#travel #netherlands #4k #4kcitylife Almelo is a municipality and a city in the eastern Netherlands. The main population centres in the town are Aadorp, Almelo, Mariaparochie, and Bornerbroek.
Almelo has about 72,000 inhabitants in the middle of the rolling countryside of Twente, with the industrial centres of Enschede and Hengelo as close neighbours but also with tourist towns like Ootmarsum, Delden and Markelo only a bicycle ride away. Almelo received city rights in 1394. Within the city limits lies the castle of the Counts of Almelo.
Located in the city centre is Huize Almelo, a castle that in its current form dates back to 1662 (This castle is not open to the public). There are mosaics which decorate the walls of the tunnel close to the railway station.
The city is also known for its local association football club Heracles Almelo, which plays in the Eerste divisie, the second highest football league in the Netherlands. The club uses the Erve Asito.

Hengelo is a small city in The Netherlands, near Germany. It used to have industry in the old days, of which you can still see the remnants of now.
The black structure is a Salt House used to get salt from the ground. The city hall is modelled after Florence, after WW2. Hengelo was heavily bombed because of its industry.

It's the easternmost city in the Netherlands and lies a few kilometres from Germany, which borders the municipality. In the west, Hengelo is the first important place. We verbleven voor een weekendje in Preston Palace in Nederland, niet ver van Almelo. We maakten van de gelegenheid gebruik om een wandelingetje en bezoekje te brengen aan deze stad. Almelo is een stad met veel gezichten en een stad met karakter. Een tikkeltje eigenzinnig, gesierd met de Twentse nuchterheid en zeer gastvrij. Almelo is een bijzondere mengeling van oud en nieuw.Almelo was ooit het bloeiend centrum van de Twentse textielindustrie. In Almelo is er altijd wat te doen ! Voor alle leeftijden is er Preston Palace; een uniek hotel en uitgaanscentrum met vele faciliteiten onder één dak. U kunt één- of meerdaagse arrangementen boeken, er is o.a. een subtropisch zwemparadijs en een indoor kermis. #Almelo #Nederland #Bertinanola

We stayed for a weekend at Preston Palace in the Netherlands, not far from Almelo. We took the opportunity to take a walk and visit this city.(28-10-2019) Almelo is a city with many faces and a city with character. A tad self-willed, adorned with the sobriety of Twente and very hospitable. Almelo was once the thriving centre of the textile industry in Twente. There's always something to do in Almelo! For all ages, there's Preston Palace; a unique hotel and entertainment centre with many facilities under one roof. You can book one-day or multi-day packages, and there is a subtropical swimming paradise and an indoor fun fair, among other things. #almelo #nederland #bertinanola
