Chalus road (or road 59) is a critical road in Iran that was built nearly one century ago and without any major upgrade is still one of the most highly used roads in the Middle East. It passes through the Alborz mountains and connects Tehran, the capital city of Iran, to the northern regions of Iran. It's old and narrow, it passes through mountains and it can be quite dangerous. Chalus used to be called Salus or Shalus. It has a long history of rebels and fights with regional rulers or occupying foreign forces. Chalus used to have a large silk factory that was active from 1936 to 1958, and exported fabrics and other silk products to different countries.
Chalus is part of the Kalarestaq area and Kalarestaq is part of Ruyan. Ruyan is a land in the west of Mazandaran Province, Iran. This land includes Kojur, Kalārestāq and Tonekabon. The city of Kojur was the centre of the land of the Ruyans. Ruyan has always been part of the Tabaristan, nowadays called Mazandaran province. The Ruyan was also called the Rostamdār, Ostandār and Rostamdele.

چالوس از شهرهای کهن استان مازندران است که در جلگه میانی کرانه دریای خزر جای گرفته است. شهر چالوس در شرق شهرستان چالوس قرار دارد. اکثریت جمعیت شهر چالوس را بومیان کلارستاق که طبری تبار هستند تشکیل میدهند.
بر اساس آخرین آمار سازمان سرشماری ایران در سال ۱۳۹۵ شهر چالوس با جمعیتی بالغ بر ۶۵٬۱۹۶ نفر ششمین شهر پرجمعیت استان مازندران و پرجمعیتترین شهر غرب مازندران بوده است.دمای هوای این شهر در تابستان ۲۵ تا ۳۶ درجه و در زمستان ۵ .تا ۱۲ درجهٔ سانتیگراد است
خیابان رادیودریا چالوس یکی از بهترین خیابان ها و مکان های گردشگری شهر چالوس است. دلیل نامگذاری خیابان رادیودریا چالوس قرار داشتن یک مرکز رادیویی در انتهای این خیابان است که در قبل از انقلاب برنامه های رادیویی در آن اجرا و از طریق این ایستگاه پخش می شد، پس از گسترش شهر چالوس این خیابان، رادیودریا نامگذاری گردید.

The Chalus-Karaj axis is one of the most unique pristine and natural landscapes and one of the most popular routes leading to the north of the country, which sometimes causes heavy traffic during the holidays. This road is one of the busiest roads.
جاده چالوس، با نام رسمی جاده ۵۹، یکی از مهمترین جادههای دسترسی به شمال ایران برای مردم تهران و کرج است که از میان شهر کرج در استان البرز شروع و به شهر چالوس در مازندران وصل میشود. برخی این جاده را یکی از زیباترین جادههای جهان میدانند. محور چالوس - کرج از بی نظیرترین مناظر و چشماندازهای بکر و طبیعی و از پرطرفدارترین مسیرهای منتهی به شمال کشور میباشد که همین امر گاهی سبب ترافیکهای سنگین در تعطیلات میشود. این جاده یکی از جادههای پر رفت و آمدترین جاده ها است.
