Three Towns in the Southern Czech Republic - Telč, Brno, and Ústí nad Orlicí by bus and train
Nearing the end of our two month trip we visited the towns of Telč, Brno, and Ústí nad Orlicí in the southern part of the Czech Republic.
In Telč we stayed at Hotel Telč and ate at Ristorante Hotel U Hrabenky. From Telč we took a bus to the Moravian town of Brno. It rained the whole time we were there and we walked all around the castle. We stayed at Bercelo Brno Palace Hotel and ate at Retro Consistorium.
We took a train from Brno to Ústí nad Orlicí. We stayed at Hotel Na Zámečku. We couldn't figure out how to get a cab to our hotel so we walked. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant.

České dráhy (ČD) or Czech Railways is the main railway operator in the Czech Republic. In 2010 its consolidated revenues reached CZK 41.0 billion (€1.6bn, $2.1bn). Revenues from passenger transport amounted to CZK 18.7 billion (65% transfer payments from the government, 25% intra-state transport, 10% international transport), revenues from freight transport operated by subsidiary ČD Cargo amounted to CZK 11.8 billion, revenues from traffic control invoiced to state-owned railway infrastructure operator SŽDC amounted to CZK 5.2 billion. With thirty-eight thousand employees ČD Group is the largest Czech company by the number of employees.
The company was established in 1993, after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia as a successor of the Czechoslovak State Railways. It is a member of the International Railway Union (UIC Country Code for Czech Republic is 54), Community of European Railways and the Organization for Railways Cooperation (Asia and Europe).
Until 1 July 2008, České dráhy was the biggest employer in the Czech Republic. After experiencing regular losses and requiring government subsidies, the railway reported its first ever profit in 2007 although it receives government subsidies. Attempts to make it more efficient are currently ongoing and a recent plan to move passenger transport to an independent subsidiary was approved by the Czech government in January 2008.
ČD operates trains; fixed infrastructure (such as tracks) is managed by SŽDC. In December 2010, the Czech government proposed bringing SŽDC and ČD together in a single holding company. The government has also changed the subsidies available to ČD and SŽDC.
ČD Cargo, the cargo subsidiary, mainly transports raw materials, intermediate goods and containers. As of 2009, it is ranked in the top five largest railway cargo operators in Europe.

About the place:
The Adršpach-Teplice Rocks (Czech: Adršpašsko-teplické skály, German: Adersbach-Weckelsdorfer Felsenstadt) are an unusual set of sandstone formations covering 17 km2 in northeastern Bohemia, Czech Republic. They are named after two nearby municipalities: Adršpach, and Teplice nad Metují.
The site was apparently a regional destination during the 19th and early 20th century, as attested by the varied language of stone inscriptions on the site, and surviving postcards.
The rocks have been protected as a national nature reserve since 1933, and since 1991 the whole adjacent region of Broumovsko has enjoyed the status of protected landscape area. Tourists may visit the rocks via a number of marked trails. The area is a popular destination for rock climbers.
In recent years, it has become a focus for the high-risk climbing-related sport of rock jumping.
The area is also one of the largest permanent breeding sites of peregrine falcon in Europe, as they are protected here under federal law. Some areas have been designated off limits to climbers and hikers to make sure the birds aren't disturbed.

Walking in the Sky Walk - Moravia, Czech Republic
Embark on a mesmerizing journey as we stroll along the Sky Walk, an architectural gem nestled in the stunning landscapes of Moravia, Czech Republic. This breathtaking elevated walkway offers visitors an unparalleled view of the lush forests and rolling hills that define this enchanting region.
The Sky Walk is the unique structure offers a genuine walk among the clouds. Sky walk was designed by architect Zdeněk Fránek. The concept was conceived in 2012, but construction only commenced in April 2015. This structure is the only one of its kind in Central Europe.
Sky Walk is an observation walkway that rises to a height of 55 meters above the surrounding hilly landscape, offering breathtaking panoramas with visibility extending for several kilometers.
The entire structure, made of wood and steel, consists of several functional sections. A 111-meter path, featuring a spruce wood deck, leads to the beginning of the Sky Walk, which seems to ascend into the clouds. The walkway itself stretches approximately 750 meters, with an elevation gain of 38 meters. At the end of the path, there is a platform shaped like a drop, which juts out over the valley at a height of around 11 meters. Additionally, this drop design incorporates a net for relaxation, suspended directly above the open space below.
In the design of the entire facility, it was necessary to consider not only the installation requirements in the specific landscape but also the extreme loads that may occur in this area. For example, storm winds can reach speeds of up to 200 km/h. Additionally, the entire structure is also subject to severe icing. However, despite the complexity of the design and construction, this project was successfully completed in 9 months.
Technical Specifications:
- Elevation: 1,116 meters above sea level
- Height of the walkway: 55 meters
- Length of the wooden bridge: 710 meters
- Length of the slide: 100 meters - Materials: High-quality wood and steel, ensuring safety and durability
The Sky Walk is not just a pedestrian path; it’s an experience that invites you to connect with nature from a new perspective. As you walk, you’ll encounter several observation decks and resting spots, each designed to enhance your connection with the natural world.
The project emphasizes eco-tourism, promoting sustainable practices that protect the local flora and fauna.
The Sky walk is accessible year-round, providing a unique experience in every season—whether it’s vibrant autumn foliage or serene winter landscapes.
Join us as we explore this stunning structure and discover why the Sky Walk in Moravia is a must-visit destination for adventurers and nature lovers alike. Let’s take this unforgettable journey together!
