Places to see in ( Formby - UK )

Places to see in ( Formby - UK )

Formby is a civil parish and town within the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton in Merseyside, England. Historically in Lancashire, three manors are recorded in the Domesday Book under Fornebei as Halsall, Walton and Poynton. The town's early recorded industry points to cockle raking and shrimp fishing (in addition to arable ventures) last through into the 19th century. By 1872, the township and sub-district was made up of two chapelries (St. Peter and St. Luke), and contained Birkdale township, the hamlets of Ainsdale and Raven-Meols and Altcar parish. Formby was built on the plain adjoining the Irish Sea coast a few miles north of the Crosby channel where the sands afford shelter to the towns.

Formby is affluent with high owner-occupation and car ownership. Strong economic ties are retained with nearby Liverpool to which it acts as a dormitory town for some of its residents. The greater area is a popular tourist destination during the summer months, with day trippers attracted to its beaches, sand dunes and wildlife - most particularly the endangered red squirrels and natterjack toads. The area is conserved by the National Trust, and designated a site of Specific Scientific Interest.

Erosion of sand on the beach at Formby is revealing layers of mud and sediment, laid down in the late Mesolithic to the late Neolithic, approximately 8,000 – 5,000 years ago, and covered in the early Bronze Age. Formby Hall is a Grade II listed building dating back to 1223. It has traditionally been the home of the lords of the manor. Much of the land around it is now a golf course.

Formby Beach is the location of the first lifeboat station in the UK. It is believed to have been established as early as 1776 by William Hutchinson, the Dock Master for the Liverpool Common Council. Although no exact record has been found, the boat used is believed to have been a 'Mersey Gig'.

Formby is a coastal town roughly 7 sq miles (17 km²) in the borough of Sefton. The town is built upon the west of a large flat area of land called the West Lancashire Coastal Plain. The town is 1.5 feet (0.5 metres) below sea level at its lowest point. Formby's highest point is within the sand dunes that separate the Irish Sea from Formby, sand dunes are ever changing in shape and formation so there is no fixed point. The River Alt runs into the Irish Sea just south of Formby at Hightown.

Formby is in a temperate climate zone, with mild winters and warm summers. Formby's coastline faces an ongoing threat from water based erosion, with high tides washing away yards of sand dunes. In an attempt to stem this, in some years discarded Christmas trees are collected and planted by rangers to help slow this effect.

Formby has a significant tourist industry most notably between the warmer months of May and September. In particular it's popular with day trippers from Liverpool and other industrial towns in Merseyside and West Lancashire. There are two main spots along the Formby Coast which are particularly popular with the public.

Formby Bypass (A565) was built over fifty years ago to take the major Liverpool to Southport route out of Formby and cut alongside the fringe of the town. The bypass is a dual carriageway with two roundabouts and two sets of traffic lights. It has been the scene of many accidents, some fatal and there are calls from some for the scrapping of a proposed motorway link as a result. The B5195 links Formby with Ormskirk and Maghull. Motorways are easily accessible, the M58 and M57 are both 6 miles from Formby.

( Formby - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Formby . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Formby - UK

10 Worst Seaside Resort Towns in The UK

What are the worst seaside resorts in the UK? Anyone leaving home to spend some time at a resort is going with high expectations. There are tons of things to do at seaside resorts. However, it’s not all seaside resorts that live up to their designation. Some of them could be better described as anything else but resorts. Some of these pseudo-seaside resorts are there in the UK. We hereby present to you the 10 worst seaside resorts in the UK.
After considering each of them, the choice is yours to patronize them or steer clear of them. These seaside resorts in the UK were rated based on several features that are expected in seaside resorts and they were weighted over 100 points. The following are the scores.
10. Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, England
Burnham-on-Sea is a seaside town located in Somerset, England. You would be fair to this place at the mouth of the Parrett River, upon Bridgwater Bay, if you reckon with it as a fishing village or town, for the sake of respect, that it used to be until the late 1700s when it began to grow.
While the park at Burnham-on-Sea was lovely with clean facilities and lots of activities, the resort could not score more than 48 points. The onsite pizza costs too much; you need a 10-minute walk to get a better deal. Most of the accommodation here is caravans without heating in the bedrooms. The bedding quality of the rooms is begging to be upgraded.
9. Colwyn Bay, Conwy, Wales
Colwyn Bay, a town and community in Conwy County Borough cannot escape our attention. Conwy is on the north coast of Wales where it is overlooking the Irish Sea. The town of Colwyn Bay is recognized as a seaside resort within the historic county of Denbighshire, no doubt. But what is in doubt is the quality of the resort. From what we know Colwyn Bay can’t earn more than 58 points.
Yes, the clean rooms, the security, and proximity to the North Wales Expressway, the railway station, and the beach count for something. However, the services were generally poor. The rooms are freezing without a heater and electrical fittings including plumbing were not being maintained. The food options were zero.
8. Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England
Then next is Great Yarmouth. Joining them in removing the prefix “great,” let’s comfortably join in referring to it by just Yarmouth which is more fitting than Great Yarmouth. In any case, it is recognized as a seaside resort town in Norfolk, there in England. Straddling the River Yare, it is located 30 kilometers east of Norwich.
As a seaside resort, Yarmouth ties with its more neighborly Burnham-on-Sea and Colwyn Bay in Wales to score 58. Though it has sandy beaches and two historic piers, amusement rides, and restaurants, Yarmouth as Norfolk’s flagship beach town is always crammed. Holidaymakers during the summertime suffer disorderliness here as if there are more services than the management could handle in an organized manner.
7. Morecambe, Lancashire, England
Morecambe is a town in the City of Lancaster in Lancashire, England. It’s hard to understand why Morecambe is still being referred to as a seaside resort. Up until the mid-20th century, it was a thriving seaside resort. Then it was home to the country’s largest Pontins resort.

Liverpool !! Beautiful City In England ! UK Trip 2022 !

#Liverpool #UnitedKingdom #UKTrip2022

Liverpool is a maritime city in northwest England, where the River Mersey meets the Irish Sea. A key trade and migration port from the 18th to the early 20th centuries, it's also, famously, the hometown of The Beatles.
Liverpool is built on low hills, with the 70 meter high Everton Hill being the highest. The Liverpool urban area extends to Bootle and Crosby in the Sefton area to the north, and to the Huyton and Prescot quarters in the Knowsley area to the east. Liverpool faces Wallasey and Birkenhead across the River Mersey to the West. Liverpool city center is located approximately 8 kilometers from Liverpool Bay and the Irish Sea.

Liverpool is administered by Liverpool City Council, one of 5 Councils within the Merseyside Metropolitan Area. Liverpool is one of the main cities in England and has the `fifth largest population' with a population of 441,477 in 2002, and for Merseyside conurbation, the population reached 1,362,026

Liverpool residents are called Liverpudlians and nicknamed Scousers, which refers to 'scouse', a steamed dish. Scouse is now more associated with the Liverpool accent.

Guys, today I'm #traveling to #liverpool, so from Manchester I took the train to Liverpool to see the beautiful city of Liverpool, and visited The Beatles Story as well as #anfield the stadium of #liverpoolfc.

Most beautiful sunset in an English village | Dreamy Destinations UK

Corney is a small settlement in Cumbria, England, and located in the west of the Lake District. It is near the A595 road, in the civil parish of Waberthwaite and it is located north east of Bootle and is 10 miles north of Millom. The name is well known to travellers who take the fell road from Duddon Bridge to Ravenglass, as this route is known as the Corney Fell Road. It is possible to see the Isle of Man, North Wales and parts of Scotland from Corney on a clear day.

Corney is home to a predominantly agricultural community. Corney is also close to the ruins of a 12th-century Benedictine nunnery (no public access). St John's Church dates back to as early as the 12th century.

Corney, coincidentally, is almost exactly located at the South West Corner of The British Geological Survey, 1:50,000 Geological Sheet 38 (England and Wales). Corney is underlain by Grandiorite of the Eskdale intrusion, intruded during the Ordovician period.

5 historical things you might not know about Liverpool

Liverpool is another northern city with a rich history. But away from the main plot points about music, sport and other generic culture, many interesting side stories exist. Did Liverpool really pioneer the way in tropical medicine research? Did it really lead Britain in the fight to protect children's rights? Why does the local accent sound so distinct from other in England? Did Adolf Hitler really wander the streets looking for a purpose in life? And what the hell is a Liver Bird?
While many proud Liverpudlians (or 'Scousers') will know many of these facts, some may still be unknown to outsiders. Either way, it makes a fascinating tale to unravel!
