There’s no right answer on which one to visit first, the goal is to visit both! You’ll enjoy Laoag in the north, famously dubbed as the Sunshine City, or to the south in Vigan where you will be taken back to the Spanish colonization era in the Philippines. Whether you want to go on a history or nature trip, Ilocos will leave you craving for more every time you visit.
See and Do In Ilocos Norte, we have Laoag, the capital of Ilocos Norte. One of the most notable destinations here is the two-story mansion that was the former holiday home of late President Marcos and his family. It is now a museum, where visitors are free to explore and check out almost every nook and cranny of the house. When you’re done, you can head for Paoay and find tranquility by the lake, go to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Paoay Church, or ride a 4x4 and slide down the sand dunes. If you have more time, you can take a visit to the Batac museum and view the memorabilia of the late President Marcos.
In Ilocos Sur, you’ll be delighted to step into the picturesque Vigan, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It feels like time traveling to the past, as the Spanish-era houses have been well-preserved over the years. While walking in the streets, don’t forget to grab delicacies that are unique to the town such as Vigan longganisa and Ilocos empanada.
Where to Stay Ilocos is a popular tourist spot and therefore has a lot of establishments for visitors. Whether you pick north or south, you’ll be able to see hotel options that will suit your budget and taste.
Ilocos Norte (Ilocano: Amianan nga Ilocos; Probinsia ti Ilocos Norte) is a province of the Philippines located in the Ilocos Region. Its capital is Laoag City, located in the northwest corner of Luzón Island, bordering Cagayan and Apayao to the east, and Abra to the southeast, and Ilocos Sur to the southwest. Ilocos Norte faces the West Philippine Sea to the west and the Luzon Strait to the north. Ilocos Norte is noted for being the birthplace of the former President Ferdinand E. Marcos.

#1. The Sinking Bell Tower, If Pisa's leaning tower is famous in Italy, Laoag City has its own version: the Sinking Bell Tower. This structure, which stands in the centre of the city, is one of the country's tallest bell towers. It is currently 45 meters tall. The tower is known as a sinking tower because it is extremely hefty and was constructed on sand. As a result of the poor foundation and its weight, it began to sink into the ground at a rate of one inch each year.
#2. Lapaz Sand Dunes, Have you ever wanted to explore the Sahara Desert in Africa or the deserts of the Middle East? Simply visit the Lapaz Sand Dunes, a unique geological dessert setting found exclusively in Ilocos Norte. The combination of the wind, sea, and river formed these sand dunes, which range in height from 10 to 30 meters.
#3. Cape Bojeador .The lighthouse at Cape Bojeador is the Philippines' highest elevated lighthouse, still operational and preserved in its original construction from the Spanish colonial time.
#4. Malacañang of the North, In Ilocos Norte, Malacaang of the North was erected as the late President Marcos' official house. It is a two-story structure situated near the fabled Paoay Lake. Bedrooms, a dining room, a kitchen, an office, a large ballroom on the second level, and even an Olympic-sized swimming pool are all included in the property.
#5.Paoay Church, Paoay Church is an Ilocandia national property and a UNESCO world heritage site. The Augustinian friars constructed it in 1896 with coral bricks, as evidenced by its huge walls. Furthermore, being a perfect example of a Baroque church, it offers a gorgeous perspective that is evocative of the Spanish era, with elements such as massive and spectacular buttresses on the sides and back of the structure.
#6. The Patapat Viaduct is a 30 meter above sea level elevated road. The municipality of Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte is home to this 1.3-kilometer-long seaside bridge. This popular street runs over the coastal areas of Pagudpud, connecting the Maharlika Highway in Laoag to the Cagayan Valley.
#7.Marcos Museum and Mausoleum, The Marcos Museum and Mausoleum is in Batac City, Ilocos Norte, about 30 minutes from Laoag City. The museum is easily accessible because it is located near the bridge where all public buses stop.
#8. SAUD BEACH - THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BEACH IN ASIA
Saud Beach, with its famed excellent fine white sand, is Pagudpud's crown jewel. The South China Sea's waters are always a brilliant blue and perfectly clear. This is surrounded by iridescent fish and stunning multi-colored corals.
#9. Bangui Windmills in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte. The Bangui Windmills are a long line of 70m-high wind turbines lined up over a 9km stretch of the Bangui Bay shoreline. The turbines, which stand tall over the black sand beach, make up the country's first wind farm, generating enough electricity to meet 40% of Ilocos Norte's power needs.
#10. Kapurpurawan Rock Formation Burgos, Ilocos Norte, is home to the Kapurpurawan Rock Formation. You'll have to travel down a lengthy and winding (and dirty) road to get there from the national highway. Because there is no public transportation in the area, having a car would be quite useful. You'd have to stroll in the burning heat of the sun otherwise. The name comes from the formation's usually white appearance. The term puraw signifies white in Ilocano.

DINGRAS JOSEFA LLANES ESCODA MUSEUM FERDINAND MARCOS DINGRAS ILOCOS NORTE TOURIST DESTINATION
osefa Llanes Escoda Museum Josefa Llanes Escoda, also known as the Florence Nightingale of the Philippines, is a war heroine, great civic leader and social worker. In front of Dingras Town Hall beside Balay Dingras is the more significant tribute to Doña Josefa Llanes Escoda. Built in a lot donated by Municipality of Dingras, the Museum was inaugurated during the centennial birthday celebration of Doña Josefa Llanes Escoda on September 20, 1998. What is Josefa Llanes Escoda known for? Escoda, who was a suffragist, amplified the political voices of all Filipinas. In 1923, she served as the executive secretary of the National Federation of Women's Clubs (NFWC). In this position, Escoda fought for women's involvement in the Philippine government soon after suffrage. Her forward-thinking, feminist ideals understood the power women possessed with their new civic identity. Josefa Madamba Llanes Escoda (September 20, 1898 – January 6, 1945) was a Filipino civic leader, social worker, World War II heroine, and suffragette. Resting place Unmarked grave in either La Loma Cemetery or Manila Chinese Cemetery, Manila, Philippines Escoda's educational background in teaching from the University of the Philippines fueled her commitment to child and maternal health. After training with the Boy Scouts in the US, Escoda returned home to develop Girl Scout leaders. She founded the Girls Scouts of the Philippines and was the first group’s executive director. Additionally, she studied social work in New York and returned home to serve her county again. Eventually, Escoda became the president of the NFWC from 1941-1944.
Moved by her country's conditions during World War II and called to action by the Bataan Death March, Escoda served the Prisoners of War and civilian internees. She covertly provided personal and medical supplies to hostages in various camps, even after her husband's capture. After years of dangerous work, the Japanese military ultimately arrested Escoda. Imprisoned in Fort Santiago, Escoda died by execution.
Escoda's activism never relented. The Philippines honors Escoda with her image on the 1000 Philippine peso. She is one of two women featured on the currency. More valuable than money, Escoda’s legacy is emblazoned on the advancement of Filipinas, the field of social work, and the Philippines. Christine Morales
