5 Day Trips from Paris, France | Easy Day Trips to take from Paris, France
In this video I'm sharing 5 Day Trips from Paris, France plus 2 bonus day trip ideas!
As of June 9, France is updating their travel restrictions to allow travellers from many countries to visit without quarantining! (Travellers must be fully vaccinated, and not all countries are included - so do some Googling for more info!)
For those of you who want to make the most of your upcoming travels, you can use Paris, France as a base to see other parts of France and even venture into neighbouring countries (as restrictions ease) to see more of the sights on your trip. While all of these locations are possible to visit in a day, you may want to dedicate more time (if you have it) to really see the area. But if you want a highlight of the area, a day trip can work well too!
Footage is from pre-pandemic. Be sure to check what is open if you're planning your own trip, as restrictions may impact the hours of many attractions still. Here are the 5 Day Trips from Paris, France and 2 Bonus Ideas!

Castles 🏰 & Horses 🐎Château de Chantilly. FREE Paris autumn itinerary in the description. #paris
𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝘃𝗲-𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗺𝗻 🍁 𝗜𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 - Day THREE.
Saturday, September 23rd is the first OFFICIAL day of autumn 🍂 and I seriously could not be happier. To help celebrate, I am putting together a super autumnal Paris itinerary. Each day has a theme, time-stamps & addresses, so you can easily use any or all of these ideas!
Day Three: Let's visit a French Chateau! Castles, Forests, Antiques, and Autumn Vibes.
9:06 AM - Don't let the idea of leaving Paris intimidate you, as my BEST and favorite memories in France are of day trips like this. If you can ride the metro, you can take a train for this trip to Château de Chantilly.
It's super easy, and, FYI, I have tutorial videos on both the Paris metro (two videos!) AND a video on how to use the trains in France.
This is a super-fast train ride, only 26 minutes direct.
I suggest using the app Trainline to book your ticket in advance - it's only $9.75 one way at the time of this post.
Why Château de Chantilly?
-The chateau has the 2nd largest art collection outside of the Louvre minus the crowds
- The Royal stables horse show should not be missed if you like horses.
- Quick commute. It's only 26 min from Paris.
- Of course, the castle is a magical and historical place to visit. Be sure to open the cupboards in the butler's pantry! The porcelain china…. Wow.
- Loads of restaurants to choose from, some Michelin.
- Antique stores.
- Walks in the forest. I also recommend horseback riding with Henson. They have exclusive rights to use the chateau grounds.
- Féte des plantes. If you can time it, they have an EPIC annual garden festival on the property in spring and autumn (October 6-8, 2023). I shared a video on this back in May - see my YouTube channel, link in bio. Absolutely magical for any gardener.
Take the 9AM train from Paris Gare du Nord, and you'll arrive into Chantilly in less than a half hour.
Train station address: 18 Rue de Dunkerque, 75010 Paris
9:32 AM arrive in Chantilly. The tourist shuttle to take you to the castle will be waiting. It leaves at 9:45 AM.
Did you arrive after that? No problem. Walking only takes 20 minutes and is flat. Or you can taxi or use the local bus.
9:50 AM - Arrive at Château de Chantilly. You can buy your tickets to both the castle and the horse show online, in advance.
The current horse show features colors, dances, aerobatics, captivating music and flamboyant costumes: TOTEM, the new creation of the Château de Chantilly equestrian company pays homage to horses and equestrians.
1 DAY TICKET + TOTEM EQUESTRIAN SHOW is 30 euros. Truly, don't miss the horse show (and you get to meet the horses beforehand!).
The castle hosts various events, concerts, shows, temporary exhibits, and programs throughout the year. So, check their website and ticketing page to see what else is happening.
The horse show is usually in the afternoon. So...
12:00 PM - Lunch. Right outside the castle and across the street from the stables, I recommend two restaurants for you to try. I also recommend booking reservations as both are in demand, and you want to ensure you get your lunch promptly.
Le Bouchon Gourmand
22 Rue du Connétable, 60500 Chantilly
Closed Sunday and Monday
Le Vertugadin
44 Rue du Connétable, 60500 Chantilly
Lunch Wed through Sunday
2:30 PM - Attend the horse show at the historic stables across the street.
CURRENT SHOW, SEPT & OCTOBER 2023: A spectacle of all colors, a true celebration told by the eight riders of the Compagnie equestre des Grandes Écuries, their thirty horses, donkeys and ponies, three dancers and a vaulter, who will take you on a journey to meet the riders of the world and disappeared civilizations : Aztecs, Amerindians, Mongols, Scythians, Indians, Abyssinian horsewomen and more.
If horse shows aren't your thing, consider a stroll through the Chantilly forest to kick the leaves and breathe the fresh air.
4 PM - On your way back to the train station, wander along main street shops and stop into Mathias Bon Studio. With table art, decor, and antiques, this little shop will surely have a treasure to take back home!
Rue du Connétable, 60500 Chantilly
4:45 PM - The walk back to the train station is a simple, flat, fifteen-minute stroll outside the Chantilly hippodrome. Keep an eye out for a horse race!
5:30ish PM (depending on train schedule that day) - Return to Paris and a half hour later, you're back in the heart of Lutece.
Did you enjoy this? Then PLEASE like and share! It helps so much. Merci!

Quick destinations in France, three hours or less from Paris. See description for more.
Get out of town! 🤩 These stunning destinations are less than three hours from Paris by train.
Haven’t traveled by train in France yet? Check out my step-by-step tutorial on YouTube - link in bio for quick access! 👍
I started traveling alone on day trips outside Paris during my second trip to France. From there, my first big adventure was to Nice. For some reason, I expected expansive sandy beaches and was surprised to find a stone plage. I loved the socca, the narrow and colorful rues of old town, the mouth-watering marché, and taking the local train to nearby destinations. I found confidence to travel further, even though my language skills were lacking.
At this point, the only region of France that I haven’t been to is Limousin. I could live twenty lifetimes in this miraculous country, and it wouldn’t be enough time to discover all of the beauty, people, heritage, history, traditions, micro-regions, culture, and secrets of ma belle France.
All these destinations are fantastic choices as you begin exploring what France has to offer outside of Paris. 👉It’s important to understand that the city doesn’t represent the rest of the country. There’s SO much more.👈
And of the easiest ways to start your adventure is by train. It’s such an enjoyable, stunning, low-stress way to travel. Walk on, sit down, and enjoy the views, darling.
