CHINATOWN

At the heart of Kuala Lumpur is an area which never sleeps, and far more colourful and bustling than its bigger and more glamourous neighbours, KLCC & Bukit Bintang. Chinatown, based in Petaling Street, is also known as 'Chee Cheong Kai' (Starch Factory Street), a reference to its roots as a tapioca-producing district. Deeply immersed in Oriental culture, heritage and history, Chinatown is undoubtedly one of the most popular tourist spots in Malaysia.
Chinatown is also a well-known bargain hunter’s paradise, a place where you can find all sorts of stuff from Chinese herbs to imitation goods. At night, its main market area, Petaling Street, transforms into a lively and vibrant night market, filled with hundreds of stalls offering all kinds of goods at dirt-cheap prices, and the best thing is, the prices can be brought lower still as haggling is the way of life here.

Melaka (Malacca) City, Malaysia - Jonker Street, Chinatown, Riverwalk

Melaka City (also spelled Malacca) is the capital of the coastal state of Malacca, in southwestern Malaysia. At its center, Jonker Street, Chinatown’s main thoroughfare, is known for antique shops and its night market. Nearby, the 17th-century Chinese Cheng Hoon Teng temple has ornate decorations and multiple prayer halls. A green, 3-tiered roof tops the 18th-century, Javanese-influenced Kampung Kling Mosque. - Google

The Majestic Hotel Malacca Melaka UNESCO World Heritage Site YTL Small Luxury Hotels SLH

This is taken in early December 2020 just after the inter-state travel is allowed.

The Majestic Malacca always retains a warm charm on arrival. The staff is always top notch friendly and will attend to the slightest request at a moment.

The old mansion is used as the main area for activities - tea time, reading room, the bar and the top floor is the Mansion dining.

A few notables:
1. Arrival snacks and lychee black tea! There is a tinge of lychee sweetness that does not overpower the tea. Just nice for an arrival refreshment.
2. The bar serves the famous Tanqueray Malacca Gin. There is also a self service mixer bar to make your own Malacca Collin with an instruction card.
3. Tea time - the only Nyonya style tea time in the world.
4. The Library is a cosy reading are and for tea. There are only 2 areas for seating. So book first if you want to enjoy tea in better privacy.

The parking is at the right side of the hotel as you enter. However you need to circle back one round and look out for a sign just as you see Lee Seafood Restaurant. It is BEFORE the restaurant. My suggestion, go to the car park as you arrive and not straight to the lobby. There is a small connecting walkway from the car park to the hotel.

Location (I use the car park since this is harder to find):

Attap Roof Weaving

Originating from Kuala Kubu Bharu dam, the 110-kilometres-long and winding Selangor River flows through Kuala Selangor into the sea. Under the blazing sun, on the riverpath along Kampung Kuantan in Kuala Selangor, Uncle Jamaluddin bin Zakaria could be seen paddling a small sampan against the tides, slowly approaching the stifling mangrove forests, starting his day’s gathering job.

Two types of palm tree leaves are usually gathered by Uncle Jamal: Daun Nipah and Daun Sagu/Rumbia. Nipah leaves, also known as Attap leaves, are gathered from Nipah trees which grow in humid swamps, measuring 2-3 inches in width and a few feet in length. Also from the palm family, Sagu trees grow on the shores, with tall tree trunks and narrower but thicker leaves. These two types of leaves are local roofing materials gathered by Malay forefathers. Having good air permeability as well as dispelling heat, attap roofs are suitable for the equatorial climate, commonly used within Malaysian communities.
