The Congaree State Park is located 20 miles outside Columbia and is one of the only places in the entire country where you can see a large tract of old-growth hardwood forest sustained by the floodplains of the Congaree and Wateree Rivers. There are two ways to explore this amazing habitat, which supports a large variety of wildlife – you can take to the waters along the marked 15-mile Cedar Creek Canoe Trail in a canoe or kayak (you need to bring your own craft), or you can hike an assortment of hiking trails. You can pitch your tent at one of two campsites, try your hand at fishing, or enroll in a ranger-led program.
Angel Oak tree on Johns Island, reported being one of the largest oak trees in the world. As an estimated 400-500-year-old live oak, this tree measures at 65 feet tall but amasses 17,200 square feet of shade. It’s considerably wider than it is tall, and it’s this type of growth that lends the live oak tree, and especially the Angel Oak, its majesty and impressive presence. With a circumference of 28 feet, it would take five grown men standing hand in hand to stretch around the entire trunk of the tree. This tree has survived for almost half a millennium, and it has been around longer than the United States has, and the city wants to make sure its growth continues through the next 500 years.
Hilton Head Island is one of South Carolina’s most beautiful locations, boasting rich historical importance and a wide range of cultural attractions. Bennettsville , S.C. - Driving Into & Out - Sept 2019
My hometown of Bennettsville , S.C. which I moved from in 1985 when I went into the Army to Germany . I still visit about every 5 years since I now live in Las Vegas , NV and have a few friends and family in the area . It was a great town to grow up in during the 70's and 80's , but sadly the factories closed and people moved away . We were a close community and I know lots of people miss that . That is why we have such great memories of growing up here . When we were kids , we all couldn't wait to get out of this small town , but now we realize what we had was special .
Bennettsville , South Carolina is located in Marlboro County on the North Carolina and South Carolina state line , just south of Laurinburg , NC in Scotland County . It is about 2 hours from Charlotte , North Carolina and an hour and a half from Myrtle Beach , South Carolina . It is centrally located in the state , so not far from the beach or the Blue Ridge Mountains , Ashville , Maggie Valley , Chimney Rock or as we call it the Great Smoky Mountains . Also only a couple hours from Charleston , SC . Lots of festivals throughout the year in the surrounding areas and Southern Hospitality .

Memories of Bennettsville , South Carolina
Bennettsville , South Carolina as I remember growing up there from 1967 to 1985 when I went into the Army. Small town living with neighbors who were like family. Bennettsville is in Marlboro County and the Courthouse has had several changes due to fires and such . We all remember the beautiful mural that was painted by Tom Goforth of the old Courthouse . Lots of businesses have since left our once great little town to include Emerson Electric , Essex Wire , Hanes , and so on . Growing up drinking Blenheim Ginger Ale , eating Stanton's Bbq , going to Dairy Dream for a footlong hot dog and chocolate dip ice cream cone , Tastee Freeze , Hardee's , Herb's Steakhouse , etc . I worked at McDonald's in high school with many of my friends and it was a fun place to work .
My first job was at Rose's Department Store till the tornado of 1984 destroyed it and the businesses around it . I was in the store when it hit . I had only worked there for about 2 weeks ! Driving around Lake Paul Wallace as a kid on my bicycle , then motorcycle and car . Hanging out with friends at the boat landing , Jack's Island , Kress Parking lot and such . Small town living . I hope everyone enjoys the memories and be sure to leave any comments with your memories and businesses not mentioned. Bennettsville , SC

Stanton's Bar-B-Que and Fish Camp - Bennettsville , South Carolina
How about a Bar-B-Que restaurant that has it's own air strip . That's right , Stanton's is a Fly In and Drive in Bar-B-Que and Fish Camp that serves great Southern Cuisine . Located in Bennettsville , South Carolina since 1972 . Come in and enjoy ! Bennettsville , SC is located in Marlboro County on the boarder of North Carolina and South Carolina . Stanton's Barbecue does tradition whole hog barbeque with a vinegar based bbq sauce . I recommend if you do the pulled pork sandwich to top it off with cole slaw . The onion rings are really good too and they make fresh homemade pies . They also sell fried fish like flounder .

Pine Acres Lodge in Laurinburg , North Carolina in business since the 1950's
Are you looking for a clean , inexpensive , and family owned place to stay while traveling the Carolinas ? Well check out Pine Acres Lodge in Laurinburg , North Carolina . Laurinburg , NC is located in Scotland County on the boarder of North and South Carolina . It is where I recommend staying if you are in the area or around Bennettsville , South Carolina in Marlboro County .
From what I can find on the web it looks like it opened in the 1950's . Of course it has been remodeled over the years and the last time I was there it looked like all the roofs were brand new . The rooms are nothing fancy , but clean with a mini refrigerator , microwave , hair dryer mounted on the wall , heat lamps in the bathroom , cold air conditioning , satellite TV , and other amenities . The grounds are beautiful with lots of green grass and tall pine trees giving lots of shade . There is a pool and picnic tables around the area . Outside of the rooms are chairs so you can sit out and get some fresh air .
Their is also washer and dryers available to catch up on your laundry , ice machines , and vending machines . The decor is old style like out of the 70's , but the furniture is actually new , just not fancy modern style . If you want something like that , there are several chain hotels to stay at in Laurinburg , but they will cost you twice as much to stay there . I would rather save my money for some good Southern Food in the area .
Smithfield's Bbq is a short drive away and has some great Pulled Pork Sandwiches and fantastic Fried Chicken . Biscuitville makes homemade fresh biscuits every morning and you can watch the lady in the window making them . Bojangle's Chicken is a chain like Popeye's and the Spicy Chicken Biscuit will knock your socks off and they sell Cheerwine out of the fountain which is a North Carolina brand soda that is a local favorite . Captain Larry's Seafood and Steaks is a local favorite and they even have an Elvis impersonator that sings there sometimes . Miyako Japanese Cuisine is the place to go if you are looking for Asian cuisine .
Laurinburg is an hour and a half from Charlotte , N.C. and two hours from Myrtle Beach , S.C. It is off the 15-401 and U.S. 74 highways . It is also an hour from Fayetteville , NC or Ft. Bragg , N.C. If you are on your way to see the NASCAR races in Darlington , South Carolina it is an hour drive from there also . It is 17 miles away from my hometown of Bennettsville , South Carolina .
When you are visiting the Carolinas be sure to pick up some Blenheim Ginger Ale Hot ! It is a South Carolina favorite that has been around for years . They sell it in Laurinburg at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store . They also sell the Diet and Mild , but the Hot is the way to go . Cheerwine is a North Carolina soda to try also . Hardee's is a good place for breakfast biscuits too . The Country Fried Steak Biscuit and the Country Ham and Egg Biscuits are tops on my list and I always get them when I visit the Carolinas . They don't serve either one of these biscuits at Carl's Jr in Las Vegas where I live now even though they are owned by the same company .
Thanks for watching and be sure to Like the Video , Subscribe , and Share with your Friends !

South Carolina State House
The South Carolina State House is the building housing the government of the U.S. state of South Carolina, which includes the South Carolina General Assembly and the offices of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina. Located in the capital city of Columbia near the corner of Gervais and Assembly Streets, the building also housed the Supreme Court until 1971.
The State House is in the Greek Revival style; it is approximately 180 feet (55 m) tall, 300 feet (91 m) long, 100 feet (30 m) wide. It weighs more than 70,000 short tons (64,000 t) and has 130,673 square feet (12,140 m2) of space.
Construction began in 1851, slowed during the Civil War, and was suspended in 1865 as General W.T. Sherman's U.S. Army entered Columbia on February 17. Several public buildings were put to the torch when United States troops entered the city.
The new capitol building, under construction, was damaged by artillery shells. The old capitol building was set afire by U.S. Army troops under Sherman's command.
The reconstruction era poverty slowed progress. The building's main structure was finally completed in 1875.
The building's grounds are home to several monuments. On the north side, leading to the main entry, is the Confederate Monument which included a flagpole flying a traditional version of the Confederate battle flag until it was removed on July 10, 2015 by State Bill. The monument was established after a controversy during the state's 2000 presidential primary about the Confederate flag flying over the dome of the State House. The flag was originally placed over the dome in 1962 by a concurrent resolution of the state legislature during the commemoration of the Civil War centennial. The resolution failed to designate a time for its removal. The flag was moved near the monument on July 1, 2000, after passage of the South Carolina Heritage Act of 2000. It was then removed from the grounds on July 10, 2015 by order of Republican governor Nikki Haley, and given to the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room & Military Museum.
On the east side is the African-American History Monument, authorized by Act 457 of the General Assembly and unveiled on March 26, 2001.
A memorial to the women of the Confederacy.
A statue of Strom Thurmond.
