California: Brawley
Brawley (formerly, Braly) is a city in the Imperial Valley and within Imperial County, southern California.
The population was 24,953 at the 2010 census, up from 22,052 in 2000. The town has a significant cattle and feed industry, and hosts the annual Cattle Call Rodeo. Year-round agriculture is an important economic activity in Brawley. Summer daytime temperatures often exceed 105 °F (41 °C).
The Imperial Land Company laid out the town in 1902 and named it Braly in honor of J.H. Braly, who owned the land. After Braly refused to permit the use of his name, the name was changed to Brawley. The first post office at Brawley opened in 1903.
Incorporated in 1908, it was a tent city of only 100 persons involved in railroads and the earliest introduction of agriculture. It had a population of 11,922 in 1950, but population growth was slow from the 1960s to the early 1990s.
Brawley is located in the Colorado Desert and Lower Colorado River Valley regions. The city's elevation, like other Imperial Valley towns, is below sea level.
It is 13 miles (21 km) north of El Centro, about 70 miles west of Yuma, Arizona, 95 miles southeast of Palm Springs and 130 miles east of San Diego.
According to the United States Census Bureau, Brawley has a total area of 7.7 square miles (20 km2). All is land within the city limits, except for the Alamo River and New River that seasonally flow through the city. The New River has been reported as the most polluted river in North America.
Imperial Valley California | El Centro
El Centro in Spanish means The Center. El Centro was founded in 1906 by Holt and Barker who purchased the land on which the city was built. Initially, El Centro was a part of San Diego County.
El Centro is the largest American city to lie entirely below sea level. At an average of 50 feet below sea level, it is one of the lowest elevations in the continental United States. The area allows water from the Colorado River to flow there by gravity. Many farmers settled in the area when the water from the Colorado River was diverted via canals to irrigate the desert valley.
The nearby Algodones Dunes, the largest dune field in the US, draws thousands of visitors each year, mainly for off-road driving. The Salton Sea lies 30 miles (48 km) north of El Centro, but water sports enthusiasts head to the Colorado River, 50 miles (80 km) to the east near Yuma, Arizona
Mexico (the border city of Mexicali, Baja California) is 10 miles (16 km) away, which offers big city amenities like museums, a zoo and a sports/convention center.
El Centro Imperial Valley California has a desert climate and is the southernmost desert city below sea level in the continental United States.

Calexico, California | What is it like to live there?
Driving through and exploring the border town of Calexico. This town is located in southern Imperial County, California. Situated on the Mexican border, it is linked economically with the much larger city of Mexicali, the capital of the Mexican state of Baja California. It is about 122 miles east of San Diego and 62 miles west of Yuma, Arizona.
Calexico, along with six other incorporated Imperial County cities, forms part of the larger populated area known as the Imperial Valley.
The name of the city is a portmanteau of California and Mexico. The originally proposed names were Santo Tomas or Thomasville. Mexicali is a similarly named city directly across the international border from Calexico, its name being a portmanteau of the words Mexico and California.

State Route 111 (SR 111) is a state highway in the U.S. state of California. It is the main north-south route and retail corridor through the Coachella Valley, a part of the Colorado Desert in the southeastern corner of the state and a famous resort destination. It also runs through the Imperial Valley, and along the eastern shore of the Salton Sea. Driving by the Algodones Sand Dunes! We pulled the car to the side of the road and acutally got stuck in the sand, even though it was only 2 wheels! It's everywhere and deep! lol!

The Algodones Dunes is a large erg (sand dune field) located in the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of California, near the border with Arizona and the Mexican state of Baja California. The field is approximately 45 miles (72 km) long by 6 miles (9.7 km) wide and extends along a northwest-southeast line that correlates to the prevailing northerly and westerly wind directions. The name Algodones Dunes refers to the entire geographic feature, while the administrative designation for that portion managed by the Bureau of Land Management is the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area (sometimes called the Glamis Dunes). The Algodones Dunes are split into many different sections. These sections include Glamis, Gordon's Well, Buttercup, Midway, and Patton's Valley. Although the Spanish word algodones translates to the English word cotton, the name Algodones is a corruption of the Spanish and English names of the Yuman tribe that once dwelt nearby.

Charlotte, North Carolina - Food Tour/Essex Bar & Bistro/Brawley's Beverages/Good Food on Montford
Mrs. Karnes & Me are off to the Queen's City, Charlotte, North Carolina to visit our sin Andrew and his lovely wife Raquel. We are flying on American Airlines and we will visit the American Airlines Lounge in St. Louis, Missouri.
After a very nice flight, we meet up with Andrew and Raquel to start our food tour of Uptown Charlotte. The first place we visit is Essex Bar & Bistro.
After a wonderful lunch we tour the Uptown Charlotte area.

A trip to Brawley's Beverages is next on our list. This charming Tap Room, is the perfect place to sit and talk. The drinks are plentiful and good!
Our final stop for today was Essex Bar & Bistro. I can't say enough about the food and the service. We had such a delightful time and were completely stuffed, when dinner came to an end! I would highly recommend a visit to Essex Bar & Bistro. You will want to try everything so go when your extra hungry!

Bakersfield, CA to Brawley, CA via Malibu & Oceanside - High Speed Video
Even though I split up this video into several parts earlier on this channel, this entire video was done in one day starting in Bakersfield, going to Malibu, then Oceanside, then to Brawley. We left Bakersfield at 9:30am, stopped in Malibu at 12:00 Noon, left there at 12:30pm, arriving in Oceanside at 3:30pm. After an hour or so lunch in Oceanside, we left at 5:00pm and arrived in Brawley at 8:15pm to enjoy at meal at Las Chabelas Mexican Restaurant. The entire 11 hour trip (including lunch) was 379 miles. Please take note of the big sand storm we drove through on CA SR 78 just before hitting CA SR 86 at the Salton Sea. The time code on the sand storm is 58:10.
