WICKLOW: Plenty of Fun - Blessington Lake & Russborough House
Today we will be visiting Blessington Lake and Russborough House in County Wicklow.
Blessington Lake is set in the mountains formed by the building of the Poulaphouca Dam and hydroelectric station. The Poulaphouca reservoir is the largest man-made lake in Ireland.
When we went there was a food court with delicious food like pizza, churros, bbq and more, but remember that places like this usually only open during warmer months, I will leave you their website so you can plan your visit.
Also, there is a place to rent a bike or do other activities.
Russborough House was built in the mid-1700s. This house is considered a palladian jewel. Many people have referred to it as the most beautiful Georgian House in Ireland.

On this 26km round trip you will get to experience one of Wicklow’s hidden gems. The drive surrounds the valley where the Kings river once met the river Liffey. In 1940 the valley was dammed at Poulaphouca and flooded to supply water for Dublin city. On this trip you will experience breathtaking views and enjoy a hidden part of Wicklow that is steeped in history and intrigue. This lake is very huge. Many Danger sign warns people not to swim in the lake. Because it’s an artificial lake and many accidents happened in earlier years. So, have to be careful. Few places available for boats hire in the Lake for families and fun. You visit those place in Blessington Lacken Ballyknockan Valleymount

Blessington Greenway
The Blessington Greenway walk links the historic town of Blessington with the Palladian mansion at Russborough House. The trail starts at Blessington and leads south along the shores of Blessington Lakes and through forest and natural woodland. The Greenway commences at Avon Ri Activity Centre at the southern end of the town and weaves its way along the shores, crosses an ancient medieval Ringfort, uses the footpath along part of the N81 before turning back into the forest at Burgage Moyle lane. It then crosses the Valleymount Road (R758) and makes its way to Russellstown Bay adjacent to Russborough House. Along the way you will have the opportunity to appreciate the magnificent scenery and wildlife in the area. More info at:

Ireland Facts Ireland is known for its wide expanses of lush, green fields. In fact, its nickname is the Emerald Isle. But there are also large areas of rugged, rocky landscape. About 15,000 years ago, Ireland was completely covered by thick glaciers. The movement of these giant sheets of ice stripped the soil, leaving huge tracts of flat, limestone pavement.
NATURE The Irish have a great affection for nature and rural life. The country's first coins even featured pictures of animals. Low levels of development and pollution in Ireland have left most of the nation's open spaces relatively undisturbed. Did you know that there are no wild snakes in Ireland? The sea has stopped many animals common on mainland Europe from reaching the island. There are also only two wild mouse species, one type of lizard, and just three kinds of amphibians.
