Mannheim is a city in southwest Germany, on the Rhine and Neckar rivers. The baroque 18th-century Mannheim Palace houses historical exhibits, plus the University of Mannheim. In the grid-like center, called the Quadrate, Marktplatz Square features a baroque fountain with statues. Planken shopping street leads southeast to the Romanesque Water Tower, in the art nouveau gardens of Friedrichsplatz.
Situated between the Rhine and Neckar Rivers, near their confluence, Mannheim has an energetic cultural scene and decent shopping in its busy city centre, along with a landmark palace, the Barockschloss Mannheim. The city's surrounding factories and heavy industry plants (automotive, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, engineering, agricultural and construction machinery) mean this isn't Germany at its prettiest, but they are a reminder of the drivers of the German economy.
Two important transportation firsts took place in Mannheim: Karl Drais created the world’s first bicycle in 1817, and Karl Benz built the world’s first automobile to combine an internal combustion engine and integrated chassis in 1885; the three-wheeled vehicle was patented in 1886.
The center of Mannheim is laid out like a chess board, with no real street names. Addresses in the Quadrat take the form of a grid reference, such as Q3, designating a block, followed by a building number on that block, e.g., Q3, 12. Note that the streets themselves are not named, rather Q3 refers to the block itself. If you follow a street from Q3, you might end up at either Q2 or P3. It is best to navigate by following the blocks rather than the streets. If you get lost, a rather high probability, simply ask a local. They are used to it.
Mannheim was a small fishing village before it became a city at the beginning of the 17th century. It was constructed on the site of a fortress guarding the confluence of the rivers Rhine and Neckar. Even now a few remnants of the fortification can be seen, and the peculiar street layout owes to that part of its history. For 58 years, Mannheim served as a royal residence and gave Schiller, Lessing, Goethe and Mozart a home for some time. Before World War II Mannheim was a beautiful city, but was flattened in bomb raids due to its industrial significance. When it was time to rebuild the city, Mannheim, like many other German cities, opted for an all out modern approach to urban development. Thus, most of the old quarters were replaced by buildings typical of the 1950s. If you are not an adept to architecture, their appeal might not be easy to grasp. As a result, the impression is more of an industrial city with a few spots of beauty.
Modern Mannheim is the second biggest city in Baden-Württemberg and one of the hotspots of immigration. Because of that you'll encounter a lively and colorful mixture of nationalities and cultures in the city. The Mannheim/Heidelberg area hosts the largest concentration of US military personnel in Germany, and barracks are found in many of the suburbs.

Places to see in ( Mannheim - Germany ) Rosengarten Mannheim
Places to see in ( Mannheim - Germany ) Rosengarten Mannheim
Mannheimer Rosengarten is a concert hall and congress centre in Mannheim, Germany designed by German architect Bruno Schmitz. It was built between 1900 and 1903 in an Art Nouveau style, with a main hall that can accommodate up to 2,300 guests. Artists that have performed at Mannheimer Rosengarten include Sting, Simply Red and Whitesnake.
The building was built from 1900 to 1903 according to a design by the architect Bruno Schmitz by the company Joseph Hoffmann & Söhne as a municipal festival hall in the Art Nouveau style. The Nibelungen Hall was one of the largest in Germany with a capacity of 6000 seats. Wendelin Weißheimer wrote in 1904 enthusiastically about his huge success in the Giant Building. The rose garden is located on the north side of the Art Nouveau Friedrichsplatz opposite the Mannheim landmark, the Wasserturm, With its characteristic roof made of green glazed clay tiles, the rose garden shapes the cityscape as an important landmark. During the Second World War, the rose garden was heavily destroyed. The historic front building with the Musensaal has been restored on the outside.
Instead of the not reconstructed Nibelungen Hall, a modern new building was built in 1974 behind the plans of the Mannheim architect Karl Schmucker , in which the Mozart Hall is located, which has since become the largest hall. In 2006/07, the building was significantly expanded according to the plans of Andreas Schmucker, son of Karl Schmucker. The back around the building part of 1974 was rebuilt, so that the total area almost doubled.
Events such as the Annual General Meeting of the German Association of Cities , shareholders' meetings of companies such as BASF , party congressas well as large medical congresses such as the annual conference of the German Society of Cardiology contributed to the fact that the m: con Congress Center Rosengarten is one of the most successful congress centers in Germany. According to a ranking of the journal HV Magazin (as of 2016), it is the leading convention center for general meetings in Baden-Württemberg. Medical and scientific congresses are also taking place in large numbers, for example the Neurowoche, organized by the German Society for Neurology. In addition to congresses and general meetings, there are also concerts, charity and gala evenings in the Rosengarten Mannheim. The Mozartsaal in the Rosengarten is the venue for the traditional National TheaterOrchestra of the Musikalische Akademie Mannheim. The various orchestras of the SWR are also organizing their own concert series there. The Mozart Hall is also used as a guest performance by the world's major symphony orchestras. The Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz , on the other hand, performs its Mannheim concert series mainly in the Musensaal.
The Mozart Hall can accommodate up to 2,300 people. The Musensaal in the historic old building can accommodate up to 1,360 visitors, the Stamitzsaal next to about 250 people. The timber construction hall in the underground Vario hall can be divided into any size and can accommodate up to 900 people. Connected directly to the building are three underground garages with a total capacity of 1,400 parking spaces: Rose Garden underground car park (700 parking spaces), Wasserturm underground car park (450) and Dorint underground car park (250).
