It is, like Lillehammer, Gjøvik, Brummundal and Moelv, towns in the Mjøs-region - all with a location by the largest lake in Norway, Lake Mjøsa. In this video we give you 10 reasons why you should visit Hamar. Brumunddal - Wood Hotel and Mjøsparken Norway, 4k
On the shores of Norway's largest lake, Mjøsa, in the city of Brumunddal, the tallest timber building in the world, Mjøstårnet, was built in 2019!
Its height is 85.4 meters. On 18 floors there are apartments, offices, a restaurant, and a hotel - Wood Hotel. There is a swimming pool on the ground floor in refurbishment. The building of pool is also made of wood.
Mjøsatårnet was developed by the Norwegian studio Voll Arkitekter. All structures, including load-bearing ones, are made of glued laminated timber beams. For stairwells, elevator shafts, and balconies, Cross-laminated timber panels were used. And since the main vertical/transverse structural elements and floor systems of Mjøsatårnet are built of wood, the building is considered solid wood.
In addition to the attractive uniqueness of the building itself, the wonderful park Mjøsparken is nearby. It was opened in the summer of 2020 and has an area of 82,600 square meters.
Previously, the site of the park was an important industrial area and a sawmill. Two old pumping towers remain in Mjøsparken. They were built around 1941, when the production of wallboard began, made from residual waste such as sawdust and shavings. This required a large supply of water, and work began on the construction of a pumping station and a new water pipeline from Mjøsa. Later, the facility was designed to supply Brumunddal with water. Today, the north tower has been preserved as a cultural monument, while the south tower supplies water to several businesses.
The park also has everything you need for a great walk or outdoor sports. There is a boat harbour, a skateboard park, a basketball court, a petanque court, a mini zip line play park, a bathing beach with cabanas, a flower garden, barbecue areas, toilets, and an electric bike charging station.
There is also a summer cafe in the park. And nearby there are many free parking lots and places for recreation for travelers on motorhomes or with a caravan.
Well, the main advantage is that Mjøstårnet and Mjøsparken are located very close to the E6 highway, that is, almost all travelers are on the way! And we consider it a great place to stop and walk! Feel free to put a star on the map!

An amazing time travel - Maihaugen museum, Lillehammer, Norway
This summer we visited Lillehammer. Maihaugen museum is the largest out-door museum in Norway. It displays about 200 historic houses from the 13th century until today. We absolutely loved peeking into the historical homes. Especially those from modern times (1970-2000) because they brought back memories from when we were kids.
Meny of the historical houses have open doors so you may have a peek through the door. Queen Sonja of Norway moved her childhood home to Maihaugen a few years ago. It is now on display so the you and I can get a glimpse of her upbringing before she became a member of the royal family.
Also, you will find the Garmo stave church from the 1200s as you enter the huge museum area.
