In this video, I take you to Andijan, the birthday of Babur - the Founder and first ruler of the Mughal Empire. A great leader in his own right, Babur is the descendant of the great Timur on his father's side and of Genghis Khan on his mother's side. Andijan is a 2500 year old city in the Fergana Valley of Uzbekistan usually overlooked by tourists. Since the days of the USSR, it's been a production powerhouse in Uzbekistan. It is home to one of the most beautiful mosques in the entire world - the Devonaboy Mosque. While the world knows Uzbekistan for its signature dish Plov, the best variety according to Uzbeks is the one from Andijan.
Uzbekistan (Oʻzbekiston) is a lovely ex-USSR country located in Central Asia. Its official language is Uzbek (although the majority of the population also speaks Russian).
Neighboring states: in the east - Kyrgyzstan; in the northeast, north and northwest - Kazakhstan; in the southwest and south - Turkmenistan; in the south - Afghanistan; and in the southeast - Tajikistan.

Uzbekistan - a Bazaar Place to go with kids!
This leg follows the second week of our travels in Uzbekistan. We visited the cities of Bukhara, Samarkand, Tashkent, and Andijan. We saw some amazing Islamic architecture and got a feel for real life in Uzbek.
Check out the next video when we move on to Kyrgyzstan. In Kyrgyzstan we will be doing some community-based-tourism; staying with locals, hiking and horseback riding. We'll be doing this for 2 weeks before we head back into China.

Uzbekistan travel day one - Arriving in Andijan after crossing the border
My Uzbekistan travel day one started after crossing the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border at the Dostuk checkpoint close to the city of Osh in Kyrgyzstan. I finally managed to step into the Uzbek territory after checking my passport, visa, and doing a quick security check of my belongings. From there I took a marshrutka to Andijan (or Andijon) which is the first city you are supposed to land in after the border crossing and on your way to the capital city Tashkent.

Andijan is a city and administrative center in far eastern Uzbekistan in Andijan province, is situated in the Southeast of the Ferghana Valley and is surrounded by high mountains and hills. The history of the city goes back to the 9th century AD. In ancient times the Great Silk Road passed through this town, which was known as the eastern gate of the Ferghana Valley. In the 10th century Andijan was the part of the Samanids Empire. In 1483 Zaheruddin Babur was born here, and Andijan became the capital of the Ferghana State and its major Silk Road trading center. Later Babur had to go to South and he ruled in Kabul for two decades, then in 1526 he marched into Delhi and founded the Baburids Empire in India. The dynasty of the Babur had ruled India for more than 300 years. Andijan is one of the oldest cities in the Fergana Valley. In some parts of the city, archeologists have found items dating back to the 7th and 8th centuries. Historically, Andijan was an important city on the Silk Road. During the reign of the Timurids, especially Babur, Andijan was a large and important city in the region. During that period, art and culture flourished in the city.
