Charters Towers Accommodation and Caravan Parks

Pet Friendly Big4 Tourist Park located in Charters Towers, North Queensland. Variety of modern self-contained ensuited Cabins & Villa's to suit singles, couples, families, workers and groups of friends travelling together. Large off-set sites to suit large rigs, 3 acres of grassed camping sites. All of this set amongst award winning gardens on 10 acres.

Charters Towers - QLD

Onto charters towers it was great to get to a Big4 resort caravan park with pool, playground, and jumping pillow; it was heaven after a month in the outback! The temperature dropped 10 degrees as we got closer to the coast.

We explored the WWII Bunkers on towers hill, one of them had audio & video displays which was educational.

We got our first shop in a real supermarket in 3 weeks, I could have hugged Woolworths! Getting fresh food was harder than I remember from previous trips out here, fruit was mostly over ripe and expensive with 1 mango going for $18! Bread was also hard to come by taking days for stock to get replaced. The coast has it good I tell you!

Charters Towers, Gold Mining town in North Queensland - 4K Ambient Walk

Charters Towers is 134 kilometres (83 mi) inland (south-west) from Townsville on the Flinders Highway. At the 2016 census the population was 8,120 people. During the last quarter of the 19th century the town boomed as the rich gold deposits under the city were developed. After becoming uneconomic in the 20th century, profitable mining operations have commenced once again.

Being such an historic town, this 4K walking tour is packed with heritage listed buildings which protect the rich history of this outback mining town.

It was like walking back in to the wild wild west, but mixed a bit with contemporary Australian country town life.

CHARTERS TOWERS

Walk 4K Today acknowledges the custodianship of Charters Towers. For tens of thousands of years, the ancestors of the traditional owners the Gudjal people (pronounced Goodjal) lived on country in this Region. For the Aboriginal community, the land has a spiritual meaning. Gudjal people lived across the Region, especially along the Burdekin and Broughton Rivers, around the basalt country and its lagoons and west to the magnificent White Mountains National Park. Whilst Gudjal people have always lived in the Region, many other Aboriginal people have lived in the area and travelled widely within the Region concerned with not only the physical land, but also its spirits throughout history.

Gudjal country shares borders with the Gugu Badhun, Yirandali and Jangga people with whom strong connections still exist. The country throughout the Charters Towers Region historically supported, through its rich country side and permanent waters, a significant indigenous population prior to European settlement. The shared connection to the land by the traditional owners and the pastoralists from an environmentally sustainable perspective is critical. The traditional owners of the Region believe that the preservation of the land is imperative in protecting the natural and cultural values of their homelands.

Walk 4K Today expresses everlasting gratitude to the traditional owners of the Gudjal people for allowing this 4K walking tour to be possible.
