The Gilles are the oldest and principal participants in the Carnival of Binche in Belgium. They go out on Shrove Tuesday from 4am until late hours and dance to traditional songs. Other cities, such as Nivelles, have a tradition of Gilles at carnival, but the Carnival of Binche is by far the most famous. In 2003, the Carnival of Binche was proclaimed one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
There are around 1000 Gilles, all male, some as young as 3 years old. All wear the traditional costume of the Gille on Shrove Tuesday.
The outfit features a linen suit with red, yellow and black heraldic designs (the colours of the Belgian flag), trimmed with large white lace cuffs and collars. The suit is stuffed with straw, giving the Gille a hunched back.
They also wear wooden clogs and have bells attached to their belts.
In the morning they wear a mask of a particular design. After reaching the town hall, they remove these masks — they are not worn in the afternoon. During the afternoon parade, they throw blood oranges to (and sometimes at) the crowd and some of the Gilles wear large, white, feathered hats. They carry ramons, tied bunches of twigs, and baskets in which to carry the oranges. Their sticks are said to ward off evil spirits. (Wikipidea)

ComoComo Restaurant in Brussels
ComoComo, the hip new restaurant where you just pick a platter and go to town.
The Monceau arboretum is located in the park of the castle of Monceau-sur-Sambre. Today communal properties, the park and the castle belonged to several noble families (to the de Trazegnies, de Hamal and de Gavre) and to the Houtarts, a family of industrialists, before being sold to the town of Monceau in 1938. Formerly a French-style park, it has now become an English-style park, with its shaded alleys and winding paths. The park was in the past decorated with waterfalls, lakes, greenhouses and statues. Having become the owner of the premises in the 19th century, the Houtart family makes a point of maintaining and embellishing the estate and even opens the park to the public. The waterfalls and lakes have now disappeared, giving way to vast expanses of flowerbeds and lawns bordered by wooded areas. The 67-hectare park has housed an arboretum since 1999, one of the two in the City of Charleroi. In particular, you can discover many remarkable trees, including a group of seven ash trees, five Scots pines, three tulip trees, an American oak and a male dogwood. During the visit of the park, the visitor crosses on his way different species of ash trees, charms, oaks, elms, cherry trees, poplars, ... On the edge of the park, the light metro line has also been transformed into a small arboretum apart whole. On June 1, 2015, the municipal authorities decided to baptize the park of Monceau-sur-Sambre “Parc Nelson Mandela”. In 2017, the redevelopment of the park is completed. A Finnish track for joggers and a fitness trail have been created, the entrance gates renovated, just like the surrounding wall, a bridge over the Ernelle has been built, the paths have been designed for people with reduced mobility, and a 7,500 square meter landscaped pond was dug. This pond, 150 meters long by 50 meters and one meter twenty deep, has an artificial island.
