With the best views of the gigantic pitons, overnight stays in tree houses in the middle of the jungle and the most beautiful snow-white beaches, Saint Lucia is high on the list of the most beautiful islands in the world. We sleep in Soufrière, visit the Diamond Waterfalls, hike the Tet Paul Nature Trail and visit the beaches Anse Chastanet, Sugar Beach and Jalousie Plantation Beach. From the west, we drive our small jeep through the rainforest to the south and east, before relaxing at an all-inclusive resort in the north.
This year we travel all over the world and after the Canary Islands, Oman, Cape Verde and Martinique, Saint Lucia is our fifth destination. Rainier to Cannon Beach, we made a last minute decision to stop at Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument and this decision turned quickly turned into an EPIC Road Trip. Mt. St. Helens' beauty is breathtaking and the best part is, most of the beauty can be seen driving on Spirit Lake Hwy through a lush green forest.
As we drove through the mountain peaks and valleys to get to Mt. St. Helens, we could hardly believe that not too long ago this place was once desolate. The streams were crystal clear. The forest floor was abundant, colors were vibrant, and we could feel the energy in the atmosphere all around us.
The only way I know how to describe how we were feeling while staring at Mt. St. Helens Volcano, is that our minds were blown at the sheer beauty. We were also humbled by the peacefulness and sheer power that Mt. St. Helens was holding over us.
We highly recommend working at least a road trip in to your itinerary to see Mt. St. Helens. We will definitely be back to hike to the top of the volcano, so we can get more up close and personal with her.
Places you should see when you visit Charleston, South Carolina / St. Helena Island / Chapel of Ease
Charleston, South Carolina is rich with History. On our first day in town, we visited St. Helena island's chapel of ease, then we ran into Coffin point praise house. We had planned to visit Botany bay plantation but it was closed for deer hunting season. End of the day we ended up at Edisto Beach
Flying to St Helena Airport
This trip to the St. Helena Airport took place on 15 February 2020, before the major current travel restrictions. Here's a video with my thoughts on that situation:This video is about flying to the St. Helena Airport. St. Helena Airport is one of the most challenging airports in the world. Less than ten commercial airline pilots are certified to land here!
At either end of the runway are massive cliffs, which create challenging wind conditions.
I’ve wanted to visit St. Helena for a long time. When the St. Helena Airport received its first commercial flight in 2017, the trip became far more viable for me. Before St. Helena Airport opened, a trip there required a five day boat trip just to get there.
St. Helena’s role in the Age of Exploration cannot be understated. The Portuguese used St. Helena as a secret base for restocking their ships (they left a heard of goats and planted citrus trees. It then became a key possession of the British East India Company before it was suddenly converted into a prison for the world’s most feared man – Napoleon. He died there, too. Today, it’s a fascinating British Overseas Territory accessed thanks to the St. Helena Airport.
In this video, we’ll explore the flight’s route, the passenger experience, and even peak behind the scenes at the St. Helena Airport to understand how it all works.
