Britain’s currency is the pound sterling (£), which is divided into 100 pence (p).

Scotland has its own pound sterling notes. These represent the same value as an English note and can be used elsewhere in Britain. The Scottish £1 note is not accepted outside Scotland.

There are lots of bureaux de change in Britain – often located inside:

Passport And Visas Requirements To Enter The UK

Please note: Following the recent referendum vote for the UK to leave the European Union (EU), there are currently no changes in the way people travel to Britain. The following guidelines still apply:

If you're planning an adventure to the UK, depending on your nationality and your reason for visiting, you may need to organise a visa.

If you're an American, Canadian or Australian tourist, you'll be able to travel visa-free throughout the UK, providing you have a valid passport and your reason for visiting meets the immigration rules (link is external).

Citizens from some South American and Caribbean countries as well as Japan are also able to travel visa-free around the UK.

European Union citizens, non-EU member states of the EEA (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland), Switzerland, and members of the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) do not need a visa to enter the UK.

If you have any further visa questions visit the official UK government website.

Bolsover Castle - A look Inside ( English Heritage / Derbyshire )

We visited Bolsover Castle 28th February 2023 situated in North-East Derbyshire. Run by English Heritage the castle was built in 17th Century on the earthworks of the ruins of a 12th century medieval castle. The Little Castle was created for William Cavendish. In 1634 the Castle hosted King Charles 1 with his queen Henrietta Maria .
The Castle has a spectacular view across the landscape. The Little castle is a mix of Norman Jacobean and country house.
There are lavish decorated rooms and a wall walk which has been restored so that you can enjoy a walk overlooking the fountain gardens and views across the countryside.
In the Little Castle there are some elaborate wall paintings, carved fireplaces and tapestries to enjoy.
The Terrace Range has a view across the Vale of Scarsdale. The Range now in ruins was a series of elaborate rooms that formed the entrance.

BOLSOVER CASTLE | We take a full walk round Bolsover Castle near Chesterfield in Derbyshire UK to have a look around this amazing British Castle!

Bolsover Castle is an English Heritage Castle in the town of Bolsover in the East Midlands of Britain. It's a castle soaked in history so we took the Gimbal Walk TV cameras and headed straight for the castle grounds to have a look around and soak in the atmosphere!

This full Bolsover Castle tour takes in the whole site from the entrance with it's gift shop and cafe, through to the Little Castle, The Fountain Garden, as well as the Terrace Range and the castle walls.

Whilst walking round Bolsover Castle you can't get caught up in the historic feel of the place and English Heritage have done an outstanding job of looking after, maintaining and caring for this incredible place.

Perched on a ridge high above the Vale of Scarsdale, on the site of a medieval fortress, Bolsover Castle is an extraordinary 17th-century aristocratic retreat. The exquisite ‘Little Castle’ has remarkable wall paintings and interiors, and the Riding House is the earliest such building in England to survive complete.

The castle was founded in the late 11th century by William Peveril, one of William the Conqueror's knights, but it was neglected from the mid-14th century. Its ruins provided the setting for the Little Castle begun in 1612 by Sir Charles Cavendish as a retreat from his principal seat at Welbeck, a few miles away.

The design of the Little Castle was intended to evoke a Norman great tower, which it clearly resembles viewed from a distance, rising sheer from the cliff.

Since 1984 Bolsover Castle has been in the care of English Heritage. The parapets on the wall-walk have recently been restored, offering views out over the landscape, and the Fountain Garden, with the Venus Fountain as its centrepiece, has been replanted with period plants. He Bolsover Castle Horses are now once again a regular sight here.

The Little Castle was created as an extravagant retreat by playboy, poet and courtier, Sir William Cavendish. With medieval-style turrets and towers it was a building designed to surprise and delight.

TV shows filmed here include Antiques Roadshow, Most Haunted (the Bolsover Castle Teddy Bear episode where a TV producer was sent to hospital after an encounter with the Bolsover Castle Haunted Teddy Bear), and the 2008 film 'Summer'

Piantings and photographs of The Bolsover District, Derbyshire, England, by Markijnr

How beautiful the English countryside can be if we only open our eyes and look a little more closer. How wonderful it was to have had the opportunity to go out and paint this wonderful landscape. I believe nature can be the greatest teacher in Art, for it is forever changing and re-inventing itself.

A beautiful flower does not always need a man to help it grow and blossom, and a cloud will never look the same twice. O.K some artists and designers will debate about Capatalism and it's effect used by mass consumerism that can easily convince many people that cheap plastic products with bland lifeless faces are fashionable, but i do not wish to talk much about politics, because i know deep in most people's hearts, they still can see the true beauty of nature, love and individuality.

Logan visits BOLSOVER CASTLE - Full tour of the castle and grounds. Filmed on GoPro10 4K-16/04/2022

A good trip to Bolsover Castle

AULT HUCKNALL: Bolsover Parish #10 of 16

Welcome to one of rural England's most charming chunks of land. This one has more than a few bits to tell us about life in the heart of Derbyshire, about how life was in Elizabethan times, and how life was for the rich and the powerful. In this case, the woman with the power was the second richest person in the UK behind Queen Elizabeth I - Bess of Hardwick.

A lot of these lands belonged to the Hardwick Estate, a lot of them still do. There are seven settlements in this parish, and a whole lot of National Trust land, some of which is rightly a conservation area. Funnily enough though, its sparse population of less than 1,100 people mostly live in the two settlements that have nothing to do with Hardwick Hall.

They are Bramley Vale and Doe Lea, both of which are mining areas which are something of an anomaly really compared to the rest of the parish. You see, generally this area gives you tiny farmsteads like Astwith and Hardstoft and Rowthorne - which are a million miles away from anything to do with mining.

Then of course, there's Hardwick Hall itself, built with as many windows as Bess of Hardwick deemed possible so she could admire her kingdom, which included two massive lakes and the River Doe Lea. An impressive structure for all to see, Hardwick Hall is famed for many things including a collection of embroideries and even a scene or two in Harry Potter!

Oh and is the main village really the smallest village in England? It would claim to be. This is AULT HUCKNALL.

****

My name is Andy. I am armed with a car, a GoPro and an unhealthy amount of time on my hands.

Join me as I try to visit every single parish in the district of Bolsover. There are 16. Here's the TENTH one – Ault Hucknall.

Episode 8 Bolsover Castle

Episode 8 of Season 4 of the Barnes Family Adventure Series

Bolsover Castle. June 2014

Had a great time looking around Bolsover Castle, Derbyshire. It's set in magnificent surroundings with amazing panoramic view. Its a medieval fortress dating back to 1612. There are an abundance of rooms to discover and erotic delights in the staterooms. In the courtyard there is the Venus Fountain. Enjoyed watching the Cavalier Horsemanship that dates back to the 17th Century. Unfortunately photos and filming were prohibited for the show. Overall a lovely day for all the family and I would highly recommend anyone to visit this English Heritage site.
