Located about 6400 ft above mean sea level, Mullayangiri is the tallest peak of Karnataka State. There is a temple at top of the summit.
While coming down from Mullayangiri take some time to stop over at a small quite temple dedicated to Seethala Mallikarjuna Swamy or Lord Shiva.
From Seethalayana and enroute to Baba Budangiri, I took a break at the Honnamana Halla Falls. Good place for kids to play around in chilled water and also good for clicking some pics.
From the curvy roads to scenic avenue, Baba Budangiri is abode to the man who brought coffee to India. It has shrine named after Sufi saint Baba Budan, who is revered by both Muslims and Hindus.
Just 7 kms ahead of Baba Budangiri there is a beautiful all season waterfalls called Manikyadhara. When sunlight falls on Manikyadhara, water droplets appear like sparkling pearls. Gaalikere is part of Baba Budangiri travel circuit. It is located about 6 kms from Baba Budangiri shrine.
On the way back from Baba Budangiri and towards Chikkamagaluru, don’t miss to visit Jhari waterfalls also called Buttermilk water falls.
Next day, got up and headed towards ancient city named Amruthapura which is 67 kms from Chikkamagaluru. Amruthapura is famous for architecturally amazing Hoysala temple of the 12th century, named Amrutheshwara Temple.
On the way back from Amruthapura, visited Ayyankere Lake which is about 23 kms from Chikkamagaluru. Ayyankere is Karnataka’s second biggest lake and is one place you should not miss. .
Coffee Museum acquaints you not only with the history but also makes you aware of the technological aspects of coffee plantations.
Post all my learnings about coffee processing, next I headed to ancient Kodandarama Temple at Hiremagaluru. Original structure of this temple is 1200 years old and the overall structure of this temple has the signatures of the Cholas, Hoysalas and Vijayanagar dynasties.
Amidst all the lush greenery and mountain ranges, a calm and serene lake called Hirekolale Lake is present at the foothills of Mullayanagiri Hills.
By Air: Mangalore Airport, which is located around 113 km away, is the nearest airport to Chikkamagaluru. The airport is well-connected to flights from Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and other major Indian cities. You can hire a prepaid taxi from the airport for Chikkamagaluru.
By Road Chikkamagaluru is well-connected to cities like Bangalore, Mangalore, Hubli and Hassan via state-run buses and private luxury buses.
By Rail The city does not have a railway station, so the nearest railway station is located in Kadur, at a distance of about 40 km away. You can take a taxi from Kadur railway station

Save for your Karnataka trip! 1. Hebbe falls: Hebbe Falls is situated about 10 km away from the famous hill station Kemmangundi in Chikmagalur town in Karnataka, India. The waterfall is under forest department and you need to take forest vehicle to reach to the falls. From the last stop falls is at a distance of 1km and is a short hike.
2. Kemmanagundi: There is a short hike in Kemmanagundi that takes you to a beautiful open viewpoint and is one of the best places to visit here. Once you are there check with the locals for the trem start point.
3. Mullayanagiri Peak: Mullayanagiri is the highest peak in Karnataka with a height of 6317 ft. Regarded as the highest peak between Himalayas and Nilgiris, Mullayanagiri peak is one of the best treks in Karnataka. You can hire a jeep till the topmost point of the peak.

Trails through forests and grasslands lead up to Mullayanagiri Peak. The cascading Hebbe Falls lie in an area of coffee plantations. The forested Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, northwest of Chikmagalur, is home to elephants, tigers and leopards.
