Places to see in ( Lille - France ) Porte de Paris
Places to see in ( Lille - France ) Porte de Paris
The door of Paris is one of the doors of the old ramparts of the city of Lille . Rebuilt in the late xvii th century triumphal arch to celebrate the victories of Louis XIV , is sometimes considered a masterpiece of military art. It is classified historic building in 1875. At this site stood initially the door of the patients. This door was the southern exit of the city in the extension of the street of the sick, current street of Paris main axis of the district Saint-Sauveur .
On 28 August 1667 , after a siege of 10 days, Louis XIV entered the city through this gate and receives the Magistrate Lille the keys of the city. A year later, at the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle , Lille became French. Louis XIV testifies a certain interest for the city and orders to the architect Simon Vollant the construction of the Paris door to replace the door of the patients. It is built from 1685 to 1692 , in memory of the annexation of Lille to France.
Its structure has two different facades, the entrance and the exit of the city. A vaulted corridor on the ground floor of the door with its drawbridge allowed access to the city time of the fortifications. In frontage, entering the city, the arc appears composed of three parts: a central part and two wings adorned each one by a mythological figure framed by two columns of Doric style. The massiveness of this door evokes the military rigor. This aspect is due in particular to the small size of the opening of the door which is accessed by the drawbridge , all still playing at the time a defensive role, which makes him consider one of the last masterpieces of military history .
In the central part, above the vaulted corridor, one can observe the sculpted coat of arms of the city of Lille and just above the royal escutcheon ; but 32 meters higher, the baroque figures of its summit, including two angels, two allegories of the Renommée ringing the victory of Louis XIV, suggest the pomp of the court. In the center of the ridge, the allegory of Victory is represented in the middle of flags, his right arm raised, ready to deposit a crown on the head of the Sun King, Louis XIV. To the left of the central part is Mars , the god of war; on the right, Hercules , symbol of strength.
The Paris gate is surrounded by a stone parapet on which are cast iron grenades (or bombs) since 1895 according to the photographs of time. Time and vandalism have severely deteriorated these warrior decorations. As part of the restoration of the door for the operation Lille 2004 (European Capital of Culture) , the restoration of Grenades is entrusted to the foundry department of the Ecole des Arts et Métiers ParisTech , a specialist in cast iron art .

Lille is the capital of the Hauts-de-France region in northern France, near the border with Belgium. A cultural hub and bustling university city today, it was once an important merchant center of French Flanders, and many Flemish influences remain. The historic center, Vieux Lille, is characterized by 17th-century brick town houses, cobbled pedestrian streets and the large central square, Grand Place.
Lille is France's fifth largest metropolitan area and fourth urban area. It is located to the country's north, on the Deûle River, near the border with Belgium. The whole metropolitan area of Lille, both on French and Belgian territory (Courtray, Tournai) was estimated in 2007 at around 1,885,000 inhabitants, ranking as one of the major metropolitan areas of Europe.
Lille has a very nice city centre, excellently suited for a city trip. Most of the sights can be combined in a walking tour. Alot to see such as :
La Vieille Bourse (1653). Right between two picturesque squares, Place du Général-de-Gaulle and Place du Théâtre, this former commercial exchange still plays a central part in the life of the city. You may find booksellers and flower markets in the inner court. The main square, Place du Général-de-Gaulle, better known as the Grand'place, has many lovely historic houses, like the neo-Flemish headquarters of local newspaper La Voix du Nord, and a fountain with the statue of a goddess, la Grande Déesse (1843). Place Rihour, surrounded by restaurants, houses the tourist information centre inside its main attraction, the Palais Rihour (1453). The town hall is worth a look and can be combined nicely with a visit to the Porte de Paris (1692). The Opera (1923) and the Chamber of Commerce (1921) are located close together and offer magnificent sights, especially when lit-up at night. Take a stroll through the old quarter of the city, known as Vieux Lille, and enjoy the quiet, cobble-stone streets, the variety of stylish designer shops, gourmet restaurants, and the modern Cathédrale Notre Dame de la Treille. More notable streets like Rue de la Monnaie and Rue Esquermoise are definitely worth the trip. A bit farther from the city centre is la Citadelle, an interesting example of defensive military architecture, built by Vauban, a famous French military architect, under the reign of Louis the Fourteenth. In the same area is a zoo (free of charge) and a lovely park. Musée des Beaux-Arts, a famed museum covering European art from 15th - 20th century. Museum of Natural History, a large collection of stuffed mammals, insects, fossils, etc. Musée de l'Hospice Comtesse, a former hospital now presenting art. Musée d'Art et d' Industrie de Roubaix : La Piscine, a 20th century art museum hosted in a beautiful Art déco (start of 20th century) former swimming pool. LAM - Lille Art Modern Museum, modern art, outsider art, contemporary art. The open market, Marché de Wazemmes La Braderie

Welcome to another Berlin Walking Tour! This time we will take a walk around some of the most famous places of the city. You will see the Spree River, busy James-Simon Park, which is close to Hackescher Markt, and the historic heart of Berlin: The Museum Island, one of the most visited sights of Germany's capital. This tour ends in front of the Berlin Cathedral. As Museum Island includes all of Spree Island north of the Unter den Linden, the Berliner Dom is also located here, near the Lustgarten. To the south, the reconstructed Berlin Palace houses the Humboldt Forum museum and opened in 2020. Since German reunification, the Museum Island has been rebuilt and extended according to a master plan. In 2019, a new visitor center and art gallery, the James Simon Gallery, was opened. James Simon Park is located in Berlin's Mitte district of the same name. It is named after the Berlin entrepreneur James Simon. The protected green area is located in a popular nightlife and strolling district of Berlin-Mitte. With 3.9 Million inhabitants Berlin is the most populous city of the European Union. It is surrounded by the state of Brandenburg, and contiguous with Potsdam, Brandenburg's capital. BERLIN - Germany 🇩🇪 4K Walking Tour | Iphone 15 Pro 📹 Berlin is getting cold and windy 🥶
This walking video was recorded in 4k in Berlin, the capital of Germany 🇩🇪 Berlin is the capital and a state of the Federal Republic of Germany. With about 3.7 million inhabitants, the city is the most populous and, with 892 square kilometers, the largest municipality in Germany, as well as the most populous city in the European Union. The city has the third highest population density in Germany with 4108 inhabitants per square kilometer. Nearly 4.7 million inhabitants live in the Berlin agglomeration, and about 6.2 million in the Berlin-Brandenburg capital region.
Berlin is considered a world city of culture, politics, media and science. The local universities and research institutions, local sports and museums enjoy an international reputation. The metropolis holds the UNESCO title of City of Design and is one of the continent's most visited centers. Its architecture, festivities and nightlife are world-renowned.
After the end of World War II, the city was subject to a four-power status in 1945; East Berlin functioned as the capital of the socialist German Democratic Republic from 1949, while West Berlin was closely aligned with the liberal-democratic Federal Republic. With the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and German reunification in 1990, the two halves of the city grew together again and Berlin regained its role as the all-German capital. Since 1999, the city has been the seat of the Federal Government, the Federal President, the German Bundestag, the Bundesrat, as well as most federal ministries, numerous federal agencies and embassies.
