Exploring Elliot's Mexican roots in HUAMANTLA, TLAXCALA | Pueblo Mágico 2021
Elliot finally got to visit the town where his great-grandfather is from. HUAMANTLA, TLAXCALA is a small city outside of PUEBLA just a few hours east of MEXICO CITY. It's famous for its August festivals, especially the running of the bulls. We saw the famous cathedral, La Parroquia de San Luis Obispo, near the zocalo, as well as ran into a queer art show in the cultural center. Our time in HUAMANTLA was short, but we'll definitely be back to dig deeper in this Pueblo Mágico.

PEUBLA is one of the most beautiful towns in MEXICO we've been to. The city is full of gorgeous churches, hand-pained tile, amazing food rooted in indigenous tradition, and tons of churches. We explored the art history of MEXICO and the region at the Amparo Museum, and toured the largest (by volume) pyramid in the world, The Great Pyramid of Cholula.

Tlaxcala is the smallest state in Mexico, located just north of the state of Puebla and east of Mexico City. Some even say it's not even a state! It is totally overshadowed by it's neighbours and in some ways, ignored! Until now...
Tlaxcala has a great history with Hernan Cortes and the Spanish. It has everything you expect from Mexico from outstanding churches such as the Basilica de Nuestra Senora de Ocotlan as well as one of the oldest cathedrals in Mexico, a bullring and stunning food.
Also in thet state of Tlaxcala, you can visit archeological sites, visit in firefly season, climb Mexico's MONSTER Mountain (Malinche) as well as visit countless museums.
Tlaxcala was just 'average' when I got there - I was influenced by people saying I shouldn't bother. They were wrong.
