This is why you NEED to visit Newcastle Upon Tyne | England's MOST Underrated City

Welcome to my vlog of Newcastle upon Tyne, I'm proud to be bringing you to my home! Join me as I explore some of the most iconic landmarks and hidden gems that this city has to offer.

We'll start by strolling along the iconic Quayside, with its famous bridges and scenic riverside views. Then, we'll walk through the charming streets of the city center, taking in the stunning Georgian and Victorian architecture, including the famous Grey Street and Grainger Town. As a season ticket holder of Newcastle United, I'll also give you a sneak peak of St James' Park on a match day, and a glimpse of what all us Geordies are passionate about. To finish off on our first day exploring, we'll also visit a few of the free museums such as the Discovery Museum, The Hancock Museum and the Laing Art Gallery.

Day 2 brings a lovely little surprise of snowfall, and we begin at Grey's Monument, this time working our way through Grainger Town, and passing the bustling Grainger Market, where you can find a wide array of local products and delicious food. A quick stop off at The Bigg Market, then we head towards the grand Central Station, then into a hidden gem, the Lit and Phil.

I'll then take you into St Nicholas' Cathedral, which I had never been in before, and then along to Newcastle's Castle Keep, which gave Newcastle its name.

As promised, finishing off with a lovely surprise, we'll be heading down into the dark with Victoria Tunnel Tours. I found exploring the Victoria Tunnel fascinating, and really enjoyed the stories and history alongside it.

It took a lot of planning, researching, and editing to finally get this video out, so I really hope you enjoyed it and it wasn't too boring. If you all enjoy this video, I may very well make a part 2, picking up on some stuff I missed out, but also including some other things to see and do which are slightly outside of the city.

Wynyard Hall Hotel, County Durham, England. (4K)

FROM THE BEGINNING
Following its initial lease by King Edward I to Sir Hugh de Chapell in 1230, several prominent families owned the Wynyard Estate over the decades. However, Wynyard Hall as we know it today was not completed until 1846.

In 1813, the previous estate had accumulated a considerable fortune earned through coal mining. It was then inherited by Frances Anne Vane Tempest. Her marriage in 1819 to Charles Stewart marked the beginning of the Londonderry connection with Wynyard.

Elevation to the title of 3rd Marquess required a grand house befitting their new status.

Designed by Philip Wyatt and Ignatius Bonomi, Wynyard Hall incorporates French and Italian marble, Spanish mahogany, stone from the family quarry, and exquisite stained glass. The elaborate interior design is a reflection of the extravagant style, popular during the reign of the French king, Louis XIV.

The magnificent hall and its surroundings provided the perfect setting for lavish entertainment, fit for only the most important and influential people in the land.

Generations of Londonderrys hosted everyone from royalty to writers and artists. Subsequent holders of the title, particularly the 5th, 6th, and 7th Marquesses, developed the estate further. Unfortunately, as the 20th century rolled on, crippling death duties and loss of mining income took its toll.

After inheriting the title in 1955 at the age of 18, the 9th Marquess found himself unable to maintain the Londonderry family seat. In 1987, he sold the Wynyard Estate to Sir John Hall. As a property developer and former owner of Newcastle United football club, Sir John immediately embarked on an £8.5m renovation programme, restoring the hall and parkland to its former glory.

In 2008, with a further £3.5 million investment, his daughter Allison turned Wynyard Hall into the exquisite, four-star country house hotel that it is now.

In 2011, Sir John commissioned a group of local historians to write a book about Wynyard Hall. “The History of a Great House” was published that same year.
Situated on 150 landscaped acres with Greek and Roman ruins, this grand country house hotel is 17.3 miles from the Durham Heritage Coast and 26.1 miles from North York Moors National Park.

The plush, individually styled rooms feature classic, elegant decor, plus flat-screens with satellite channels, DVD players and free Wi-Fi. Suites add lounge areas with sofabeds. There are also 3 cottages with full kitchens and separate bedrooms; 2 have outdoor hot tubs.

Guests have the option of English or continental breakfast; both are included. There's afternoon tea, a high-end restaurant and a brasserie, plus a spa, and meeting and event spaces.

Places to see in ( Newcastle upon Tyne - UK )

Places to see in ( Newcastle upon Tyne - UK )

Newcastle upon Tyne is a university city on the River Tyne in northeast England. With its twin city, Gateshead, it was a major shipbuilding and manufacturing hub during the Industrial Revolution and is now a centre of business, arts and sciences. Spanning the Tyne, modern Gateshead Millennium Bridge, noted for its unique tilting aperture, is a symbol of the 2 cities.

Newcastle upon Tyne commonly known as Newcastle, is a city in Tyne and Wear, North East England, 103 miles (166 km) south of Edinburgh and 277 miles (446 km) north of London on the northern bank of the River Tyne, 8.5 mi (13.7 km) from the North Sea. Newcastle is the most populous city in the North East, and forms the core of the Tyneside conurbation, the eighth most populous urban area in the United Kingdom. Newcastle is a member of the English Core Cities Group and is a member of the Eurocities network of European cities. Newcastle was part of the county of Northumberland until 1400, when it became a county of itself, a status it retained until becoming part of Tyne and Wear in 1974. The regional nickname and dialect for people from Newcastle and the surrounding area is Geordie. Newcastle also houses Newcastle University, a member of the Russell Group, as well as Northumbria University.

The city of Newcastle upon Tyne developed around the Roman settlement Pons Aelius and was named after the castle built in 1080 by Robert Curthose, William the Conqueror's eldest son. The city grew as an important centre for the wool trade in the 14th century, and later became a major coal mining area. The port developed in the 16th century and, along with the shipyards lower down the River Tyne, was amongst the world's largest shipbuilding and ship-repairing centres. Newcastle's economy includes corporate headquarters, learning, digital technology, retail, tourism and cultural centres, from which the city contributes £13 billion towards the United Kingdom's GVA. Among its icons are Newcastle United football club and the Tyne Bridge. Since 1981 the city has hosted the Great North Run, a half marathon which attracts over 57,000 runners each year.

Newcastle International Airport is located approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) from the city centre on the northern outskirts of the city near Ponteland . Newcastle railway station, also known as Newcastle Central Station, is a principal stop on the East Coast Main Line and Cross Country Route. Central Station is one of the busiest stations in Britain. The city is served by the Tyne and Wear Metro, a system of suburban and underground railways covering much of Tyne and Wear. Major roads in the area include the A1 (Gateshead Newcastle Western Bypass), stretching north to Edinburgh and south to London; the A19 heading south past Sunderland and Middlesbrough to York and Doncaster; the A69 heading west to Carlisle; the A696, which becomes the A68 heads past Newcastle Airport. Newcastle is accessible by several mostly traffic-free cycle routes that lead to the edges of the city centre. here are 3 main bus companies providing services in the city; Arriva North East, Go North East and Stagecoach North East.

Janet's Foss. Waterfall in England. Beautiful waterfall and pool

Janet’s Foss,The footpath from Malham starts from Malham Smithy, over the small clapper bridge behind the Smithy with Miresfield Farm B&B in front of you then turn right along the side of the beck, through a few fields and kissing gates and into the wood. The footpath follows Malham Beck and during summer you can smell the wild garlic in the wood, you may even pass a money tree!. Stop and admire the Foss, paddle or even swim or at least let the dog have a splash. The footpath then continues past the Foss onto the road and right towards the Tea Van and then through the campsite on to Gordale Scar

Stagecoach Newcastle 12 Full Route Visual- Wallsend to Two Ball Lonnen

Hey, here's a full route visual of the 12, which runs from Wallsend Interchange to Fenham, Two Ball Lonnen via Walkerville, Walker, St Anthony's, Byker, Byker Metro Station, Shieldfield, Manors, Newcastle City Centre, Blackett Street, St James' Park, Nuns Moor, CAV North (Newcastle General Hospital), and Hadrian Road.

The 12 runs every 10 minutes between Two Ball Lonnen and Walker, continuing to Wallsend every 20 minutes. It uses ADL Enviro 400s (both diesel and hybrid variants) from the Walkergate depot.

I really couldn't get my head round why all of the Stagecoach drivers don't turn round at the roundabout and pick passengers up from stop C in Wallsend Interchange as they're meant to... When I first went there I didn't know that they didn't turn around, so I just sat and watched a 40 & then a 12 completely avoid the side of the bus station I was waiting at. Thankfully, at 6:30 in the morning I only had 10 minutes to wait for the next 40, so I just crossed over and asked the driver if I could get on at the 'stand' and he said it was fine - then he also went the wrong way and missed out the stop the 40 is timetabled to stop at. I'd taken note of this by the time I returned to Wallsend to timelapse the 12, so I walked directly over to the bus that was parked outside the public toilets. I honestly don't know why the Stagecoach drivers do this, because it would be much shorter and not include any traffic lights, if they just turned around at the roundabout and go through the bus station. On the plus side, it did allow for the sight of the end of Hadrian's Wall (hence Wallsend's name) at: 0:12.

Thanks for watching! :)
