Cumbum or Kambam, is a town and municipality in Theni district in the western part of the Madurai Region Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It has many worship places, among them Sri. Kambaraya Perumal Kovil, Sri. Gowmariyamman Kovil, Sri. Nandha Gopal Samy Kovil, Mosques, three churches are situated for a prolong period. The town is well connected by the district roads with nearby urban and Rural Town and villages but not connected by Railways. Average maximum temperatures are 41.6 °C and 31.6 °C respectively. The average annual rainfall is around 836 mm with the town getting its share if rainfall during the Southwest Monsoon.

Cumbum Municipality (First Grade) is located in the Theni District of Tamil Nadu, near the Kerala State border. Theni District was established through the division of the former Madurai District, as stated in G.O.Ms.No.679 of the Revenue Department, dated 25.07.96. The first collector of Theni District was Dr. K. Satyagopal IAS. Until 31.12.96, Theni Municipal town served as a firka headquarters. Primarily a commercial town, Theni is renowned for its bustling weekly shandy held every Sunday. Meghamalai,(Tamil:மேகமலை) popularly called Highwavys Mountains, is a mountain range situated in the Western Ghats in Theni district, Tamil Nadu. It is dotted with cardamom plantations and tea estates. The place is situated at an elevation of 1,500 m above sea level and it is rich in flora and fauna. This area, now mostly planted with tea, includes Cloudlands, Highwavys, Venniar and Manalar estates, the access to which is now largely restricted. It still includes large untouched remnants of evergreen forest.
