Bahia Honda State Park is the BEST BEACH in the Florida Keys!
Our super fun trip to the Florida Keys is coming to an end. On our last day, we head out of Key West, stopping at the beautiful beaches of Bahia Honda State Park. We then stop in Key Largo to see the African Queen boat and in Homestead for Cuban sandwiches, before heading home. First time in Florida Keys was a success!

Although Miami is the second most populous city in Florida, the Miami metropolitan area is the largest in the state. Due to being sandwiched in by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Everglades wetland area to the west, the Miami metropolitan area is a lengthy 110 miles (180km) north to south, but never more than 20 miles (32km) east to west.
History Flagler’s railroad sparked a wave of expansion in areas such as Miami Beach, Homestead and Cutler. Soon after the railroad was built, the Overseas Highway was created. This highway connected the Florida Keys to the mainland. Growth and progress in Miami continued through World War I as well as into the mid-1920s.
A devastating hurricane in 1926 halted Miami’s growth and temporarily put the city, as well as Miami Beach, in a recession. It was the city’s support of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal that helped the city rebuild. Roosevelt almost lost his life, however, when Giuseppe Zangara attempted to assassinate Roosevelt when he came to Miami to thank the city for its support of the New Deal.
When a German U-boat sank a US tanker off Florida’s coast, the majority of South Florida was converted into military headquarters for the remainder of World War II. Bahia Honda State Park Campground Tour, Florida Keys 4K
Before we were RV living full time, we only spent a couple days at Bahia Honda State Park in the Keys compared to the 10 days we spent at Curry Hammock State Park in the Florida Winter of 2019. Now that we are RV Living Full Time, we hope to go back next winter for longer.Lots of trails for your RV dogs but not on the beach. [ tour of that campground]. But it was still amazing.

Animal Attractions:
The Dolphin Research Center See Sea Lions and Dolphins train, swim, feed, and play. You can get your picture with a Dolphin and even swim with them. Bring Fido, the dolphins will pay more attention to you.
Robbie's- Feed the Tarpon 1:48 Yes, it is a bit touristy and totally for profit, but to see these huge Tarpon up close and witness them open their mouths wide open is quite a sight. Stay for the food and drinks or shop for some essential Keys wear, it is still a Must See and Do. They do other activities too. Bring your dogs and you may get free bait fish- dogs help keep the annoying pelicans at bay. @RobbiesIslamorada
The Turtle Hospital this is another nonprofit whose purpose to help save the wildlife of The Keys- the Sea Turtles. With their time and research, we all hope they will find a cure for the virus that is causing the death of so many turtles. Register for the tour- it is required. Don't bring your dogs- it is better for the patients.

Dog Beaches Florida state parks often do not allow dogs on the beach, so you need to venture elsewhere
Bahia Honda State Park- beach walks and famous old bridge Camp along the water, walk the long beaches, and walk on the old bridge for that special view. Staying or visiting is a Must See and Do in the Keys
Campground tour-
Key West: 10:23 Too much to list- see the famous bars, ride the trolley, eat Key Lome Pie on a stick, see the roosters, ride your bikes, see Southern Most Point & Mile Marker 0, Hemingway House, Mel Fisher's Museum, on and on. Of course Mallory Square for sunsets & sailboats. Easier w/out dogs- shhh
