10. Jerez de la Frontera. Definitely try and stay at the famous Hotel Casa Grande - a big old mansion with a gorgeous rooftop terrace for drinks -
9. Vera Valley. I would suggest staying in the village Valverde de la Vera and my pick is the cosy and rustic La Picota:
8. Cadaqués. I love Tramantua Hotel, a white-washed gem run by a husband and wife team… service is fantastic, and it’s right in the old city, plus near the beach:
7. Cáceres. We stayed at the budget but good Hotel Iberia Plaza Mayor with views of the square): If you want to stay IN the old city though, the Parador here is a 14th century palace - the full Caceres medieval dream!
6. Oviedo. Prices in Northern Spain are often cheaper, so you can happily get a great hotel here without spending a lot. Check out the excellent Barceló Oviedo Cervantes:
5. Zahara de los Atunes. Either go with Hotel Avenida Playa (simple, clean, and right off the beach - or the slightly more chic Hotel Doña Lola -
4. Las Alpujarras. Casa Rural la Fragua is a gorgeous little tucked away whitewashed apartment in Capileira (either stay here or in Pampaneira). This place is perfect for exploring the villages around the area.
3. El Rocío. I love Hotel La Malvasía with its old-world luxury, the fact it’s only a 5-minutes walk from the famous Santa María del Rocío church and they also have a terrace which is perfect for sunsets.
2. Mejorada del Campo. Bus info: (take the bus from Conde de Casal). Don’t spend the night there. It’s a day trip. But my favourite Madrid hotels are below (in descending price order):

New Mexico's parks are less crowded many other western parks but still have stunning scenery. On this trip we drive from South to North. Starting by exploring 3 of the least visited National Parks in the country- White Sands, Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mts..
In Alamogordo we visit New Mexico's Space History Museum and see rockets tested at the nearby missile range.
We go to one of my favorite places- 3 Rivers Petroglyphs site to hike among 20,000 ancient rock carvings and meet a blind lady in her 70 who enjoys hiking!
On the road north we go to the UFO museum in Roswell. And then walk on a Lava Field at the Valley of Fires BLM camping area, before visiting the Trinity Site.
In Albuquerque we visit the 4 sites of Petroglyph Monument including a volcano field! While looking at a map I saw a marker for Coronado State Park, so we make an unscheduled stop to see the remains an old adobe village on the Rio Grande where Spanish Conquistador Coronado once stayed- until the battle.
We make a quick stop at a stone church built in 1621. On our way to Super Volcano- or at least its remains-- Valles Caldera.
The highlight of the northern part of the trip is the cliff dwellings at Bandelier National Monument. We visit the cliff houses and see the nearby stone village.
We make a quick stop in Santa Fe and another in Taos before flying over the spectacular Rio Grande Gorge Bridge before our final stop on top of a cinder cone volcano and Capulin Volcano National Monument.

Located only an hour or so away from Santa Fe, New Mexico this is a city full of great things to do from adventurous activities like taking the third largest tram in the world- Sandia Peak Tramway, to taking in the old beside the new like staying at the modern luxurious Hotel Chaco and walking a few minutes to the Old Town Plaza Square where you can visit a church from the Spanish Colonial Days. Albuquerque is situated in the north-central part of the state, straddling the Rio Grande. The city population is 558,545 as of July 1, 2017.
Albuquerque was named in honor of Francisco Fernández de la Cueva, 10th Duke of Alburquerque who was Viceroy of New Spain from 1702 to 1711. The Duke's title referred to the Spanish town of Alburquerque, in the province of Badajoz, near the border with Portugal. The name derives from albus quercus meaning white oak in reference to the prevalence of cork oaks in the Spanish town which have a white wood when the bark is removed.
The town of Alburquerque was built in the traditional Spanish village pattern: a central plaza surrounded by government buildings, homes, and a church. This central plaza area has been preserved and is open to the public as a museum, cultural area, and center of commerce. It is referred to as Old Town Albuquerque or simply Old Town. Historically it was sometimes referred to as La Placita (little plaza in Spanish). On the north side of Old Town Plaza is San Felipe de Neri Church. Built in 1793, it is one of the oldest surviving buildings in the city.
Two Tiwa pueblos lie specifically on the outskirts of the present-day city, both of which have been continuously inhabited for many centuries: Sandia Pueblo, which was founded in the 14th century, and the Pueblo of Isleta, for which written records go back to the early 17th century.
Albuquerque was a farming community and strategically located military outpost along the Camino Real. The town was also the sheep-herding center of the West. Spain established a presidio (military garrison) in Albuquerque in 1706. After 1821, Mexico also had a military garrison there.
After the American occupation of New Mexico, Albuquerque had a federal garrison and quartermaster depot, the Post of Albuquerque, from 1846 to 1867.
When the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad arrived in 1880, it bypassed the Plaza, locating the passenger depot and railyards about 2 miles (3 km) east in what quickly became known as New Albuquerque or New Town.
New Mexico's dry climate brought many tuberculosis patients to the city in search of a cure during the early 20th century. The first travelers on Route 66 appeared in Albuquerque in 1926
The establishment of Kirtland Air Force Base in 1939, Sandia Base in the early 1940s, and Sandia National Laboratories in 1949, would make Albuquerque a key player of the Atomic Age.
As Albuquerque spread outward, the downtown area fell into a decline. Many historic buildings were razed in the 1960s and 1970s to make way for new plazas, high-rises, and parking lots as part of the city's urban renewal phase. As of 2010, only recently has downtown come to regain much of its urban character, mainly through the construction of many new loft apartment buildings and the renovation of historic structures such as the KiMo Theater, in the gentrification phase.
Albuquerque is also the home of the International Balloon Fiesta, the world's largest such gathering of hot-air balloons from around the globe. The event takes place during October.
Albuquerque is the setting for the television shows Breaking Bad, which significantly boosting tourism in the area. Better Call Saul, a spinoff of Breaking Bad, is also set and shot in Albuquerque.
