Puerto Escondido is a popular beach town on the Oaxaca Coast in Mexico. It’s a great place for a beach vacation. Here are our favourite places to eat breakfast in Puerto Escondido: 1.) El Cafecito: This place is always busy and for good reason. It has delicious food, big portions, and it’s cheap - what more can you want? 2.) La Casa Del Surfer is a family owned business with no set menu. Owner is super friendly and the food is great - we highly recommend their smoothie bowl! 3.) Sabina is another great spot that’s also a coworking space. 4.) A MAGICAL Day in Puerto Escondido, Mexico | Travel Guide | La Punta, Zicatela (Best Beaches!)

We’re BACK in Puerto Escondido! Today we're putting together a travel guide of some of our favorite experiences in the area. We started our day out on the southern coast of Mexico by getting up before sunrise to catch a boat out to the ocean! We had a goal to see some whales and dolphins when we booked this, and the boat tour far exceeded our expectations! We were lucky enough to see over 8 whales and 30-40 dolphins in total. There is truly no better way to start the morning in Puerto Escondido with some whale and dolphin watching! We were on our tour for about 3 hours in total, which was the perfect amount of time. After arriving back at our hotel in Puerto Escondido, Hotel Rockaway, we took advantage of an included breakfast, AKA the best kind. If you get motion sickness from being in boats, I'd recommend taking some anti motion-sickness medicine before the boat ride, it was SUPER bumpy! After breakfast, we hopped in a taxi (really cheap in Puerto Escondido) toward La Punta. La Punta is the very young and trendy side of Puerto Escondido that reminded us a lot of Tulum (but we like this a lot better than Tulum). We grabbed an acai bowl before walking along the beach. Like Zicatela, La Punta's beaches aren't the best for swimming, but awesome for surfing! After we were done at La Punta, we hopped back in a taxi towards Bacocho beach at the exact other end of the town. This is one of the less popular beaches in Puerto Escondido. It's much less organized and is a huge stretch of beach. We didn't visit for the beach though, but the turtles! There's a very famous sea turtle rescue at Bacocho! It's called Campamento TortugueroVive Mar Liberación de tortugas on Google Maps. For only 100 pesos, or 5 US dollars, you can release your own baby turtle into the ocean! This organization helps preserve the sea turtle population by helping to release turtles each day. If you want a truly unique experience (and beautiful sunset), this is a must do while in Puerto Escondido. OAXACA, MEXICO | The Perfect Oaxaca Travel Itinerary (Coast to the Mountains in 2-3 weeks)
Oaxaca lies in the southwest of Mexico. It’s made up of a vast coastline and rugged mountains, with narrow valleys, canyons and ravines between them. Oaxaca is best known for its unique cuisine as well as its indigenous people and cultures. The largest indigenous groups are the Zapotecs and the Mixtecs, but there are sixteen groups that are officially recognized. These cultures have survived better than most others in Mexico thanks to the state's isolating terrain and commitment to honoring traditions. In this video, we will show you the perfect Oaxaca itinerary. This itinerary is recommended for at least a 14 day stay in Oaxaca and can be completed by public transportation, rental car, or a mix of both!
Stop 1: Puerto Escondido How to get here: Direct flights from Mexico City and Guadalajara Recommended stay: 3-5 days
Stop 2: Mazunte How to get here: Bus from Puerto Escondido to Pochutla and tell the bus driver that you want to get off at San Antonio. From there, you’ll have to take a taxi or local collectivo. Recommended stay: 1-2 days
Stop 3: Zipolite How to get here: 20-minute taxi ride from Mazunte Recommended stay: 1-2 days
Stop 4: San José del Pacifico How to get here: Bus from Lineas Unidas Bus station in Zipolite directly to José del Pacifico Recommended stay: 2-3 days
Stop 5: Oaxaca City How to get here: Bus from San José del Pacifico main road to Oaxaca City (bus leaves every hour) Recommended stay: 7 days including day trips as mentioned below
Stop 6: Mitla How to get there? Take a bus or rent a car from Oaxaca City, which will take you here in approximately 1 hour. Recommended stay: day trip ☑️ Mitla day tour from Oaxaca City (in combination with Hierve El Agua):
Stop 7: Hierve el Agua How to get there? Located 70 kms or 43 miles from Oaxaca City, this is another site you can do as a day trip. You can rent a car or take a tour from Oaxaca. Alternatively, you can come by collectivo from Mitla. Recommended stay: day trip ☑️ Day Tour from Oaxaca City to Hierve el Agua and Mezcal Distillery:
Stop 8: Pueblos Mancomunados How to get there? There are buses to Cuajimoloyas and Benito Juárez that leave from the “second class” bus station in Oaxaca City a few times a day. The driver will drop you off near the “tourist office” where you can book your activities and accommodation. Recommended stay: 1-5 days
Where to next? After exploring the highlights of Oaxaca, you can continue your journey across other states in Mexico. The most common travel route goes to the southeast to San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas. It’s possible to take the ADO night bus from Oaxaca City, which takes about 12 hours.
Alternatively, you can head to the north towards Puebla and Mexico City. Puebla is another beautiful city and gateway to the surrounding mountains and volcanoes. It takes about 4 hours to get here.

Stick to the northern end of the beach for the best surfing spots, and the majority of the beach's hip cafes, restaurants, and accommodations. Beginners and those looking for a little more quiet will want to head to the south of the 3 km (1.9 mi) beach, where the surf still presents a challenge, but is more suitable for newcomers to the sport.
Watching the sunset is absolutely one of the best things to do in Puerto Escondido. The best place to watch is on the beach – either the main part of Zicatela, or from the cove of La Punta, Puerto Escondido.
From Zicatela’s main beach you will be facing west so you have a head-on view of the dipping sun over the water. Most nights you will find some expert surfers tackling these giant waves, and every night just before sunset a group of skydivers descend on the beach. There is often a big crowd of spectators sitting on the ridge of the beach, taking in the changing colors.

Perfect Day in Puerto Escondido Mexico | Paradise Gym, Playa Zicatela & More!
On my first full day staying on Playa Zicatela, I woke up and went to the coolest gym in town! Paradise gym is located directly on Playa Zicatela and had everything a person would need for a great workout! Later I took a coastal walk along a beautiful trail and went for a swim at Playa Principal. Visited some great beach bars, ate some great food and saw an amazing sunset. This was one of the best days of my trip! Super laid back and great vibes in Puerto Escondido!

Playa Zicatela, aka Mexican Pipeline is known for having one of the best surf beach breaks in the world. And for this reason Zicatela Beach is one of the world’s top 10 surf destinations.
We have seen other Puerto Escondido surf videos where the waves are MASSIVE! Hoping to be able to come back to see that someday - but until then these waves will be etched into our minds as the biggest waves we’ve ever seen!
