California: Brawley
Brawley (formerly, Braly) is a city in the Imperial Valley and within Imperial County, southern California.
The population was 24,953 at the 2010 census, up from 22,052 in 2000. The town has a significant cattle and feed industry, and hosts the annual Cattle Call Rodeo. Year-round agriculture is an important economic activity in Brawley. Summer daytime temperatures often exceed 105 °F (41 °C).
The Imperial Land Company laid out the town in 1902 and named it Braly in honor of J.H. Braly, who owned the land. After Braly refused to permit the use of his name, the name was changed to Brawley. The first post office at Brawley opened in 1903.
Incorporated in 1908, it was a tent city of only 100 persons involved in railroads and the earliest introduction of agriculture. It had a population of 11,922 in 1950, but population growth was slow from the 1960s to the early 1990s.
Brawley is located in the Colorado Desert and Lower Colorado River Valley regions. The city's elevation, like other Imperial Valley towns, is below sea level.
It is 13 miles (21 km) north of El Centro, about 70 miles west of Yuma, Arizona, 95 miles southeast of Palm Springs and 130 miles east of San Diego.
According to the United States Census Bureau, Brawley has a total area of 7.7 square miles (20 km2). All is land within the city limits, except for the Alamo River and New River that seasonally flow through the city. The New River has been reported as the most polluted river in North America.

The Algodones Dunes is a large erg (sand dune field) located in the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of California, near the border with Arizona and the Mexican state of Baja California. The field is approximately 45 miles (72 km) long by 6 miles (9.7 km) wide and extends along a northwest-southeast line that correlates to the prevailing northerly and westerly wind directions. The name Algodones Dunes refers to the entire geographic feature, while the administrative designation for that portion managed by the Bureau of Land Management is the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area (sometimes called the Glamis Dunes). The Algodones Dunes are split into many different sections. These sections include Glamis, Gordon's Well, Buttercup, Midway, and Patton's Valley. Although the Spanish word algodones translates to the English word cotton, the name Algodones is a corruption of the Spanish and English names of the Yuman tribe that once dwelt nearby.

State Route 111 (SR 111) is a state highway in the U.S. state of California. Charlotte, North Carolina - Food Tour/Essex Bar & Bistro/Brawley's Beverages/Good Food on Montford
Mrs. Karnes & Me are off to the Queen's City, Charlotte, North Carolina to visit our sin Andrew and his lovely wife Raquel. We are flying on American Airlines and we will visit the American Airlines Lounge in St. Louis, Missouri.
After a very nice flight, we meet up with Andrew and Raquel to start our food tour of Uptown Charlotte. The first place we visit is Essex Bar & Bistro.
After a wonderful lunch we tour the Uptown Charlotte area.

A trip to Brawley's Beverages is next on our list. This charming Tap Room, is the perfect place to sit and talk. The drinks are plentiful and good!
Our final stop for today was Essex Bar & Bistro. I can't say enough about the food and the service. We had such a delightful time and were completely stuffed, when dinner came to an end! I would highly recommend a visit to Essex Bar & Bistro. You will want to try everything so go when your extra hungry!
