Brady Texas
BradyLake 1920
Day Trip to Brady 🎸 (FULL EPISODE) S11 E7
Texas stretches for miles, but there's one place that the stars truly are brighter and the folks encompass everything there is to love about Texas. And that's deep in the Heart of Texas. A place where you can reconnect with the simple pleasures of life.
When you’re in Brady, you’ve got to trip 20 miles north on 377 to find the Geographic Center of Texas. While the true center is on private land, there’s an awesome public marker on the Highway. Stop by and feel how Texan and magical it is to be standing right in the center of the best state in the world.
The old jail in the heart of the city is a great place to learn about Brady. Wander through the old cells and see the exhibits on famous folks in town. Then head next door to the Curtis Field Control Tower, where over 10,000 pilots were trained for combat. It’s an amazing tribute to the men and women who served.
It’s only fitting that at the center of Texas there would be a country music museum with personal items from over 125 country music stars, from Bob Wills’ fiddle to Merle Haggard’s shirt. Outside, pretend you’re a rockstar by stepping into Jim Reeves’ tour bus “Big Blue.”
This ain’t like any antique shop you’ve ever seen. It’s a great collection of odd goods collected over the years, like a “cabinet of curiosities.” Items for sale include prosthetic eyes, jars of baby doll parts, weird creepy puppets, taxidermy blow-fish. It’s a must-see for sure.
This is the site of one of the deadliest massacres in Texas history, when in the 1850s, a group of Indians massacred a caravan of settlers. It’s rumored to be haunted by the lost settlers, and people claim to hear the beating of Indian drums and screams at night.
You can’t talk Brady without talking about the World Championship BBQ Goat Cook-Off, and you might even say that smoked goat is a delicacy in this town. Stop into Mac’s where they serve up goat on special occasions, and get it in a platter with moist brisket and tasty sausage links.
Jacoby’s in nearby Melvin gives a new meaning to the term “Feed Store.” With giant steak dinners, homemade strawberry cake and that cozy hometown feeling, it’s everything you love about a small town cafe. If you’re hankering for some really good and flavorful meat, I suggest you get the Steak “Kansas City Style.”

Brady Mountain Campground: Capturing the Best Views in Hot Springs, AR
Join us on an outdoor adventure as we explore Brady Mountain Recreational Area in Ouachita National Forest. This campground is located just outside of Hot Springs, Arkansas. In this vlog, we take you along as we search for the best locations to practice our photography skills. The first stop had its challenges, with the water levels too high to capture the perfect shot, but we didn't let that stop us!
We continued our journey to two more stunning spots: a cliffside boulder with a jaw-dropping 200-foot drop, and the highlight of the day—the lookout point overview, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the lake and surrounding forest. We spent time practicing different photography techniques and sharing the experience with you, our audience. The natural beauty here made for an unforgettable day of capturing photos and creating moments in time.
While we had planned to end the day with a meal at a local spot, the restaurant was full, so we wrapped up the vlog with a final reflection from the parking lot. Whether you love photography, outdoor exploration, or just want to see the best views Brady Mountain has to offer, this vlog is probably for you!

The true heart of Texas, Brady Texas! Come hang out with us as we drive around, walk around and look around downtown Texas. There is a lot of little things to do around Brady, one of which is D & J's Good Ole Days Antiques and Oddities. You can check them out on Facebook - and the shop next to them is definitely worthy of your time, Alley Cat Salvage. I'm not sure if it is the same owners since they are connected but either way, check that side out too :-)

Brady is a city in McCulloch County, Texas, United States. Brady refers to itself as The Heart of Texas, as it is the closest city to the geographical center of the state, which is about 15 miles northeast of Brady. The population was 5,528 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of McCulloch County When the area was settled in the 1870s, the community was named Brady City after Brady Creek, which runs through town. The name was shortened to Brady when the town was incorporated in 1906. In 1787–88, Spanish explorer José Mares crossed the creek near the site of present Brady. Henry and Nancy Fulcher, the first settlers on Brady Creek, donated land for the townsite in the mid-1870s. Allison Ogden and his father-in-law, Ben Henton, built a store in 1875. A post office opened in 1876. After residents of McCulloch County chose Brady as county seat on May 15, 1876, the town grew fairly quickly. Brady had about 50 residents in 1877, and a stone courthouse was completed in 1878.
Thomas Maples began weekly publication of The Brady Sentinel in 1880; by 1884, Brady had two churches, a district school, three stores, two hotels, and 300 residents.
Stock raising was the primary occupation in the Brady area before 1900. In the 1870s and 1880s, local ranchers drove their cattle to markets in Kansas. Most other trade was with Brownwood and Lampasas. The number of farms and fences increased with the influx of immigrants in the late 1880s and 1890s. Poultry, sheep, goats, cotton, and pecans joined cattle as important sources of income for area residents.
When the Fort Worth and Rio Grande Railway arrived in 1903, Brady became a principal shipping point for Central Texas. The Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe came to Brady in 1912. By 1914, the town had grown to include four churches, two schools, two banks, several processing plants, manufacturing and supply outlets, and 2,669 residents. In 1926, Brady residents celebrated the building of 42-acre Richards Park by holding a two-day barbecue on the Fourth of July weekend; it was such a success that the celebration was labeled the July Jubilee and became an annual event.
Curtis Field opened just north of Brady in 1942 as a pilot-training school. Also during World War II, a German prisoner-of-war camp was built 3 miles east of the town; it housed more than 300 Germans, most of them members of Rommel's Afrika Korps.
Brady grew slowly from the 1920s through the 1950s, with population estimates reaching a peak of 6,800 in 1958. In 1959, the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway abandoned the section of track between Brownwood and Brady, thereby reducing Brady's access to outside markets. The population fell to 5,338 by 1961, and subsequently stabilized. Brady Reservoir was completed in 1963 for flood control, municipal and industrial water needs, and recreation. The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe abandoned the track between Brady and Eden in 1972, leaving the town with only a branch track to connect it with the main line at Lometa, in Lampasas County.
Brady had 5,925 residents and 142 businesses in 1988. It was principally a farming and ranching community. Its industry included a mohair-combing plant and sand-mining operations. The Francis King Art Gallery and Museum houses works by King, a painter and sculptor, and a collection of restored antique cars. The stone courthouse, built in 1900, was renovated in 2009. A horse racetrack, G. Rollie White Downs, opened in 1989 and closed in 1990. Brady's population in 1990 was 5,946, but dropped to 5,528 in 2010.
Thanks again for riding along with us and as always, Keep on keeping on! We'll see you down the road!

✦ GEAR I USE ✦
📸 Cameras: --------------------------------------------------- I get a lot of questions about the cameras I use. Here are my main cameras: • [GoPro Hero 13]( • [GoPro Hero 13 Creator Edition] ( This is the most durable camera. It withstands the elements and can go places other cameras can’t. There are many accessories available for GoPro cameras which makes the camera endlessly customizable and versatile. If you are intending to make vlogs or travel videos where you speak, you might prefer the creator edition.
• [DJI Osmo Pocket 3]( • [DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo]( This little handheld camera is very easy to pack because of its small size. It is not as rugged as the GoPro, but is easy to carry and make stable video. I use the creator combo version which includes an additional battery and a microphone that can be clipped to your shirt for improved audio which I like for filming walking tours.
🔋 Other useful tech: --------------------------------------------------- • [DJI OM 6]( This device attaches to a smartphone to help record more stable video. • [GoPro Enduro Battery]( An extra battery for the GoPro. • [Anker USB-C Cable]( A flexible and durable charging cable that charges quickly. • [Anker USB-C Power Bank]( These are great for recharging my phone or cameras while traveling, and are also useful for power outages. • [Anker MagGo Power Bank]( This battery connects directly to the back of iPhones that have MagSafe and can charge the phone without the use of a cable. • [Samsung Micro SD Card 256 GB]( This memory card works on most small cameras, and can record for a long time. • [Samsung 2TB SSD Portable SSD]( I take this hard drive with me when I travel so that I can back up the footage that I record on my trip. It fits in one of the pockets inside my tech case, and holds a lot of footage.
✈️ Travel gear I like: --------------------------------------------------- • [Peak Design Travel Duffel]( This durable bag fits easily into the overhead compartments on airplanes and the straps can be configured to be comfortably worn as a backpack, which is nice for long walks through an airport. • [Peak Design Tech Pouch Large]( • [Peak Design Tech Pouch Small]( I have both sizes, and have used the larger one consistently for many years. They are incredibly durable, and nicely fit all of my camera gear. I like that I can fit a GoPro inside of the larger one, along with cables, SD Cards, a battery and a small hard drive. People traveling with less gear or less space in their bags might prefer just the smaller pouch. •[Wetcat Turkish Beach Towel]( This towel spreads out large, but packs up tiny and dries quickly. I have disliked every other pack towel I have ever used, but this one is made of cotton and feels soft and does not have a funny smell. • [Yeti Cooler]( ) Buying food when traveling gets expensive, so I try to pack as much food as I can. This cooler keeps things fresh for a long time. It also means that I can pick up local foods when I go places and bring them home with me.
🎧 Audiobooks: --------------------------------------------------- I listen to lots of audiobooks while on the road. Get started with a free audiobook here: • [Audible]( You might enjoy listening to [Forget the Alamo the Rise and Fall of an American Myth](

Tom Brady’s High School and San Mateo
Let's take a trip to the peninsula city of San Mateo, about 30 minutes south of San Francisco. We'll see the Japanese Garden, a bit of the downtown area, and Junipero Serra High School. Nowadays, Serra High School's most famous graduate is probably Tom Brady, who was a 3 sport athlete there, but did you know that Lynn Swan and Barry Bonds also graduated from here? In fact, the alumni roster has an incredible number of famous people.
