Qui troverete panchine all'ombra ma nessuna fontanella, dovrete rivolgervi all'unico bar del piccolo paese.

Fourth day of walking, which began with a pharaonic breakfast at the Cigno hotel and ended by admiring the Roman remains of Concordia Sagittaria.
Crossed the bridge over the Tagliamento we are already in Veneto and after San Michele we meet again the Romea Strata, entering the cultivated fields.
Today's path also follows the waterways of the area and it will be these canals and rivers that dictate the direction and length of the journey, often forcing us to travel long stretches to advance a few hundred meters.
After San Michele we will meet only one other inhabited center, Giussago.
Here you will find benches in the shade but no fountain, you will have to go to the only bar in the small town.
Long stretches, sometimes unpaved, sometimes asphalted and sometimes tree-lined (which in the heat does not hurt me) will accompany us in complete tranquility towards Concordia Sagittaria, an ancient Roman city.

Places to see in ( Caorle - Italy )

Places to see in ( Caorle - Italy )

Caorle is a coastal town in the province of Venice, Veneto, Italy, located between the estuaries of the Livenza and Lemene rivers. It is situated on the Adriatic Sea between two other famous tourist towns, Eraclea and Bibione. The ancient name of the city was Caprulae (possibly because of the wild goats that grazed in this area, or in honour of pagan goddess Capris); Caorle was founded in the 1st century BC by Romans. Many archeological findings confirm this attribution, for instance the sacrificial altar called Ara Licovia (Licovian Altar, from the Roman Licovi family), today housed in the cathedral. A safe zone between the estuaries of the Livenza (Latin: Liquentia) and Lemene (Latin: Romantinum) rivers, Caorle gained importance when people from Concordia Sagittaria arrived as refugees during the Barbarian Invasions.

In that period was built a Paleo-Christian church, some remains of which are today kept in the cathedral's museum. In the 11th century was built the cathedral we see today, once the seat of a bishopric. During the following centuries, Caorle became one of the nine important cities of the Republic of Venice; evidence to that effect are the many Istrian flagstones which compose some monuments in the city, and also the ancient structure of the city with bridge and canals, like a little Venice. At the end of the Republic of Venice, with the Napoleonic invasions, Caorle went into decline; the last diocesan bishop of the diocese was moved in 1807 to Chioggia and the territory of the diocese was attached in 1818 to the Patriarchate of Venice

Since the beginning of the 20th century the territory around Caorle has been deeply modified. Most of the woods of the Selva Lupanica were cut to give room to fields for cultivation, rivers were embanked, and marshes were reclaimed. This brought a landscape of wide flat areas, with no trees even along the rivers course. Along the coast, interment and erosion constantly modify the scenery. The landscape is still rather wild, with changing sandbanks and the fishing valleys.

The Cathedral of St. Stephen was built in 1038, an example of Romanesque and of the Byzantine-Ravennate style. Its façade is simple; near the central door there are two bas-reliefs (St. Agatonicus on the left, St. William on the right); the interior is organized with a nave and two side aisles, divided by pillars and columns which support semi-circular arches, and it has a truss-beam roof.

The Church of Blessed Virgin of the Angel is built on a little promontory on the sea. In ancient times, the church had three naves, but the sea repeatedly destroyed one of them, so in the 18th century the church was rebuilt, with the structure that it has today. The legend says that one day a number of fishermen saw a light on the sea; when they approached it, they found a statue of the Virgin Mary with the Child, and they carried it ashore.

Caorle is a small city, but is frequented by tourists in all seasons. The old town centre is still structured as a little Venetian corner, with its coloured houses, its calli (alleys) and campielli (squares). During the summer many family-oriented activities take place on its long beach. Others are organized in its lagoon (an example of Venetian lagoon), where many characteristic traditional casoni (the huts where fishermen lived in the winter while fishing) still stand.

At the end of the Republic of Venice, with the Napoleonic invasions, Caorle went into decline; the last diocesan bishop of the diocese was moved in 1807 to Chioggia and the territory of the diocese was attached in 1818 to the Patriarchate of Venice.[4][5] No longer a residential bishopric, Caorle/Caprulae is today listed by the Catholic Church as a titular see.

Along the coast, sedimentation and erosion constantly modify the scenery.

Cathedral
Edit
The Cathedral of St. Stephen was built in 1038, an example of Romanesque and of the Byzantine-Ravennate style. Its façade is simple; near the central door there are two bas-reliefs (St. Agatonicus on the left, St. William on the right); the interior is organized with a nave and two side aisles, divided by pillars and columns which support semi-circular arches, and it has a truss-beam roof. It contains many masterpieces of the Venetian school of art, the most important of which is The Last Supper, painted by Gregorio Lazzarini (master of famous painter Tiepolo).

The landscape is still rather wild, with changing sandbanks and the fishing valleys.
Outside, the characteristic bell tower, dating to 1048, rises to a height of 48 meters. It is a typical example of Romanesque style, but it has a cylindrical structure, and it is surmounted by a cone-shaped cusp, that makes it unique in the world.

The cathedral owns a liturgical museum, inaugurated on September 13, 1975 by Patriarch Albino Luciani.

The bishop and the townspeople tried to carry the statue to the cathedral but it was very heavy; so the bishop called a group of children who, because of their innocence, succeeded in carrying it to the nearby church of Archangel Michael (for reason called the Virgin of the Angel).

Devotion to the Virgin of the sea is very important to the Caprulans; to her are dedicated two festivals.

PORTOFINO First Impressions / Walking Tour

This is a video about my first impressions of Portofino in Italy as well as a Portofino walking tour, answering your question of Is the Hype Really Worth It?
Portofino has been attracting tourists, artists and celebrities from all over the world and has grown in popularity over the years and this video is a first overview from someone who has never been but had high expectations.

Notes: I am aware there are more things to do in the area, this is a really basic walking tour to see what the place looks like, what vibe I get and if I'd come back - not a detailed guide.
The number for the parking I mentioned in the video is: +39 335 6842656. He actually ended up discounting the price by 30% for us as we only stayed for a few hours.
Da V Mare is the Da Vittorio restaurant chain and very pricey but SO delicious! I can safely recommend it.
Ideally I would have also visited the Cinque Terre by ferry, done one hike and maybe seen Castello Brown - so a weekend here is perfect but not more.
Also, I think this place largely comes alive when the sun is out and becomes a lot less attractive in bad weather so definitely check the forecast before you go.

If I had to compare it to another place in Italy, it would be Positano (which is bigger and with a beach but has the same charm) :

Here is one of my favourite places in Italy:

History and the archaeological museums - Oriental Venice, Italy

The historical origins of the Eastern Veneto region have its roots sunk deeply in prehistory. A large village dwelling of the late Bronze Age was discovered at San Gaetano di Caorle on the edge of the lagoon.Already in Roman times the port of Caorle offered shelter to ships that transported goods and foodstuffs for the colonies and the cities that one after another rose in the region and along the main roads: Altino, Opitergium, Julia Concordia, until arriving at the big and important Aquilea, capital of the Augustan Region X, Venetia et Histria.
A large cargo ship of impressive size, dating back to the second century BC, was discovered a few years ago off the coast of Caorle, with its cargo of amphorae still intact. The archaeological relics found in the deep waters of the sea are now available for visitors to see in a permanent exhibition TerredAcque, a wonderful journey into the history of the seaside town.
Through a guided tour you can learn about the evolution of the area from the early Christian period to the modern age.
Founded in the first century BC, at the crossroads between Via Annia and Via Postumia, Julia Concordia still offers significant Roman archaeological sites today, which can be visited throughout the town, thanks to the permanent exhibition inside the Town Hall and in particular near the cathedral where the remains of Trichora Martyrium are preserved, a small basilica with three circular apses and the Basilica Apostolorum. The most important artefacts unearthed at Concordia in the last century are now preserved in the National Museum of Concordia in Portogruaro.
You can admire three mosaic floors, the statue presumably of a noblewoman, marble friezes and sarcophagi from the vast number of burial-grounds in Julia Concordia.

Continuing into the upper room you can find bronze figurines from Roman times, glass, gemstones, amber ornaments, lamps and other daily used objects.Leaving the Museum and strolling through Portogruaro you can discover the wonderful palaces of the late medieval and Renaissance, the fresco painted porticos, the treasured palace which is the town hall.

Everything is a reminder of the most marvellous social and economic condition developed over a thousand years of the Venetian Republic in this city: the golden ages, in this region, where the main merchandise routes to Northern Europe and the East were developed.

Italien Caorle City (Italy) 4k Beach Walktour

Caorle: Scogliera Viva

Scogliera Viva
