In today’s video I’m taking a look at the most beautiful towns in Colorado and the prettiest places to visit. The vast Rocky Mountains draw in visitors looking for a laidback vacation with amazing culture and attractions.
Enjoy a jam-packed day in one of the national parks or ski at one of the largest resorts in the country. Whatever you choose you won’t be disappointed as each of these towns offers stunning views and one-of-a-kind scenery.
Some of the towns on this list are lesser known and include some hidden gems. As a local, I go off the tourist path to find some unique and scenic towns to visit and with little tourist crowds.
From skiing and snowboarding in the winter to hiking, and camping in the summer, outdoor activities are a way of life in Colorado. The Centennial State is an ideal travel destination and one of the best places to visit for outdoor pursuits in every season.

10 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE SAN LUIS VALLEY
1. With magnificent 100-mile views, San Luis Valley is the largest alpine valley in the world.
2. The Great Sand Dunes National Park is one of Colorado’s four National Parks. It contains the tallest sand dunes in North America!
3. After the sun sets, the Great Sand Dunes National Park transforms into a majestic setting illuminated by the night's sky…as it was recognized as a Dark Sky Park in 2019.
4. Out of the 500 bird species native to Colorado, over 300 can be found in San Luis Valley.
5. The San Luis Valley is nationally known for its potato production.
6. Established in 1858, Fort Garland was once under the command of the legendary Kit Carson. It was abandoned in 1883, but now survives as the Fort Garland Museum.
7. Before written history, native American cultures hunted and gathered in the area 11,000 years ago. Spain claimed the area in the 1500s and established land grants to attract settlers. However, clashes with Comanches left the valley largely unsettled for many years.
8. Gold and silver discoveries near Summitville in 1870 fueled the mining rush to the San Luis Valley. In 1878, the town of Alamosa was founded.
9. In 1921, Adams State College was founded as a teaching college and is now a bachelor and master's degree-granting institution.
10. Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast, history buff, or wildlife aficionado, the San Luis Valley is such a great place to experience the great outdoors. You can wander through high alpine deserts and dunes, wetlands and lakes, mountains, and forest all within the same afternoon.

Searched for migrating sandhill cranes in Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge and Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge. Drove over the scenic La Veta Pass. Ate a picnic in Cole Park in Alamosa.

Zapata falls, Alamosa Colorado
Zapata Falls is a waterfall located in the San Luis Valley near the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and south of Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in Alamosa County, Colorado. The waterfall has a drop of about 30 feet . Access to this waterfall entails a mildly steep 0.5-mile hike. Viewing the falls requires fording the stream and climbing rocks.

W stopped here to take in the Colorado dunes, the tallest dunes in the United States, got our feet wet hiking in a mountain stream to Zapata Falls, and then discovering a beautiful church in San Luis with the Catholic Stations of the Cross represented in some beautiful statues.
