CHORLEY TOWN CENTRE Walking Tour 🇬🇧 England, UK

Walking around the town centre of Chorley. My Adventure Planet

Chorley is a town and the administrative centre of the wider borough of Chorley in Lancashire, England.

Chorley is 8.1 miles (13 km) north of Wigan, 10.8 miles (17 km) south west of Blackburn, 11 miles (18 km) north west of Bolton, 12 miles (19 km) south of Preston and 19.5 miles (31 km) north west of Manchester.

Chorley town centre is bisected by the A6 Roman road.

It is located near to junctions 6 and 8 of the M61 motorway and junction 27 of the M6; Charnock Richard services are sited within the borough.

The town's wealth came principally from the cotton industry.

In the 1970s, the skyline was dominated by factory chimneys, but most have now been demolished.

Remnants of the industrial past include Morrisons chimney and other mill buildings and the streets of terraced houses for mill workers.

Also, given its location on the edge of Lancashire Coalfield, Chorley was vital in coal mining.

The last pit in the area to close was the Ellerbeck Colliery in 1987 which was located south of Chorley, between Coppull and Adlington.

Chorley had a population of 33,424 at the 2001 census, with the wider borough of Chorley having a population of 101,991.

The town is the home of the Chorley cake. Every October, the Chorley Cake Street Fair promotes the cakes with a competition for local bakers to produce the largest ever Chorley cake.

Gawthorpe Hall & Grounds (Burnley, Lancashire,UK,)

Had a nice morning at Gawthorpe hall, it is owned by the National Trust and

we were slightly disappointed that we couldn't look round the house till 1pm
when they opened the doors, we arrived early so we looked round the grounds which were very nice but we didn't find one bench to sit on ! , we visit a lot of National Trust places and most have plenty of places to sit and take in the beauty, ( disappointing !)

Forest and Reservoir Tour in Rivington, Chorley, Lancashire, England | Dark Chill Mix

Tour of a forest and reservoir in Rivington. Magnificent tall trees surround the huge reservoir. My Adventure Planet

Rivington is a village and civil parish of the Borough of Chorley, Lancashire, England, occupying 2,538 acres (4.0 sq mi; 10.3 km2).

It is about 6 miles (9.7 km) southeast of Chorley and about 8+1⁄2 miles (13.7 km) northwest of Bolton.

Rivington is a rural area consisting primarily of agricultural grazing land, moorland, with hill summits including Rivington Pike and Winter Hill within the West Pennine Moors.

The area has a thriving tourist industry centred around reservoirs created to serve Liverpool in the Victorian era and Lever Park created as a public park by William Lever at the turn of the 20th century, with two converted barns, a replica of Liverpool Castle and open countryside.

Rivington and Blackrod High School is located here. Rivington and its village had a population of 109 at the 2011 Census.

Rivington was dramatically changed by the construction of the Rivington Reservoir Chain through the contentious 'Rivington Pike Scheme' originally to supply clean drinking water to the city of Liverpool, it is now primarily supplying 70,000 households in the Wigan area and can be used to supply Liverpool, Merseyside and Manchester.

To the east of Rivington is Rivington Pike and to the west, the flatter land of the Lancashire Plain.

Rivington is north of Horwich and Bolton and to the south of Anglezarke Moor and Yarrow Reservoir.

To the west of the village is the wide shallow valley containing the Anglezarke, Upper and Lower Rivington reservoirs.

The village is accessed from the west by a road on top of the 876-foot (267 m) long Horrobin Embankment, a dam that separates the Upper and Lower Rivington reservoirs.

The River Douglas has its source on Winter Hill and flows in a southwest direction forming part of the southern boundary.

The River Yarrow has its source on Anglezarke Moor and forms the northern boundary.

The area of the township is 2,768 acres (4.3 sq mi; 11 km2), the reservoirs and filter beds occupy 275 acres (111 ha).

A Walk Around The Lancashire Market Town

Pendle Sculpture Trail Walk from Barley in Lancashire - Full 4k Walk

*Walk Summary*
In this Pendle Sculpture Trail walk from Barley in Lancashire, we pass two picturesque reservoirs with views across to Pendle Hill, before entering Aitken Wood, a delightful woodland setting to show off the sculptures.

There are about 25 sculptures along the trail including the Magic Chair, the Witchfinder, the Ceramic Column, the Black Dog, and the Chained Witches amongst many others. Ceramic plaques representing 10 Pendle witches also provide additional entertainment for children for them to work out 'which witch is which'!

We walk back to Barley along the outward route, passing again by Upper and Lower Black Moss reservoirs.

A Walk in Newcastle Upon Tyne England Newcastle Upon Tyne is commonly known as Newcastle.

Newcastle Upon Tyne commonly known as Newcastle is a city in Tyne and Wear, Please don't forget to subscribe to my channel:

North East England, 103 miles (166 km) south of Edinburgh and 277 miles (446 km) north of London on the northern bank of the River Tyne, 8.5 mi (13.7 km) from the North Sea. Newcastle is the most populous city in the North East and forms the core of the Tyneside conurbation, the eighth-most populous urban area in the United Kingdom.[2] Newcastle is a member of the English Core Cities Group[6] and is a member of the Eurocities network of European cities. Quayside and bridges on the Tyne

The Quayside
The Tyne Gorge, between Newcastle on the north bank and Gateshead—a separate town and borough—on the south bank, is known for a series of dramatic bridges, including the Tyne Bridge of 1928 which was built by Dorman Long of Middlesbrough, Robert Stephenson's High-Level Bridge of 1849, the first road/rail bridge in the world, and the Swing Bridge of 1876.[85]

Large-scale regeneration has replaced former shipping premises with imposing new office developments; an innovative tilting bridge, the Gateshead Millennium Bridge was commissioned by Gateshead Council and has integrated the older Newcastle Quayside more closely with major cultural developments in Gateshead, including the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, the venue for the Turner Prize 2011[86] and the Norman Foster-designed The Sage Gateshead music centre. The Newcastle and Gateshead Quaysides are now a thriving, cosmopolitan area with bars, restaurants and public spaces. As a tourist promotion, Newcastle and Gateshead have linked together under the banner NewcastleGateshead, to spearhead the regeneration of the North-East. The River Tyne had the temporary Bambuco Bridge in 2008 for ten days; it was not made for walking, road or cycling, but was just a sculpture.

Newcastle was part of the county of Northumberland until 1400 when it became a county of itself, a status it retained until becoming part of Tyne and Wear in 1974. The regional nickname and dialect for people from Newcastle and the surrounding area are Geordie. Newcastle also houses Newcastle University, a member of the Russell Group, as well as Northumbria University.

The city developed around the Roman settlement Pons Aelius and was named after the castle built in 1080 by Robert Curthose, William the Conqueror's eldest son. The city grew as an important centre for the wool trade in the 14th century and later became a major coal mining area. The port developed in the 16th century and, along with the shipyards lower down the River Tyne, was amongst the world's largest shipbuilding and ship-repairing centres.

Newcastle's economy includes corporate headquarters, learning, digital technology, retail, tourism and cultural centres, from which the city contributes £13 billion towards the United Kingdom's GVA. Among its icons are Newcastle United football club and the Tyne Bridge. Since 1981 the city has hosted the Great North Run, a half marathon which attracts over 57,000 runners each year.
