KYRGYZSTAN - Ak-Suu traverse hike Pt.1
In september 2021 we hiked 8 days on the Ak-Suu Traverse hike. This hike starts from Jyrgalan, a rural town close to Karakol, the hiking capital of Kyrgyzstan. The area offers many hiking trail and the Ak-Suu Traverse hike is the peak hiking experience in Kyrgyzstan's Ak-Suu region. During the hike you will cross high passes, camp at alpine lakes and see nomads with their herds.
It was a challenging yet beautiful trail. In this video I take you on the first 4 hiking days. You can start the Ak-Suu traverse hike straight from Jyrgalan but to save a day we got dropped of in the next valley and started hiking from Boz Ochuk.
Day 1: Boz Ochuk valley - Boz Ochuk Lake (13,5km-4,5h hiking) Day 2: Boz Ochuk Lake - Lake just before Ailanysh pass (9km-4h hiking) Day 3: Over Ailanysh pass decending to Ak-Suu valley (10km-3,5h hiking) Day 4: Ak-suu valley - Altyn Arashan (12km-4,5h hiking)
The first 2 nights we slept at 3.400m and at night the green landscape was transformed in a snow white one. A bit cold but very magical! In this video you will see me struggle with altitude sickness and gradually getting better again.

Two Weeks in Kyrgyzstan Mountains | Ak Suu Traverse Thruhike
In 2022 we decided to travel to Kyrgyzstan and hike one of its most demanding routes - Ak Suu Traverse. Heavy backpacks, fever, river crossings and high altitude were challenging but the views and memories in exchange are more than rewarding.
This video maps our two-weeks journey with sweet end in the waters of Isyk-Kul. Since there is not many information or footage especially from the first part of the trail available, hope this helps someone to get motivated or provides good image what to expect.
Endless valleys with no people just the gusting wind and scenic panoramas of Tian Shan mountains became really addicting.

Hiking 100km Across the Heights of Alay Mountains in Kyrgyzstan
In this cinematic trekking video, we hike the Heights of Alay Mountains in Kyrgyzstan, which is considered by many as the best hiking in Kyrgyzstan, as well as a few other small hikes including Travelers Pass at Lenin Peak on the Tajikistan Border. The entire adventure took place in September of 2023 and took us 14 days with 6 days of travel (we had flight problems).

This video tells the story of the 7-day trip we took through northeast Kyrgyzstan.
When I told my friends that I had planned a trip to Kyrgyzstan, the most common answer was Kyrgyz what? And I repeated Kyrgyzstan!
Our travel plan was based on the experience of our dear guide and friend, Aman from the company Kyrgyz Riders, who I strongly advise if you want to travel to this country.
Located in Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan is bordered by Kazakhstan to the northwest and north, by China to the east and south, and by Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to the south and west. Most of Kyrgyzstan's borders run along mountain crests. Formerly a constituent republic of the U.S.S.R., Kyrgyzstan declared its independence on August 31, 1991. The capital is Bishkek.
Kyrgyzstan is an amazing, uncommon travel destination. With an incredible display of rivers, waterfalls, and nearly 2,000 lakes, its beautiful mountainous landscape has provided the setting for over 2,000 years of history. We spent 10 days in Kyrgyzstan and explored many of its most famous places.
So our travel plan was to explore the following places in 7 days: Jalgyz-Karagay pass, Song-Kol lake, Tash-Rabat, Chatyr-Kol Lake, Kel-Suu lake, KochKor Village, Eagle Hunting Experience, The Skazka Canyon, Jetty-Oguz red mountains, Karakol village, and Grigorievka gorge.
