A good reason to get out in the bad weather.. double headed Class 40's on the mainline, when was the last time that happened? Haughmond Abbey and Mysterious Sundorne Castle - Shrewsbury History in Slides
Haughmond Abbey and Mysterious Sundorne Castle.
We inform viewers about the historic former Augustinian abbey at Haughmond Hill, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, it was extended in the 13th and 14th centuries.
Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries part of it was converted into a mansion, and after the Civil War (1642–1651), it became a farm.
Only ruins remain, the most substantial parts being parts of the infirmary and the abbot's lodging, the latter with a large three-sided bay window. Only the foundation stones of the church have survived.
Other remains include part of the cloister walls, three arches from the chapter house, and three chimneys from the kitchen.
From Haughmond Abbey, not far away downhill toward the outskirts of Shrewsbury some people are intrigued to see another castle.
Sundorne Castle, a more modern country house that has been demolished.
It looks mysterious to many onlookers because a number of structures associated with the house have survived.
Other listed buildings include houses, cottages, farmhouses and farm buildings, in the nearby village of in Uffington, Shropshire.
The earliest of these are timber framed, there's also a pump in an enclosure, and a church.

SHROPSHIRE HILLS The View From Earl's Hill, Pontesbury
Whilst only reaching 320m (1050ft) above sea level Earl' Hill and the adjoining Pontesford Hill stand out in the landscape, particularly from the north and west as they herald The Shropshire Hills
Most usually ramblers will start the walk from Pontesford, where there is ample free parking to be found
From the car park there are a couple of routes to the top. Probably the most oft-used one is the more direct route. This is steep though, and will for most everyone necessitate a few stops to catch your breath. I would advise skirting around the north-westerly side for 1/4 mile or so before heading upwards in an easterly direction (it's easily picked out in a clearing from the woods). I believe this is called the bulldozer route locally - it certainly offers better views as you ascend
Earl's Hill (in common with most of Shropshire's other high hills proved attractive to Iron Age settlers who built a well-defended hill fort at the summit of Earl's Hill in around 600BC. There's another on the lower slopes on Pontesford Hill. In the 1960s these hills became Shropshire Wildlife Trust's first nature reserve
Popularised by the Shropshire writer Mary Webb, the twin hills are at the centre of the legend of the golden arrow Spposedly, back in the 7th Century when this was a highly disputed area, the kings of Mercia and Wessex did battle here. Carelessly, one of them had a golden arrow that he left lying around somewhere and lost. Since then, just about everyone else has been looking for it
Wiki = 'Earls Hill is the site of an Iron Age hillfort built around 600 B.C. and making it a Scheduled Ancient Monument and also designated an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) for its wildlife value. It was Shropshire Wildlife Trust's first nature reserve in 1964
Earls Hill is Pre-Cambrian in origin, being formed approximately 650 million years ago as a result of volcanic activity along the Pontesford-Linley fault'

Shrewsbury Quarry And A Stroll Along The River Severn in 4K 60fps
Welcome to our stunning 4K walk along the River Severn in England. Join us as we take a leisurely stroll from the English Bridge to the Welsh Bridge, enjoying the picturesque views and serene atmosphere along the way. As we start our walk, we cross the English Bridge and make our way along the riverbank, taking in the beautiful scenery of the English countryside. The lush greenery, the gentle flow of the river, and the chirping of birds create a peaceful ambiance that is perfect for a relaxing walk.
As we continue our journey, we approach the quarry which is the main recreational park in Shrewsbury, England, created in 1719 and encompassing 29 acres. It is open to the general public 24 hours a day throughout the year, including most public holidays. The park is listed Grade II in Historic England's Register of Parks and Gardens. It is located within easy walking distance of Shrewsbury town center, Shrewsbury Sixth Form College, and Shrewsbury School. The park is encircled by the majestic loop of the River Severn. The Quarry is Shrewsbury's most important site and is the most heavily used public park within the county. The facility is maintained to high standards required for such a high-profile area. The park has a bandstand that was built in 1879 and donated to the park by the Shropshire Horticultural Society. The bandstand is used by military bands during Shrewsbury events. The park also has a garden called the Dingle, which is said to be haunted by the ghost of Mrs. Foxall, a local woman who was burnt at the stake nearby in the sixteenth century as punishment for witchcraft and murder.
Finally, we reach the Welsh Bridge, where we conclude our walk. The Welsh Bridge is a historic structure that has stood the test of time, and it offers a perfect vantage point to admire the beauty of the River Severn. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this 4K walk along the River Severn, as we take you on a journey through some of the most beautiful scenery in England.
