Conegliano, Veneto - Italy: Things to Do - What, How and Why to visit it (4K)
If you are planning to visit Veneto region, in northern Italy, consider to visit the village of Conegliano, close to the Treviso Pre-Alps. Why? Because Conegliano is truly a fascinating place, medieval and off the beaten track, 45 minutes by car from Venice, where you can eat and drink typical Italian products.
Conegliano is a city of art and culture, immersed in a splendid area close to Venice and Alps.
I suggest you walk along via XX Settembre, up to Giovanni Battista square and, after admiring all the views you will encounter, visit the castle of Conegliano.
To taste a typical cheese, go for a meal at PER Bottega.

Valdobbiadene (source Wikipedia):
Valdobbiadene is an Italian town of 9,968 inhabitants in the province of Treviso in the Veneto region.
Valdobbiadene, nearby Conegliano and their hills are considered the cities of Prosecco di Conegliano-Valdobbiadene wine and, in particular, of the Superiore di Cartizze type.
Valdobbiadene is also included in the Città del Vino circuit and has been the seat of the National Sparkling Wine Exhibition for over forty years, now Forum Spumanti d'Italia.
The origin of the human settlement in the territory of today's Valdobbiadene dates back to around forty thousand years ago: in fact, numerous artifacts have been found which attest to a continuous human presence from the Mousterian age to the Bronze Age. Paolo Diacono, in his Historia Langobardorum mentions the birthplace of San Venanzio Fortunato calling it Duplavilis. From this (which probably indicated two ramifications of the Piave-Plavis) the current toponym should have derived which, in the past called Val di Dobiadene, indicated a bit the whole neighboring region. The first finds date back to prehistoric times and Roman times. Despite their scarcity, it seems fairly certain that this area was civilized, which was favored by the presence of important cities such as Asolo, Feltre and Belluno. Other testimonies in this regard can even be obtained from the toponyms themselves. To find documents that can be historically placed, we have to wait for the year 1116, when the Emperor Henry V, who arrived in Treviso to resolve the usual disputes of the city and rural communities, received the notable representatives of the territory in an extraordinary audience and defined borders permanent. The town was traversed by continuous struggles and, about forty years later, it was subject to Treviso until 1178, after which it was occupied by the Ezzelini family until 1260, when it returned under the jurisdiction of Treviso. Constantly traversed by struggles and depredations, around the middle of the 14th century it fell under Venetian domination: thus putting an end to feudalism and, while respecting the political power of the Serenissima, Valdobbiadene, divided into its fifteen rural communities (so-called Regole), obtains a semblance of autonomy with the self-government of the Merighi, men democratically elected within the heads of families. With the arrival of Napoleon and then, with the Austrian domination, the Regole disappear and the Communes arise, first three, then two: Valdobbiadene, San Pietro di Barbozza and Bigolino, which survives only a few years (later also San Pietro di Barbozza will be incorporated into the Municipality of Valdobbiadene). The nascent bourgeoisie made up of merchants, notaries, landowners who have acquired the lands of the Venetian nobility and who hold political power in their hands, embellish the square with palaces. During the First World War the territory was subjected to heavy bombings and was evacuated. In 1929 the territories of the suppressed municipality of San Pietro di Barbozza were aggregated to Valdobbiadene. In May 1945 a serious bloody event occurred, remembered as the Valdobbiadene massacre, the summary execution of about 50 prisoners of war by dissident factions and partisan deserters.
