Many of the prime highlights are easily seen as part of the journey to or from Belgium's other major towns of Ghent and Bruges. Oostelijke Randweg De Lier & N465 De Lier - Naaldwijk (NL)
On October 7, 2021, the new Eastern Randweg at De Lier was officially opened. The Oostelijke Randweg is 1.3 kilometers long and connects the N223 at the Lierweg business park with the N222 at the Wollebrand recreation area (province of South Holland, municipality of Westland).
The southern partis completely new. Some greenhouses had to make way for this. New housing estates are now (2023) being built along this part of the ring road. The northern part uses existing roads (Kasteelweg and Lange Broekweg) and still contains a fairly steep bridge over the Zweth Canal.
Provincial road N465 is an extension of the Oostelijke Randweg. Until 2018, the N465 was part of the N222 (locally known as the Veilingroute). In 2018, the N222 was extended to Vlietpolderplein (the connection with the N213). Since then, the old part of the N222 has been known as the N465. The N465 is 1.9 kilometers long and ends when entering Naaldwijk.
The N465 is a road number that was previously used for the route Naaldwijk - Monster v.v. This road has been transferred to the municipality of Westland, as a result of which this road lost its road number.

Op 7 oktober 2021 is de nieuwe Oostelijke Randweg bij De Lier officiëel in gebruik genomen. De Oostelijke Randweg is 1,3 kilometer lang en verbindt de N223 bij bedrijventerrein Lierweg met de N222 bij recreatiegebied Wollebrand (provincie Zuid-Holland, gemeente Westland).
Het zuidelijke deel is volledig nieuw aangelegd. Enkele kassen moesten hiervoor wijken. Langs dit deel van de randweg worden nu (2023) nieuwbouwwijken aangelegd. Het noordelijke deel maakt gebruik van bestaande wegen (Kasteelweg en Lange Broekweg) en bevat nog een behoorlijk stijl bruggetje over het Zwethkanaal.
In het verlengde van de Oostelijke Randweg ligt de provinciale weg N465. De N465 was tot 2018 onderdeel van de N222 (lokaal bekend als de Veilingroute). In 2018 is de N222 verlengd tot aan het Vlietpolderplein (de aansluiting met de N213). Sinsdien gaat het oude deel van de N222 door het leven als N465. De N465 is 1,9 kilometer lang en eindigt bij het binnenrijden van Naaldwijk.
De N465 is een wegnummer dat eerder in gebruik was voor de route Naaldwijk - Monster v.v. Deze weg is overgedragen aan de gemeente Westland waardoor deze weg zijn wegnummer verloor.
N223 Delft - De Lier - Hoek van Holland (2020) (NL)
The N223 is a provincial road in the Dutch province of South Holland in the Westland region. The road connects the city of Delft with Hoek van Holland.
In 2018 I already posted a video of the N223 on YouTube. Then the last part of the route went through the built-up area of Hoek van Holland. In this new video, the last part of the route goes via the Hoeksebaan, which was completed in 2020.
De N223 is een provinciale weg in de Nederlandse provincie Zuid-Holland in de regio Westland. De weg verbindt de stad Delft met Hoek van Holland.

Lier is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Antwerp. The city is situated at the confluence of the Big and Small Nete. In the Middle Ages it was a prosperous city. The Grote Markt is flanked by ancient guild houses, an elegant town hall and a belfry.

I went on a work and vacation trip to Western Europe - Belgium (Ghent), France (Paris), and the Netherlands (Amsterdam).

Lier Zimmertower
It is not for nothing that Pallieterstad Lier was nicknamed 'Lierke Plezierke. In this city on the Nete, people like to party and have fun. One of the highlights is undoubtedly the annual fair in Lier. The Novemberfoor Lier 2022 took place from Thursday 3 November to Sunday 20 November. More than 60 attractions and food or drink stalls were spread over the Grote Markt, Zimmerplein and Gasthuisvest.
The Gothic belfry dating from 1369 is classified UNESCO World Heritage. The tower was the symbol of freedom and power. Nowadays it houses a small automatic carillon with 23 bells. no public access.
De Fortuin was probably built in the 17th century. It was used first as a grain store, then as a coal depot, lemonade factory, cabinetmaker’s workshop, town warehouse and restaurant.
The Prisoner’s Gate was built in 1375 as part of the town wall of the time. From the 16th century to 1930 the gate was used as a prison, hence the present name.
The Spui, the former lock house on the Nete, is the only remaining building of the second town wall (1508-1516).
ZIMMER TOWER AND MUSEUM Visit the Zimmer Tower and the exhibition on time and space in the pavilion. You will discover the life's work of Louis Zimmer, who was passionate about clocks and astronomy. Following a fascinating introduction to the big bang, you can admire the ingenious workings of the Wonder Clock, the Jubilee Clock and the Astronomical Studio. You can actually see the mechanism working inside the Zimmer Tower. The former Cornelius tower from the 13th century, part of the old city walls, was transformed into the Zimmer Tower in 1930. Zimmer donated the Jubilee Clock to the town of Lier in honour of Belgium's 100th anniversary. The pavilion was added in 1960, especially for the Wonder Clock. In this pavilion you will also find the exhibition on time and space, with a projection of the big bang.
Louis Zimmer (1888-1970) was a self-taught artist with the patience of an angel. He was an amateur astronomer who rose to the pinnacle of watchmaking.
For tourist information, you can visit the information office in the historic town hall on the Grand Place. Since 2017, Visit Lier has been based on the 1st floor of the former council chamber. The tourist information office of Visit Lier has various shelves and leaflet dispensers. There are also 3 digital modules where visitors can search information themselves using a touch screen: • about Lier • about the surrounding area • maps (walking and cycling routes) There is also a video screen with a bench in the entrance hall and a shop with publications and souvenirs. As a visitor, you can ask at the counter for more information and explanations. We are happy to assist you in Dutch, French, English, German, Spanish and Italian. The information office is accessible for wheelchair users There is a separate entrance at the rear with direct access to the lift. As such, visitors can quickly get from the ground floor to the first floor (information office). Visit Lier also has its own wheelchair available.
