Exploring Wiltshire - from Swindon to Devizes (4K 3840x2160 60fps)
Driving in Wiltshire, from Swindon to Devizes. On the way passing North Wroughton, Wroughton, Elcombe, Berwick Bassett, Winterbourne Monkton, Avebury, Beckhampton.

Wiltshire is a county in South West England with an area of 3,485 km². It is landlocked and borders the counties of Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire. The county town was originally Wilton, after which the county is named, but Wiltshire Council is now based in the county town of Trowbridge. Within the county's boundary are two unitary authority areas, Wiltshire and Swindon, governed respectively by Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council.
Swindon is a large town in the ceremonial county of Wiltshire, South West England, between Bristol, 35 miles (56 kilometres) to the west, and Reading, the same distance to the east; the town is 71 miles (114 km) west of London. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 182,441. The Town Development Act 1952 led to a major increase in its population.
Swindon railway station is on the line from London Paddington to Bristol. Swindon Borough Council is a unitary authority, independent of Wiltshire Council since 1997. Residents of Swindon are known as Swindonians. Swindon is home to the Bodleian Library's book depository,[3] the English Heritage National Monument Record Centre, the headquarters of the National Trust, on the site of the former Great Western Railway works, and the Nationwide Building Society, and a Honda car manufacturing plant, which is due to close in 2021.
Devizes is a market town and civil parish in the centre of Wiltshire, England. It developed around Devizes Castle, an 11th-century Norman castle, and received a charter in 1141 permitting regular markets, which are held weekly in an open market place. The castle was besieged during the Anarchy, a 12th-century civil war between Stephen of England and Empress Matilda, and again during the English Civil War when the Cavaliers lifted the siege during the Battle of Roundway Down. Devizes remained under Royalist control until 1645, when Oliver Cromwell attacked and forced the Royalists to surrender. The castle was destroyed in 1648 on the orders of Parliament, and today little remains of it.

@divyankhoda captured the beauty of the Canary Wharf 🤩✨
💡The origins behind the name 'Canary Wharf' come from the quay where vegetables and fruits from the Canary Islands were unloaded. In 1981 Michael Heseltine, Secretary of State for the Environment under Margret Thatcher, had set up the 'London Docklands Development Corporation' to regenerate the Docklands area.

10 Most Hated Towns in England
What are the most hated towns in England? No matter how good a country is, every part of it can’t be loved equally. In fact, some parts of it are bound to be hated. Even the most fanatic lover of a country will love some parts of it less than others. I have heard some people complaining about some towns in England, the home of the Queen that some people are dying to live and work in. That prompts research into the 10 most hated towns in England.
This ranking is based mainly on the comments and complaints of residents of England and visitors to those towns. But it’s not limited to that since some complaints can be completely baseless. We dig deeper in researching these 10 most hated towns in England.
10. Slough
Let’s begin with Slough, a town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire. This town is 20 miles west of central London and 19 miles northeast of Reading. You will find the town in the Thames Valley and within the London metropolis around the area at the intersection of the M4.
In spite of its location, Slough according to those visitors, is a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets or empty beer cans. This assertion hasn’t been contradicted by even just one resident. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can get away with.
9. Scunthorpe
It’s not desirable to find Scunthorpe among the most hated towns in England. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to take it out of our list because the facts obviously place it there. This industrial town in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire should normally be the pride of Lincolnshire as its main administrative center. But the town with an estimated population of 82,334 in 2016 had many things going against it.
Residents of the UK’s largest steel processing center, also known as the Industrial Garden Town, are frustrated by a lack of the liveliness and diversity in the town only known for work. However, the loudest grouse that lists Scunthorpe alongside the most hated towns in England is the indiscriminate censorship and blocking of websites for spurious reasons.

The Wessex Ridgeway: Devizes to West Lavington 30 August 2016
A walk along the 10 mile section of the Wessex Ridgeway long distance footpath between Devizes and West Lavington in Wiltshire via the villages of Stert and Urchfont. Some glorious views from the high ridges. Also, some pleasant views along the towpath of the Kennet and Avon canal which the Wessex Ridgeway uses to leave Devizes. The walk took place in warm, sunny weather on Tuesday 30 August 2016. A reminder that this is the Wessex Ridgeway NOT the Ridgeway National Trail.
Devizes Market
Some pals and I made a special trip to Devizes Market to but really fresh meat and veg. Even though the weather was pretty foul it doesn't show too much on the video. Devizes is in the middle of Wiltshire and quite a busy town for a rural county. Enjoy!
Devises Wiltshire England 2018
DEVIZES WILTSHIRE ENGLAND July 19, 2018. The old market town of Devizes is an easy bus trip from Swindon through lovely countryside. Many quaint old shops to visit including the Shambles Market
Also visit the Kennet & Avon Canal is just a few yards from the Market Square. Turn right for the Wharf area or turn left and walk along the canal to the Caen Hill Locks.
Day 3 On The GREAT WEST WAY Road Trip - Devizes Wiltshire To Berkshire
Good beer, good food and snow, so the UK grinds to a halt.
Our Journey on #TheGreatWestWay continues and on Day 3 we start at the Wadworth Brewery in Devizes, Wiltshire. Taking a tour of this local brewery including a look at the Wadworth draft horses who still have a job pulling the dray delivery beer around the street of Devizes today.
Watch the full Great West Way trip:
Then a drive through the beautiful countryside of Wiltshire for lunch at The Three Tuns in Great Bedwyn not far from the town of Marlborough. Where we chatted with the chef-proprietor James Wilse.
To work off the lunch it was time to walk the North Wessex Downs but as you can see it was getting cold. The views over the Downs are beautiful and you can walk to many ancient hill forts or to the White Horse carved on the hillside.
Finally, it was along the Great West Way from Wiltshire into the county of Berkshire where we were staying at The Royal Oak pub in Yattendon. It was good to get into the warn pub!
Unfortunately, our last day was cut short by the snowy weather. The snow made the villages and countryside look beautiful although driving was a bit dodgy.
So if you are visiting Britain and want to see the real England outside of London then a tour along the Great West Way is definitely worth the time. #VisitBritain #VisitWiltshire

Devizes Historic Market Town Wiltshire.
Devizes is a market town and civil parish in the centre of Wiltshire, England. It developed around Devizes Castle, an 11th-century Norman castle, and received a charter in 1141 permitting regular markets, which are held weekly in an open market place. The castle was besieged during the Anarchy, a 12th-century civil war between Stephen of England and Empress Matilda, and again during the English Civil War when the Cavaliers (Royalists) lifted the siege during the Battle of Roundway Down. Devizes remained under Royalist control until 1645, when Oliver Cromwell attacked and forced the Royalists to surrender. The castle was destroyed in 1648 on the orders of Parliament, and today little remains of it.
From the 16th century Devizes became known for its textiles, and by the early 18th century it held the largest corn market in the West Country, constructing the Corn Exchange in 1857. In the 18th century, brewing, curing of tobacco, and snuff-making were established. The Wadworth Brewery was founded in the town in 1875.
Standing at the west edge of the Vale of Pewsey, the town is about 10.5 miles (16.9km) southeast of Chippenham and 11 miles (18km) east-north-east of the county town of Trowbridge. It has nearly five hundred listed buildings, some notable churches, a town hall and a green in the centre of the town.

The Wiltshire Museum Devizes.
The Wiltshire Museum, formerly known as Wiltshire Heritage Museum and Devizes Museum, is a museum, archive and library and art gallery in Devizes, Wiltshire, England. The museum was established and is still run by, the Wiltshire Archaeological and Natural History Society (WANHS), a registered charity founded in 1853. After the purchase of an old grammar school the museum was opened in 1873. Subsequently, it expanded into two Georgian houses on either side and still occupies this location today.
The museum maintains a collection covering the archaeology, art, history and natural history of Wiltshire. This collection covers periods of history from as far back as the Palaeolithic and also includes Neolithic, Bronze Age, Roman, Saxon, Mediaeval and more recent historical artefacts. Among the prehistoric collections are items from the Stonehenge and Avebury World Heritage Site. Several of the collections have been designated as being a significant part of England’s cultural heritage.
One of the most important collections at the museum is the finds from Bush Barrow, an early Bronze Age burial mound in Stonehenge World Heritage Site. The barrow was excavated by William Cunnington in 1808 and produced the richest and most important finds from a Bronze Age grave in the Stonehenge Landscape to date. The finds were acquired by the museum in 1883 and were displayed there until 1922 when they were indefinitely loaned to the British Museum. After a controversial restoration of the largest piece that may not reflect its original finish, the pieces were returned to Devizes in 1985. They are on display in the Gold from the Time of Stonehenge exhibition, opened in 2013.
The natural history collection includes remains of a plesiosaur called Bathyspondylus found at Swindon in 1774. Bathyspondylus swindoniensis was first described in 1982 from the Museum's specimens.

Devizes is a lovely town in the County of Wiltshire England that has a wonderful historic heritage. We explore the town and discover its medieval past. Alongside the town is Caen Hill Canal Locks one of the longest flights of locks in Britain which make up part of The Kennet and Avon Canal. We had a great day watching all the canal boats and seeing how the locks work. There is so much life on the waterway, we hope you enjoy seeing it too.
