Our visit to the pretty town of Burgersdorp was truly extraordinary. We were welcomed by a beautiful street lined with houses on either side and this set the tone for an unforgettable experience. The sight of a restored blockhouse immediately captured our attention, offering a glimpse into the town's rich history. Driving to the blockhouse rewarded us with a breathtaking view that showcased the town's charm. As we explored further, we stumbled upon the awe-inspiring Reformed Church, discovering its profound influence on the shaping of South Africa's religious future. The visit to the old jail, or Gaol, provided a fascinating insight into the town's past, while a beautiful drinking fountain stood as a testament to its historical significance. S1 – Ep 501 – Melkbosstrand, Western Cape!
We hadn't visited Melkbosstrand in a long time, and we were excited to see it again. The first thing we noticed was how much it had expanded, yet it remained beautiful and clean. We explored the local Saturday Family Market, which was a lot of fun, and then took a drive through the Ou Skip Caravan Park, which was awesome. It was such a gorgeous day that we decided to stop at the beach, where I went for a walk. There we saw people enjoying themselves with their dogs, fishing, running, and walking. As we started feeling hungry, we searched for a place to eat and found a delicious meal. S1 – Ep 184 – Steynsburg – Surrounded by Mountains and Hills in the Eastern Cape’s Karoo!
The hills and mountains as you approach Steynsburg are amazing. When we entered we could see that it was surrounded by them. This small town is located in the Eastern Cape’s Karoo and we love the Karoo. After filling up with fuel, we made sure to find the train station. The station building must have been a grand old building in its day but it is not in use anymore and is not in good shape. We then took a drive to the Town Hall and found it also not to be functioning anymore. The churches seemed to be in good condition except for one which looked totally abandoned. The caravan park was another spot we were very keen on visiting but it too was sadly not open for business anymore. I was happy to see that the local authority is working on the roads and improving them. Despite the town in some need of serious attention and upliftment, it was a very interesting visit to Steynsburg. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #steynsburg #easterncape #karoo #mountains

One of the Longest straights I've travelled
This section of straight as a die road in the Eastern Cape is about 16km (10 miles) long without so much as a kink in it.
It's the R391 road from Burgersdorp.
I find it quite hypnotic to watch, especially speeded up!

A day in Hanover.
I took the filming gear and decided to capture the little Karoo town to see it from a different angle. I made this fun edit to showcase the town which is said to be the halfway stop between Johannesburg and Cape town and also Port Elizabeth and Upington, which explains the fact that there is so many guesthouses.
Hanover, a small town in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa, is named after Hanover in Germany. The town was established in 1854.
The church in the middle of Hanover shows how busy this town used to be and is a magnificent architectural building.
The town is +-70 km from Colesberg and is surrounded by the Karoo Gariep nature reserve which hosts among others the New Holme guest farm which is next to the Seekoei river. A awesome guest farm to break away to and explore the area.
It’s mostly Merino sheep farms in the area.
A footpath leads up to Trappieskop which offers panoramic views of the area which can be seen on the drone shots in the video. There’s also or at least whats left of the signage which read Hanover Rocks.
The country's first observatory once stood proud at the top of Trappieskop, but it has been moved and is now part of the observatory at Sutherland.
