Parks in Decorah, Iowa | Phelps Park and Trout Run Trail
This park turned out to be a hike I was not expecting or wanting. The beginning of this location was so cool and I was hoping the further we went the more we saw but no it was just a normal hiking trail. This location would be beautiful in the fall though.
Phelps Park is 3hr 10min (202 mile) drive from Iowa's capital Des Moines.
It's a 20min (17 mile) drive from the Minnesota border.
This location is also 2hr 36min (150 mile) drive from downtown Saint Paul and a 2hr 52min (159 mile) drive from downtown Minneapolis.
Parks under 30 minutes from Phelps Park- Decorah Prairie (5min), Pulpit Rock (5min), Dunning's Springs (5min), Ice Cave Hill Park (8min), Palisades Park (10min), Old Stone Church (18min), Cold Water Spring State Preserve (25min), and Black Falls (26min)
The nearest place to eat is Culver's, Subway, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Pizza Ranch, Twin Springs Supper Club, Old Armory BBQ, and Mabe's Pizza.

Driftless. The magnificent UIR and the natural beauty of Decorah.
In this video we enter into a unique area of the upper midwest. An area untouched by glacial drift. The beautiful Driftless Area. Surrounded by the vibrant colors of autumn we'll kayak the spring fed, crystal clear waters of the UIR. With majestic eagles soaring overhead and the towering bluffs its an experience one will never forget. We'll explore the stunning parks of Decorah and the warmth of its community further enriched our experience. So come along with us as we Explore Eden.
We were told the UIR can be very busy on a summer weekend. That a kayak trip on the UIR during the summer months should be done on a weekday. We had the UIR to ourselves on a 60 degree day in mid October. An October visit for us was perfect.
