The Cotswolds is is situated in central, south west England.
With it's gently rolling hills, beautiful honey coloured cottages and endless walks, this is one of my favourite places to visit in England and I'm going to share 10 things you can do in the Cotswolds England with a couple of extras at the end.
We spent a week in the Cotswolds doing a pet sit and watching 2 lovely cats, it gave us a base to explore this beautiful area and enjoy a great holiday.

What are the most beautiful towns in the United Kingdom? Just one visit to the UK can never be satisfying. Brits have a lot of great illustrious and epic places to visit. The country is full of beautiful, breathtaking, and magical locations. The challenge is where to find those locations. You will realize that the country is dotted with the most beautiful towns. Once your gaze is fixed on those places, you wouldn’t want to spend just an hour in big-hitting and popular places like London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, and even York before you head straight to attractive towns nestle in the nooks and crannies of the country. To help you identify some of these, we present in this video, the 12 most beautiful towns in the UK to visit.
12. Bangor, Northern Ireland
We will take you first to Northern Ireland, the region of the UK least often regarded. And we’re looking at the town of Bangor. We have to quickly tell you that this is the only town in Northern Ireland on this list and it’s in County Down.
This is a scenic seaside town that, kind of, puts the rest of Northern Ireland to shame with its extraordinary beauty as we discovered. The town whose name means “horned curve,” likely taken after the shape of Bangor Bay, had become a famous seaside resort during the 19th century for Victorian holidaymakers. Adding to the beauty of this town are many of its ancient architecture.
11. Painswick, England
It’s now the turn of Painswick, a town in the Stroud District in Gloucestershire. We reckon with Painswick as the loveliest village in Cotswolds. But prettiness doesn’t end there; it’s rated high among the prettiest towns in the UK. This town established itself during the historic wool trade boom. It’s now known as the Queen of the Cotswolds because of its heritage architecture and unique landscapes. The town, with its stone buildings and magical topiary trees, is packed with beauty as one of the most picturesque towns in the UK. Visitors admire the streets of Cotswold Stone houses and cottages. The stunning Rococo Garden opening in warmer months makes that season memorable.
10. Sandwich, England
The next is Sandwich, a historic town in the Dover District of Kent in southeast England. The civil parish lies on the River Stour. Its many original medieval buildings and several public houses listed in the old town walls, almshouses, and the White Mill are among the beautifiers of this town. The attractive town which was a major port is now more than 3 kilometers from the sea no thanks to the disappearance of the Wantsum Channel. Still, its historic center has been preserved. Those visiting this rustic, and romantic town described as the completest of the medieval towns in Britain are bound to see a lot of historic sites and attractions.
9. Cirencester, England
Cirencester, a market town in Gloucestershire, is known as the capital of Cotswolds. This town is also steeped in fascinating history. Lying on the River Churn, it is on the tributary of the River Thames. As the largest town in Cotswolds, it has to its west Cirencester Park. It is the seat of Earl Bathurst and also the site of one of the country’s finest landscape gardens, laid out by Allen Bathurst, First Earl Bathurst after 1714. There are also Abbey House, Roman Amphitheater, and other ancient yet beautiful locations.
8. Portree, Scotland
This is the first and only Scottish town on this list of the 12 most beautiful towns in the UK. Nestled in rolling hills surrounded by waterfalls, Portree has many quaint colorful cottages. There are plenty of places to wine and dine in this largest town on the Isle of Skye, which doubles as its capital, in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. The harbor is open for business in this Scottish gem. If you’re planning a visit, this is an area to have a bigger exploration of Skye. Among the places tourists consider to count this island worthy of their visits are the Old Man of Storr, the impressive beauty of Quaraing, and Kilt Rock.

Cirencester is an amazing town right in the heart of the Cotswolds. The Most Beautiful ENGLISH villages in the COTSWOLDS - Part 1
Some of the most beautiful English villages can be found in the Cotswolds. This guide shows you Englands prettiest villages and historical properties from this beautiful part of England.
Our 2 part guide, starts in Castle Combe, voted the prettiest village in England a number of times. Hardly changed since the 16 hundreds, this sleepy village is also famous for being the backdrop in a number of films, including Steven Spielberg's War Horse and the 1967 classic Dr Dolittle.
Walking down by the river By Brook, the weaver's cottages are the highlight. Home to the local weavers back in the 15th century, they were highly skilled craftsmen men and women and held high status in the village.
Castle Combe
Bibury is not to be missed on any trip to the Cotswolds. Possibly the most beautiful chocolate box village in the Cotswolds and noted as such by William Morris when he visited. The Arlington Row is the highlight of the visit and again seen in movies like Stardust and Bridget Jones Diary. It can get very busy here so suggest you come early morning or late afternoon when the tour buses have passed.

Burford has a sweeping long high street with delightful shops, antiques and tearooms. The 15th-century parish church of St. John Baptist is a magnificently preserved example and should not be missed whilst in the town.

Castle Combe and Cirencester, Cotswolds, UK

Castle Comb is located in the county of Wiltshire just northwest of the town of Chippenham. It is situated in a low valley and is surrounded by woodlands where you can find some public footpaths to enjoy a pleasant walk.
Castle Combe is known to have honey coloured houses made of Cotswold stone which is the typical housing material in this area. With its unique and one-of-a-kind appearance, it has been a perfect film and production location. Among the most well-known and recent productions are The Wolfman, Stardust, Dr. DoLittle and of course the film by Steven Spielberg - War Horse.
Castle Combe is so far one the most beautiful villages I have visited, its captivating character and serene ambience will surely pave the way for another visit.
The charming market town of Cirencester is in the county of Gloucestershire. It is home of the oldest agricultural college in the English-speaking world founded in 1840. The town centre has plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes should you wish to buy something or stop for a short break while exploring the town.

We begin the video at one of the highest points of The Cotswolds, Broadway tower, you can see for miles over the rolling hills of The Cotswolds and much of this part of England from here, it's also located next to the town of Broadway itself (often known as the jewel of the Cotswolds).
We then head to the hidden gem of Snowshill Manor, many people may not be aware that this exists but it is certainly one to visit, home to an eccentric collector, inside this house you can find artefacts such as samurai armour, hundreds of old bicycles, musical instruments and more!
After this we head to Lacock Abbey, technically just to the south of the Cotswolds but too good not to include, this was the location in which many of the scenes for Harry Potter were filmed, so you will likely recognise them as you stroll around. It's also the location that the first ever photographic negative image was taken, a truly historical and unique place!
We also visit locations such as Tysoe Windmill, Batsford Arboretum, and Upton House, some beautiful hidden gems for a perfect day out. as well as the iconic Castle Combe, possible THE image that you see when you think of the Cotswolds.

CIRENCESTER | A beautiful town in The Cotswolds England
Gimbal Walk TV visits Cirencester, the largest Town in The Cotswolds England. We take a walk around Cirencester Town Centre to see what this historic Cotswolds town is like.

Cirencester is a large market town in Gloucestershire, and set in the Cotswolds UK. Situated 80 miles west of London, this town has lots of tourist attractions and beautiful buildings to see if you travel here for a look around.
This is a historic Roman town just minutes away from the beautiful Cotswolds villages, and with a friendly welcome and a terrific market place.
Often referred to as the Capital of the Cotswolds, Cirencester town centre is dominated by the magnificent Parish Church of St John Baptist overlooking Market Square and the town centre streets full of shops, pubs, restaurants and hotels. Cirencester Parish Church of St. John Baptist is the largest parish church in Gloucestershire.
No trip to the Cotswolds would be complete without a visit to Cirencester for a walk around these historic streets to take a look at the history of the town, and to get a bite to eat or a drink in one of the little coffee shops or cafes in the narrow streets or yards here.
We start this Cirencester Tour at The Bathurst Estate and Cirencester Park on Park Lane, which has a fantastically huge wall and hedgerow to block nosey visitors from peeking in!
As we continue our Cirencester walk we head into the town centre and down past the Corinium Museum which is home to many Roman artefacts from the town and surrounding Cotswolds Villages.
The market stalls in market square are selling their goods as we walk past on the way to the Corn Hall Arcade and Indoor Market.
Our route on this Cirencester Walking Tour is Park Lane, Park Street, Black Jack Street, Silver Street, Market Place, Castle Street and Gosditch Street. We also visit Dollar Street.
On the way we see Cirencester Park, Corinium Museum, Cirencester Visitor Information Centre, St John Baptist Church and the war memorial in Market Square, as well as Corn Hall Indoor Market.

The Cotswolds is a region of exceptional beauty in South West England, spanning the five counties of Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Wiltshire and Worcestershire.
Some of the better known Cotswolds Villages include Burford, Chipping Campden, Stow On The Wold, Bibury and The Slaughters, whilst there are also larger English market towns like Cheltenham, Stroud, Witney and Tewkesbury. All beautiful places to visit in the Cotswolds.
Historical market towns such as Cirencester, Tetbury, Stroud and Tewkesbury offer excellent local shopping with thriving markets bursting with local produce. For those visitors looking to enjoy the countryside from a more urban base the larger towns of Gloucester, with its historic waterfront, and Regency Cheltenham Spa offers impressive architecture, stylish shopping and world-class horse racing.
Cirencester is a perfect example of a historic market town featuring a fantastic market place, shops and markets. Definitely worth a visit if you're visiting the Cotswolds!
