DIPHU: The 47th edition of Karbi Youth Festival (KYF) got underway on Monday at Karbi People's Hall, Taralangso in Karbi Anglong district. It will conclude on February 19.

The Karbi Youth Festival is said to be one of the largest and oldest ethnic festivals in Northeast India. The cultural troupes from artistes' camps performed the Rongketong (cultural procession) and proceeded to the festival ground with the beating of traditional drums, playing of traditional instruments and dancing. The dancers from different zones in their traditional dresses came to the venue for the inauguration from their respective camps inside the Hemphu Mukrang Achetai ground.
Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) CEM Tuliram Ronghang formally inaugurated the festival. The event has been organized by the Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) and earlier, KCS president Chandra Sing Kro hoisted the KCS flag in presence of general secretary Bidya Sing Rongpi and dignitaries.

On the inaugural day, KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang fulfilled his commitment to inaugurate the Kajir Ronghangpi Memorial Clock Tower. He also inaugurated the Nothengpi Karbi Heritage Museum in Taralangso Karbi People's Hall and the suspension bridge (hanging bridge) was also inaugurated in the premises of the Eco Park, Taralangso. The CEM also laid the foundation stone for various development projects in the presence of MP Horensing Bey and others on Tuesday. CEM Ronghang also announced that for the 47th edition of KYF, Rs 1 crore had been sanctioned.

Manja is a small town in Karbi Anglong district of Assam state of India. Manja is situated on the bank of river Chomna (Yamuna) Diphu roi, it is surrounded with beautiful blue hills. It takes 40 to 45 minutes to travel from Dimapur to Manja Tourist Park / picnic spot. Approximate driving distance between Dimapur and Manja is 38 kms
