Beavers Bend State Park, Broken Bow, Oklahoma

Beavers Bend State Park is a beautiful place. One can really get a sense of GOD's majesty in this place. It is well worth the visit. I had visited it earlier in the week, but had missed this hike. I am so glad that I went back and found this part of the park. It was well worth the two hours of hiking through the rocks and river bottom topography. Oh, I can only imagine what Heaven will be like!!

Oklahoma's Devils Den - Cinematic Aerial

Here is some drone footage from the historical Devil's Den, along the Pennington Creek, north of Tishomingo, Oklahoma. Between the 1930's and 1980's, this was a favorite destination for camping, swimming, and hiking for families. Unfortunately, for nearly 40 years, this place has been private property and off limits.

Trawler Life – An Awesome Hike and Exploring Sika, Living aboard Sea Venture + Q&A EP 68

We started out in Kalinin Bay with an amazing hike along an estuary, around a lake, through a forest and bogs to Sea Lion Beach. The sun came out while we explored the beach. Then we cruised the inner waterways to Sitka. We fully explored the town and re-provisioned for the next month as we continue our adventures in SE Alaska.

This video was filmed in August in SE Alaska.

This is our trawler life story.

We retired early and decided to make a big change. We sold everything and moved aboard our 54' Cheoy Lee passagemaker, a “go anywhere in the world”, ocean going power boat.

That was in 2014 and we have never looked back. Now in our late 50's we are free of work and we are living aboard and cruising our trawler full time.
We have two additional crew members, feline brothers, Blake and Barkley. Yes, we have two brave (sorta) boat cats, on board!

Join us and our crew, on our adventures as we explore new places, discover more about our trawler and what makes her work, and learn more about ourselves in our young retirement years.

Our hope is to entertain and inspire you to pursue your own passions through telling our story of our cruising trawler lifestyle.

We end most episodes with a “Trawler Q&A” where we answer your questions.

Thanks for watching, subscribing and liking Cruising Sea Venture!
Best, Jim, Rosy, Blake and Barkley

New York, New York - Central Park - The Mall and Literary Walk (2020)

The Central Park Mall is a pedestrian esplanade in Central Park, in Manhattan, New York City. The mall, leading to Bethesda Fountain, provides the only purely formal feature in the naturalistic original plan of Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux for Central Park.

The Mall was designed so that a carriage could disgorge its passengers at the south end, then drive round and pick them up again overlooking Bethesda Terrace, whose view of the Lake and Ramble formed the ultimatum of interest in Olmsted and Vaux's vision. With no need for redoubling their steps, fashionable New Yorkers, who in the first decades of the park's existence drove through it in their carriages but rarely walked in it, had their chance to mingle with the less affluent, a mix that was considered thoroughly American and picturesque enough to be illustrated repeatedly in the watercolors of Maurice Prendergast and Ludwig Bemelmans.

To the east of the Mall, the wisteria pergola parallels the Mall at the top of a slope; it provides screening and separation from the Mall for another outdoor concert stage in New York's Central Park, Central Park SummerStage.

Central Park is an urban park in New York City located between the Upper West and Upper East Sides of Manhattan. It is the fifth-largest park in the city by area, covering 843 acres (3.41 km2). It is the most visited urban park in the United States with an estimated 38 million visitors annually, and is the most filmed location in the world.

Following proposals for a large park in Manhattan during the 1840s, it was approved in 1853 to cover 778 acres (3.15 km2). In 1857, landscape architects Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux won a design competition for the park with their Greensward Plan. Construction began the same year; existing structures, including a majority-Black settlement named Seneca Village, were seized through eminent domain and razed. The park's first areas were opened to the public in late 1858. Additional land at the northern end of Central Park was purchased in 1859, and the park was completed in 1876. After a period of decline in the early 20th century, New York City parks commissioner Robert Moses started a program to clean up Central Park in the 1930s. The Central Park Conservancy, created in 1980 to combat further deterioration in the late 20th century, refurbished many parts of the park starting in the 1980s.

Main attractions include landscapes such as the Ramble and Lake, Hallett Nature Sanctuary, the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, and Sheep Meadow; amusement attractions such as Wollman Rink, Central Park Carousel, and the Central Park Zoo; formal spaces such as the Central Park Mall and Bethesda Terrace; and the Delacorte Theater. The biologically diverse ecosystem has several hundred species of flora and fauna. Recreational activities include carriage-horse and bicycle tours, bicycling, sports facilities, and concerts and events such as Shakespeare in the Park. Central Park is traversed by a system of roads and walkways and is served by public transportation.

Its size and cultural position make it a model for the world's urban parks. Its influence earned Central Park the designations of National Historic Landmark in 1963 and of New York City scenic landmark in 1974. Central Park is owned by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation but has been managed by the Central Park Conservancy since 1998, under a contract with the municipal government in a public–private partnership. The Conservancy, a non-profit organization, contributes 75% of Central Park's $65 million annual budget and is responsible for all basic care of the park.

Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge

The Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge is a great escape from the city. There are over 18 miles of hiking trails here. I got to hike part of the Canyon Ridge Trail, the Marsh Boardwalk and the Greer Island/Margaret Parker Memorial Trail.
