Cloquet, Minnesota. walk

In this walk we look at Pinehurst Park, Wentworth Square, USG Interiors. Spafford Park Campground, Dunlap Island. Voyageur Statue, Fauley Park,
The only gas station designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright and now on the National Register of Historic Places. and much more.

History: The city, was the site of the 1918 Cloquet Fire, which destroyed much of the town and killed approximately 500 people.

Cloquet began as a group of small settlements around three sawmills: Shaw Town, Nelson Town, and Johnson Town. These became known as Knife Falls after a local waterfall over sharp slate rocks, and later as Cloquet.
Alabaster is primarily made out of gypsum, a soft mineral composed of calcium sulfate dihydrate. It forms through the evaporation of water from ancient sea beds, and is often found in quarries and mines around the world.

Amazing Hidden Gem! 🌈

Thomson Dam, also known as the Thomson Hydro Station[1] or Thomson Water Project,[6] is an embankment and concrete gravity dam on the Saint Louis River near the town of Thomson in northeastern Minnesota, United States. It consists of a 1600-foot (488 m) long primary structure and multiple supplementary dams which, together with precambrian rock outcrops known as the Thomson formation, impound the river to create Thomson Reservoir.

The tallest dam in the complex is 51.6 feet (16 m) and the longest is 3500 feet (1067 m). A series of gate houses, a canal, forebay, and underground penstocks supply a hydropower plant located 3 miles away in Jay Cooke State Park. With an installed capacity of 72 MW and an annual generation of approximately 280 GWh, the Thomson project is the largest hydroelectric facility in the state.[7]

Thomson Dam was completed in 1907 by Great Northern Power, an operating division of the Great Northern Railway. The generating station was expanded in 1914 with the addition of Unit 4.[1] Unit 5 was added in 1918 and Unit 6 in 1948. Railroad tracks built into the generator floor allowed for installation and maintenance of the equipment. The complex was later transferred to the Saint Louis Power Company. Today it is owned by Minnesota Power, a division of Allete, Inc.[8]

Heavy rains in June 2012 created an historic flood in the region which overtopped the dam, breached the forebay canal and severely damaged the hydroelectric station. Following $90 million in reconstruction and upgrades, including the addition of a new emergency spillway, the facility came back online in November, 2014. Additional upgrades will continue through 2018, including removal of the original 46kV transmission line equipment in favor of other, higher voltage equipment that was added later

Jay Cooke State Park located in Carlton Minnesota and the St. Louis River

Please, enjoy 38 seconds of the sunrise as your looking south down the St. Louis river.
Jay Cooke State Park is a state park in Minnesota, United States, protecting the lower reaches of the Saint Louis River. The park is located about 10 miles (16 km) southwest of Duluth and is one of the ten most visited state parks in Minnesota. The western half of the park contains part of a rocky, 13-mile (21 km) gorge. This was a major barrier to Native Americans and early Europeans traveling by canoe, which they bypassed with the challenging Grand Portage of the St. Louis River.[2] The river was a vital link connecting the Mississippi waterways to the west with the Great Lakes to the east.

Today Minnesota State Highway 210 runs through Jay Cooke State Park. The 9 miles (14 km) of the route between Carlton and Highway 23—which include the park—are designated the Rushing Rapids Parkway, a state scenic byway.[3]

The park is named for Pennsylvania financier Jay Cooke, who had developed a nearby power plant, which is still in use.[4] The Grand Portage trail and three districts of 1930s park structures are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Traveler's Guide to Enjoying Minnesota in 2018 (ADVICE YOU MUST KNOW)

My clients deserve the best and NYT, WSJ and Conde Nast have listed Minnesota as a top destination for world travelers for the past 2 years.
I had the pleasure of seeing this excitement over New Year's 2017-2018. It is absolutely true about what they say about Minnesotans, in such extreme cold weather you have to have a warm heart. Minnesotans are the most courteous and welcoming people I have ever met.

Let me just say, as a Travel Agency, if there are Minnesotans who don't have a Travel Agency arranging their travel...please consider Traveling-Guru (dennis.foutz@cruiseplanners.com); Every business wants gracious clients and Minnesota personifies everything great about human nature.

8 fantastic restaurants to explore:
- Spoon and Stable
- Restaurant Alma
- 112 Eatery
- Bachelor Farmer
- Corner Table
- Surly Brewers Table
- Travail Kitchen and Amusement
- Heyday

Staying in downtown Minneapolis, consider using the Skywalk to get around. Don't resist walking outside, though. There are secret restaurant spots known by locals who aren't afraid to adventure out into the chilly air.

Sports in Minneapolis are football, hockey, and baseball. Lots of love in Minnesota for their teams. I almost become bought a jersey...haha

Families can enjoy indoor activities at the Great Wolf Lodge (waterpark and lodge resort) and Mall of America (3-story mall with an indoor amusement park).

Minnesota Things-to-Do for my clients!
- Families: Minneapolis Institute of Art and Science Museum
- Art lovers: Minneapolis Sculpture Garden
- Ghost Hunters: Historic Congdon Estate
- Outdoor Adventurers: North Shore Scenic Drive (Lake Superior and Sawtooth Mountain)
- Ice Fishing!!

Minnesota State Parks Ep 4 | Jay Cooke State Park in Carlton

Fall is my favorite season and in this video, you can probably see why.
It's cooler, there are pretty leaves, mushrooms everywhere and the water is still flowing for long exposures. I just wish fall lasted longer.

Jay Cooke is a beautiful rustic State Park but the only main attraction is the bridge and rapids but there are beautiful trails. Next year Darius and I will be coming back to explore more of the State Park.

Jay Cooke is 1hr 59min (134 miles) from Saint Paul and 2hr 1min (136 miles) from Minneapolis.
