10 Best Places to Visit in Romania - Travel Video

Check out all the places seen in this video:

Located on the Balkan Peninsula, Romania is a country of contrasts. The former Soviet Bloc country has, over the years, belonged to the Romans who gave the country its name, the Hungarians and the Ottomans. It is filled with quaint old towns, mountain resorts that offer great skiing, and a burgeoning art community. It’s most famous citizen, however, may be the vampire Dracula, a fictional character found in Transylvania. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in Romania:

You must visit Orsova, Romania. It is a hidden gem!

See the full article:

Hi everybody! Guess where we are now? Ha ha, we got absolutely inspired by Bulgaria. So this morning without planning so much, we just took the bridge that connects Bulgaria (Vidin) to Romania (Calafat) and we crossed it! We are in Romania, guys!

What to do in Orșova?
Orșova is ancient and full of history. It seemed to us a quiet and nice city to relax in. Most sites on the Internet consider it only as a starting point to enjoy the surroundings but barely talk about Orșova itself.

In our opinion, Orșova can be a nice stop for a day trip or for relaxing for a complete weekend. You can easily spend a day here and explore the surroundings the very next day or vice versa. There’s accommodation available in the city and it’s cheaper than the one you can get in the surroundings (along the Danube). The city has a quiet vibe that for sure gets a bit more vibrant and noisy during the high season.

The attractions in the city that we enjoyed the most were the promenade and the park.

Chipuil Lui Decebal or the Face of Decebalus.
Yes, guys! We got it! Finally, we managed to reach our original goal and it felt very nice. The head is impressive just like the landscape that frames it. The view can’t be better, the Danube plus the Carpathian Mountains, and the carved face on the rock of Decebalus.

The creation of the head was Iosif Constantin Dragan’s idea. He directly financed it and Florin Cotarcea was the artist who made it. It’s 25 meters wide and 40.5 meters high, and it’s located close to the Mraconia Bay, 18 kilometers away from Orșova. Check your map and it’s between Eșelnița and Dubova. Something we discovered is that the head is not ancient like other historical treasures in the area. Its construction started in 1994 and it was finished in 2004. Yes, Florin Cotarcea worked 10 years directing the carving with the assistance of at least a dozen of climbers and a ton of dynamite for modeling. Under the head, you will see this inscription: “Decebalus

Rex – Dragan done” (king Decebalus – made by Dragan).

Decebalus was the last king of Dacia. He defended the independence of his country (the current territory of Romania) from Trajan and Domitian, both Roman emperors.

Guys, we looked long for finding the rocky face of Decebalus. When we found it we felt very happy. We visited it in daylight and at night! As we told you before, you can reach this place by boat or by car.

Pesteri, chei, cascade in Banat - Buhui, Ponor Uscata, Ochiul Beu, Beusnita, Bigar, Nerei

Everyday is a holiday
Incepand cu acst vlog vom incerca sa realizam fiecare episod atat in engleza, cat si in romana.

Astazi va invitam alaturi de noi in muntii Banatului.

Declarata de catre revista online The world geography ca fiind ocupanta primului loc in topul mondial

Asteptam parerile voastre referitor la continuarea vlogului nostru in limba romana, engleza sau in ambele.

(ENGLISH)- Caves, canyons & waterfalls in Banat, Romania (Buhui, Beusnita, Beu, Bigar, Nerei)

We spent 2 marvellous days in the Aninei Mountains in SV Romania. The limestone mountains are a symphony of gorges, waterfalls and caves. On the first day we had a 5-hour adventure in Buhui, the biggest cave around. Upscreen you have the link to the vlog we filmed there.

Next day, next cave- only 30 min away is the little but cozy Ponor Uscata cave, easily to visit.

One hour drive away from there is the Nature Park Cheile Nerei-Beusnita. Beside the Nerei gorge, you can find here another wonders of nature: The ochiul Beu karst lake and the Beusnitei waterfalls.

The Ochiul Beu lake contains low concentrations of algae and other substances, resulting in high clarity and a deep blue color which generated a lot of legends- involving turkish warriors and romanian princesses. I, on the other hand, am following my princess on the way to the Beusnita waterfalls. There are 3 bigges falls and several little ones, but due to our lack of time we will walk today only to the biggest one.

The Nerei Gorges are 20 km long and in spring they are perfect for a class 1 rafting. And the Devil's lake in the middle of the gorge is marvellous. Here some images from the movie we made a few years ago.

Not far away one can find the famous Bigar waterfall, somehow surprisingly labeld as the most original waterfall in the world by a famous internet magazine.

Caraș Gorges, Anina Mountains and landscapes from Semenic Mountains, Romania

19 km long and up to 200 m deep, the gorges are cut in a relatively low and flat limestone plateau by Caraș River, creating one of the finest canyons in Romania, with almost vertical walls covered in thick vegetation, on which no less than 500 caves are found. The gorges have a very meandrous course, with countless turns of the river on one or another side, as you can see on the map.

Caraș Gorges and surrounding area was declared a national reserve and together with Izvoarele Nerei primordial forest is one of the two main features of Semenic - Caraș Gorges National Park. Situated in Semenic and Anina Mountains, the specific of this park is the lush vegetation, the great biodiversity and high quality of primeval ecosystems. There have been identified 1,086 plant species and there is a rich & healthy population of carnivores: bear, fox, lynx, otter, marten, badger, wildcat, but also wild pigs, carpathian deer, deer, birds: golden eagle, peregrine falcon, common buzzard, red kite, white-throated dipper and northern goshawk.

The oldest railway in SE Europe (Oravita to Anina train ride in Romania) SCENIC train ride

#Romania #TrainRide #Railway
Because I was off to a late start, I had to drive fast to get to Oravita in one hour (before 11 15 am) to catch the train ride on the oldest and most spectacular train ride in SE Europe.
If there's enough time, get the tickets from the station (there should be an open office somewhere) or just hop on and you will be able to buy your tickets from the conductor.
The ticket for the train ride from Oravita to Anina, the oldest railway in SE Europe, is only 13.9 lei (~2.7 Eur), each way.

The Famous Oravita – Anina Train Route

Seams & Chronicles, Episode 15

Hello my dears! With much delight, I am bringing you, with me, on the famous train route Oravița - Anina - Oravița. I managed to get a seat on the last minute and a good angle to film through the forest. I am grateful that one of the train conductors put me in contact with Mr. Georgian Popovici who happily provided me with a few photographs and a video taken by him. The views are spectacular and you can see the full clip here:

Episode edit: Nani Ion

The Oravita-Anina railway is the oldest one in Romania, and its located only 110km away from Timisoara. Often referred to as The Semmering of Banat, a trip on this railway is packed with superb mountain sceneries, and it passes over numerous viaducts, including the tallest one in Romania.

A short history about The Semmering of Banat

The Semmering of Banat was part of the Oravita-Anina rail line, which is the fifth railway in Romania and the first mountain railway in Southeastern Europe, completed in 1863. Often compared with the Austrian Semmering and even called the Semmering of Banat because it was built a few years later, the two have in common superb mountain sceneries and the fact that they both are great technical achievements.

The route has a length of 34 km and takes two hours to cover it because the average speed is about 17 km/h. The route is an endless landscape, conquering the beautiful Anina Mountains through 14 amazing tunnels, 10 imposing viaducts, 89 masterly bridges, 49 sustaining walls and 21 km of skillful mountain cuts. For the construction of this railroad, there were brought engineers from northern Italy who used a special mortar for joining the stones, a mortar apparently similar to that used by the Romans.

At least, on account of this mortar is put the longevity and durability of this particular railroad as it has never been closed due to technical problems, only because of some occasional falling rocks. The train traveling on this route today has two carriages second class, undivided, with wooden benches, built in 1914. The indoor heating during winter is based on steam so, without a doubt, the journey is certainly very picturesque at this time of the year.

The most often used starting point of this route is Oravita railway station, the oldest train station in Romania, built in 1854, older even than Rome or Stockholm railway stations. Definitely, any train passionate or hiking lover should take this route at least once in his lifetime as Oravita-Anina is the perfect example of how man succeeded to master the mountains. The best part is that all this enormous project did not destroy the beauties of the mountains; on the contrary, it added that extra value which makes Semmering of Banat an amazing and unique destination.

#travel #train #romania #banat #oravita #anina #hailadrum

A trip on the most difficult national road in Banat region, S-W Romania.
00:12 - 04:20 Going across Anina, a former mining town located in the Anina Mountains.

05:48 - 09:40 Driving through dense forest, the road has many sharp turns so that we can barely reach a maximum speed of 60 kmh.

09:42 Again in open space, with great view over the surrounding hills.

10:40 -13:48 Descending from Anina Mountains to Caraşova, a village located along the valley of Caraş river.

14:00 - 18:18 Crossing the Pateşan Hill, which separates Caraşova and Reşiţa.

19:40 Entering Reşiţa, the capital of Caraş-Severin County.

Vlogging with a drone in a cave: Pestera Buhui, Romania

Buhui cave is with its length of almost 7,5 km the biggest cave in Banat, the picturescue region in SV Romania, near the town of Anina, close to the border with Serbia.

The team:

MIHAI BOCHIS
VALENTIN MEREU
ADRIAN & ALECSANDRA

Even if the cavern is not closed with gates, please do not visit it on your own. It can be potentially dangerous to unexperienced tourists. There are a lot of speleological clubs in Romania who are ready to assist you in visiting this cave.

We are here today with our collegues from Nouveautect, a new founded speleological organisation from Timisoara.

The Buhui cave is the creation of the small river with the same name, which penetrates a limestone mountain. The underground river follows the 2.7km long main gallery which can be accesed through 3 entrances. We are entering through the exit of the underground river and will visit only the most spectacular last third of the cave.

In order to visit this cave you will need a neoprene wet suit and a boat. The air temperature doesn't exceed 10 degrees C and the water is very cold.

The main gallery shows waterfalls and deep marmites. Welcome to an amazing underground adventure park where you have to climb, duck, crawl and swim.

There are some big obstacles in our way, and the first one is the so-called Cascada mica, or Small Waterfall

The most amazing section of the cave is the Vasile Sencu gallery with the Bears hall. The area is a natural monument and is under protection by law.

The fossil gallery, is an upper evel of the cave and the speleothems here are astonishing.

Stalactites and stalagmites, in theory over tens of thousands of years old and Bones of the extinct cave bear (Ursus Speleaus) are all over the place. Scientists say that the cave bear became extinct about 25,000 years ago during the Last Glacial Maximum.

Another eyecatcher is the Haystack, a huge limesone stalagmitic formation arguably considered to be the biggest of its kind in Romania.

The view is so extraordinary that even our drone was lost in admiration and could not find the best settings for low light :)

From the fossil gallery back to the underground river you are being put to test as a climber..or you can just slide down a rock slide tobbogan.

It's already night when we are leavin the cave through its 2nd entrance.

Calea ferata Oravita - Anina

Muzica: Vali Rotari - ”Just A Question”
Construita in timpul Imperiului Austriac, reprezintă un monument cultural unic in România precum şi o realizare tehnică deosebită.
