We also stopped at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe to see the relic of Guadalupe. You can do these experiences by yourself but to get the most out of your trip book a local tour guide. Pachuca, Huasca de Ocampo, and the Basaltic Prisms - Easy day trip from Mexico City!

Pachuca, Huasca de Ocampo, and the Basaltic Prisms (Los Prismas Basalticos) are three more places you should see in Mexico! Even better, the three of them are very close and could easily be done on a day trip (or overnight like I did) from Mexico City.

Pachuca is the capital of Hidalgo State. The city is known as 'La Bella Airosa' which literally translates to 'The Beautiful Airy City' as it is SO windy in Pachuca! While there are many cool things to see in Pachuca such as the Monumental Clock Tower which has the same internal mechanisms as Big Ben in London, the giant mural neighborhood of Palmitas which is considered one of the biggest murals in the world (over 200 houses participated in the mural), and the Cristo Rey statue which overlooks the city, my favorite thing in Pachuca is the mosaic at Parque Gurion! It's easy to get to Parque Gurion on the metrobus or by taxi. In the middle of the park is a huge mosaic which was made using over 7,000,000 tiles!

From Pachuca it is very easy to get to Huasca de Ocampo - the first Pueblo Magico in Mexico! Huasca de Ocampo is an adorable little town less than an hour from Pachuca. You can take a combi (shared bus/van thing) from Pachuca to Huasca de Ocampo for 21 pesos ( ~$1 usd) and it takes 50 minutes.

From Huasca de Ocampo it is so easy to get to the Basaltic Prisms! The Basaltic Prisms had been on my Mexico bucket list for a while and they did not disappoint!! They are about a 10 minute taxi ride from Huasca de Ocampo. It's 100 pesos ($5 usd) to enter the prisms. The prisms are tall hexagonal shaped columns that were formed by lava coming into contact with water and cooling very slowly. At the Basaltic Prisms you can see hundreds of columns and multiple waterfalls. There is a hanging bridge across the canyon and you can also zipline over it.

Hidalgo, Mexico

Located in central Mexico, Hidalgo has a temperate climate, many natural areas, and towns with an impressive cultural heritage. In this state, you can visit Real del Monte, an old mining town that has picturesque houses and buildings with red tile roofs, which is why it is part of the Tourism Secretariat's Magical Towns of Mexico program. Here you can visit some old mines like the Mina de Acosta, where they are still extracting small quantities of precious metals. In the surrounding areas, you'll find the town of Huasca de Ocampo, which is near former mining haciendas San Miguel and Santa Maria Regla. These haciendas have been converted into luxurious hotels. During your stay there you can visit the Prismas Basalticos, the Capilla de la Virgen Negra, the San Antonio Dam and El Chico Natural Park, which has recreational areas where you can go camping and rock climbing.

In the city of Pachuca, the state capital, you can check out Baroque and neoclassic buildings, such as the Capilla de Nuestra Señora de la Luz and the Ex-Convent of San Francisco, which currently houses one of Latin America's most important photo collections. Many of the shots are images of the Mexican Revolution.

In western Hidalgo, known for its excellent cuisine, you can try the region's famous pastes (English-style turnovers) and baked barbacoa (a popular mutton dish). There you can also visit the Tula archaeological site, one of ancient Mexico's most important ceremonial centers. At the ruins you'll see figures called atlantes, 4-meter (15-foot) sculptures which are considered important symbols of the state of Hidalgo.

Traveling to a RANDOM State in Mexico (you won’t believe what we saw!)

We absolutely love traveling Mexico- so much so that there are only 8 states in Mexico that we have not visited. Today we are going to let our friends choose which of the 8 states we should visit next!

Thank you to our Patrons for making this video possible!

Welcome to the beautiful state of Hidalgo!
We FINALLY made it to the Grutas de Tolantongo! After more than three years of exploring Mexico, we finally made it to this magical place! You must try pastes, the typical food of miners. There are tons of pastes places everywhere throughout Hidalgo. There is a big chain called Pasteko that sells a delicious one of potatoes and meat. Also...cajeta and pecans..Need we say more?!

If you are staying in Pachuca, see if you can catch a soccer game! There is a local team there and the stadium is near town! Tickets are only $50 pesos ($2.70 USD) and we had so much fun cheering on the home team!

Finally, if you're looking for a little day trip, head to Real del Monte for the day! This is an old mining town where Cornish people were sent for their mining talents in the 1800s. The town is windy, charming, and quiet. Here, you can taste enchiladas mineras which are...so so yummy! Taxi fare from Pachuca to Real del Monte is $200 pesos $10.80 USD) and takes about 30 minutes.

Weekend trip to Real del Monte & Pachuca

Real del Monte, or officially Mineral de Monte, is a small mining town with big history. It has produced 6% off all world's silver in the last 500 years!

We had a chance to visit the place over the weekend by taking a bus from Mexico City.

Thanks to the Cornish miners who restarted the mining in the 19th century, the colorful town still holds many features of Cornish influence, like the local paste, architecture and multiple descendants of the miners.

For anyone living close to Pachuca, Real de Monte is a great place to spend the weekend and enjoy the local, unique culture.

PACHUCA Mexico's Hidden Gem In Hidalgo (English Pasties) 🇲🇽

Pachuca, State Of Hidalgo, México 🇲🇽

Pachuca sits only an hour and a half away from Mexico City CDMX yet recieves pretty much no international tourists, in our time there I can't recall seeing one which made for a great authentic time.

The city is beautiful and very cheap! Full of English history from back in the mining days, which means lots of cornish Pasties shops all over the place.

One of the best places we visited in Mexico no colonial polished rubbish just a real mining mountain city with good people! 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽

A while ago, I asked on a live stream for destination suggestions. As always, I like to go to lesser known/visited locations in any country and you all suggested Hidalgo, or more specifically, the state capital, Pachuca, and Real del Monte, a small mining town with a history with English miners from Cornwall.

You did not disappoint. We fall in love with some destinations, and this is one of them! In this video (which is the first of THREE videos from Hidalgo) we explore a multitude of locations in Pachuca for my THREE YEAR TRAVEL ANNIVERSARY!!

We check out the Centro area, Plaza Juarez, Avenida Revolucion, the brightly coloured Las Palmitas, Centro at night with some awesome music, eat some pastes (more on that in the Real del Monte video and climb to the Cristo Rey!!

Overall, Pachuca is diverse and does have similarities to other cities in the world. But remember, this is Mexico!
