Explore Southern Zimbabwe
Southern Zimbabwe stretches along the border with South Africa, and Beitbridge – the busiest border post in southern Africa – is a main entrance point for self-drivers to Zimbabwe.
Most destinations in the south are easily accessible for self-drivers: in the west, the pleasant town of Bulawayo and the scenic rock-art-filled Matobo National Park draw visitors, and the nearby Khami Ruins make for an interesting historical stop.

Zim Zambezi Epic, Part 2: Quarantine in Zimbabwe (Overlanding in Zimbabwe)
In Part 1 of our Zim Zambezi Epic, we cover our attempts to get into Zimbabwe and across Beitbridge border. Now, in Part 2, we're heading to our quarantine location (with a little more drama on the way) to spend 10 days in quarantine on the shores of Lake Kariba. I can think of worse ways to have to spend a COVID quarantine.
The journey to Maabwe is not entirely smooth and easy, but the prize ahead of us promises great fishing, excellent birding, lots of hydrating, and even some relaxing.
Maabwe Bay campsite review:
Next time on the Zim Zambezi Epic, we try to escape quarantine so we can head to Chizarira National Park, one of the most remote parks in Zimbabwe.

Zim Zambezi Epic, Part 8: One Last Destination, Matobo, and then the End? (Overlanding in Zimbabwe)
The final chapter for Zimbabwe! Or is it?
In Part 8 of the #ZimZambeziEpic, we head to Bulawayo for some PCR administrative border crossing requirements, AND to Matobo National Park (formerly Rhodes Matopos NP), before starting the long trek home to South Africa, and Johannesburg. Border fun? You betcha. What is Beit Bridge without it?
In Part 1 of our Zim Zambezi Epic, we cover our attempts to get into Zimbabwe and across Beitbridge border. In Part 2, we spend 10 days in quarantine on the shores of Lake Kariba at Maabwe Camp. In Part 3, we get to officially move on to our first Zimparks destination, Chizarira National Park. In Part 4, we attempted the difficult task of getting into Matusadona National Park (and to Tashinga Camp) by road in the rainy season. In Part 5, we head to the border town of Chirundu, for a stay on the lower Zambezi rive and some tiger fishing. In Part 6 of our overlanding trip through Zimbabwe, we learn what it's REALLY like to spend time in an unfenced camp in the real wild. In Part 7 of our journey, we head to one of our most anticipated destinations, Hwange National Park. That is, after a brief sidetrack to visit family in Gweru. Does Hwange make for a good safari and overlanding destination in the rainy season?
Next epic ... BOTSWANA! We're calling it the Big Botswana Baecation.
